Seen a few comments about Saturdays attendance so thought I'd add a thread with the title that may explain a lot. There are a lot of floating supporters who also like other sports. I am first and foremost a gashead but the opportunity to see some of the worlds best cyclists hammering it round Bristol was an opportunity not to be missed. A day like that doesn't happen often. Weather forecast for afternoon was also decent. That will be the only home game this season that I intend to miss. I suspect I wasn't the only one to do this. We still had a very good attendance if you compare other same tier games Just for the record though I did watch from the right side of the river

Yeah, probably the best day for the sport of cycling the city's ever had. I wouldn't blame anyone for going to see it.

I was planning on ditching Rovers to watch it, but my son wasn't having any of it, and wanted to watch the football instead.

Local football leagues have also started so that will have a big impact on attendances.

Me and Mrs Z did the Tour time trial in the AM and then up to the Mem for the game. However i was rather tempted to stay on and watch the circuit race in the afternoon so I don't blame anyone that did. lets be honest Rochdale isn't the biggest draw we will have this season so if you were going to miss one this was a good choice. After the game i was thinking I have made the wrong decision, the cycling would of been more entertaining and less frustrating. Hope for better tomorrow night UTG!

Guys, you can use whatever excuse you can regarding the attendance on Saturday. But the fact remains is that our attendance of 8,000 was one of the biggest in the division. Hopefully, another 8,000 crowd on Tuesday.

In reply to hat load of old pony, I wonder what that Oxford fan thinks the respective crowds would have been if we were playing Swindon and they were at home to Rochdale.
What a plank!

Our average this season is 9100, theirs is 8500. Not sure what that means but dare I hazard a guess that it means he's a t*sser?

Oxford should get a better average than BRFC this season due to the location of other clubs relative to themselves. Oxford have potential for decent away followings from Swindon, rovers, northampton,mk dons, walsall, coventry even peterborough. Even Millwall, wimbledon and Southend and gillingham might see Oxford as a closer game they may attend. Having potential to house a larger number of away fans Oxford have an advantage.
8000 was a good crowd....we have just got used to those 9,10 and 11,000 crowds .
Still on target to have the highest average since 1976 .....which again shows the club is moving in the right direction.

considering half our ground is out in the open and it wasnt looking to great outside i am not too surprised. if we consistently get 8000+ think we doing alright. if weather is good/ we are doing well then expect 9500+

I wonder how many they would get ,if they were the waterants of Oxford . While Oxford City ,backed by a tax paying zillionaire were riding high in the Championship a heart beat away from World domination. P T I D

Also factor there are still 'summer events' going on - I have a season ticket, but attended an event up North. Ill be back at the mem this evening. Most of us don't just support Rovers we have other stuff going on, so making every game just isnt possible.
