..... between playing Chelsea reserves/academy in the EFL Cup which 4k+ fans want to attend and playing Reading reserves/academy in the EFL trophy which people say they want to boycott?
Just asking. I have probably watched Rovers play at least 20 matches away at Reading; although, I have been to Stamford Bridge before, I have never watched BRFC play away at Chelsea, that's why I would not miss it for the world. I will also go to watch the boys at Reading in the EFL trophy. UTG Please don't do that Peter as we are playing them at the Mem......

I have to say, this is a bizarrely daft thread, considering the poster in question seems very intelligent in the norm.
As (many) others have pointed out, there is a difference between playing an official "B Team" and a weaker side from a top club. The implications of B Teams entering the FL would be beyond disastrous - that there is the difference

Doesn't interest me in the slightest I would rather watch a league game, will be a bit watered off if we don't sell 2800 tickets for Swindon and we take 4K to CFC for a meaningless game Got my Swindon ticket earlier and she said there's loads left Unfortunately this kind of game will attract many who won't come again for a very long time. Would be the same at any club. I imagine the only song we'll sing is GI as some won't know any others! How do you come to that conclusion ? seeing as most if not all who get tickets will be season ticket holders! As for Swindon! There are only so many times you can visits that place, with Rovers playing their or not!

I like these. What's the difference between a giraffe and an elephant? difference between a back bum and a front bum?

There was one guy on the FB page saying how he hadn't been for decades yet was interested in this match. Also when we've played games like Newport away with low allocation you normally recognise many faces but now and again there's loads of groups you don't recognise. They must get priority vouchers off of someone. Lastly, we were in the supposed singing section at Wembley and we did try and start different songs but none of them caught on except GI.

Someone on the FB has said. Know its a bit cheeky but does anyone have 6 vouchers. Not saying they arent regular fans or anything but some people arr desperate to get to this game. I will wait to the 3rs round of the FA Cup when.we get them again and those that went this time csn step aside. lOl Seriously though if we do get a new ground and mske it up the leagues it will be interesting how many ST holders ee ha e and the scramble for tickets as the big clubs. Of course if we have an electronic system and points based or whatever, there wont br voucher swaps

The whole point was to ask where individual Gasheads drew the line about the "politics" of games.
Not everyone will hold to the view of some on here. MK Dons is a classic example. At the beginning, many Gasheads refused to go to the ground in Milton Keynes, but how many will still stick to that principle this season?
Yes, I agree that allowing B teams into any type of competition is the beginning of a slippery slope. Do I believe that will never happen in the future. Of course not, the money currently generated by football is so great that it will become more and more a deciding factor on how football will go in the future.
As I said earlier, it will be interesting to see the attendance against Reading. I will not be there but if any Gashead wants to go, I will not decry their decision.

I think this is a great question, and the amount of responses would seem to back that up.
Also reading through them all, it would appear we don't mind playing a 'B' team as long as the competition is really for the 1st team.
I personally hope the lower league fans send a massive message to the organisers that this is farcical.

In any case, the last first match of the EFL cup team (3rd round last year) Chelsea put out was this: Begovic, Ivanovic, Terry, Cahill, Baba, Mikel, Loftus-Cheek, Ramires, Kenedy, Remy, Falcao

What I meant is that if they choose to field a 2nd string it appears we would find that acceptable because it is a choice - and that is where the line the OP was looking for is drawn.

The difference however is that the same team won't be playing us in L1/L2 etc whilst Chelsea's real starting 11 compete for the PL.

I won't be too bothered if we do get hammered mind. I'm just looking forward to going to a ground I've never been to and help create a special atmosphere in the true Rovers way. UTG !

How much do we think Taylor will be worth if he plays well and scores in this game?? Hmm He is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for him. obviously... So how much do we think someone would be prepared to pay for him if he plays well & scores in that game? UTG

I thought the whole original point of the EFL Trophy (Johnsons Paint etc) was a give a chance for the smaller clubs/players and fans to go to Wembley. I guess it would be possible for the final to be played between two academy sides would it? If so doesn't this destroy the original idea, an idea which worked with tremendous success going by the attendances in the finals. Would the fans of the top sides be bothered about going to Wembley to watch their academy sides when they have had many opportunities to watch their first team there. In that case the attendance could be lower than a final played between two lower football league teams. The academy players too will have a greater chance of playing at Wembley in the future than the players from the lower leagues.
