Favourite pre-match topic for discussion seems to be around how many changes and what formation we're going to see.
If we didn't take into account the opposition, didn't operate some form of rotation system, didn't 'rest' players; but just put out our best players in their best positions with both defence and attack taken care of and let the opposition worry about us what would be our best side; and which formation?
I'd go for......
4-4-2
Mildenhall
J.Clarke Lockyer Hartley Brown
Bodin Lines O.Clarke Montano
Taylor Easter
Subs: Puddy Leadbitter McChrystal James Gaffney Harrison Broom

In our current squad, Swap Mansell for O. Clarke and Gaffney for Easter. We haven't seen Moore yet so difficult to decide Montano over him. and yes keep 4 4 2.
Still would like some new players though to replace Mildenhall and Mansell (age against them now), not sure about Hartley, ( needs more games obviously ) but think we might need a more commanding CB.

Have we seen Hartley start in a back 4 rather than 5? Likewise we've not seen Leadbitter play behind Bodin where he was most impressive last season? At home I'd go
Mildenhall
Leads Lockyer McChystal Brown
Bodin Lines Sincs Montano
Taylor Harrison
Away from home:
Mildenhall
Leads J Clarke Lockyer Hartley Brown
Lines Sincs O Clark
Taylor Gaffney
But Easter could well be pushing to start in the hole over OC tomorrow

I would like to see 4-3-1-2 played at times. Gaffney and Taylor with Easter behind ...midfield of mansell ,lines ,Clarke/Sinclair . Easter could be replaced by Lawrence at some point if required. Not a full time set up just an occasional one to keep things changing.

Quite tricky, this. We criticise DC for not knowing his best team or system. Well, neither do I, but I like the look of this team:
Mildenhall
Leadbitter J.Clarke Lockyer Hartley Brown
O.Clarke Mansell Lines
Taylor Harrison
Subs: Puddy, McChrystal, Sinclair, Montaño, Bodin, Easter, Gaffney

2nd, you sound like Stevek. DC does not have a "best team or system". Nor 2 best strikers.

I think it's great that we have so many options - we all come up with different teams on this thread, and I don't think any of them are bad. We have the players to play in their natural roles in different systems, which is great.

maybe the answer is a 4-4-1-1 system with easter being the link player between midfield and striker trouble is who to play there as a different option to easter?

I'd definitely go with the Mansell replacing Ollie change. OC has done well early doors but Manse was excellent at snuffing out danger, turning poor quality ball into usable fare for Lines and generally tidying up the breakdowns last season. I think I'd stick with Easter over Gaffers given his mercurial touches of class so far this season and I think that if I go with those two in the starting XI then I'd have to have Leads in ahead of JC just to have some legs to get the ball from one end of the pitch to the other without hoofing it or resorting to diagonal long balls from Lines. Given I've seen Macca for several seasons and Hartley for five minutes I'd have him in my flat back four. Definitely need three subs when some of those old stagers start to blow though! so 4-4-2 Mildy Leads Locks Macca Browner Billy Bob Manse Linesy Monty Jamma Mattee subs OC for Manse Gaffers for Jamma JC for Macca.
