Santa's grotto is another matter completely. The freshers fair stand - if we're on a par with the James Dyson International School of Design stand at Imperial then that's good enough for me. Knickers twisted over nowt. Fair enough, others are sub-standard so that's ok for us then? I tell you what if I did something similar to that whiteboard in the foyer of my workplace, I would get (laughed at, then) bollocked . Might seem like a mountain out of a molehill and it may have served a purpose, but if a job is worth doing... Well its not substandard if it's as good as everyone else is it, that just makes it ... errr ... standard. Otherwise you're creating needless expense. Do you get very bollocked in your workplace for spending more money than you need to and indiscriminately increasing business overheads?

Why is this any different to Santas Grotta?, both poorly set up and signed off by the club and put into the public domain for us to get laughed at. If this is the first impression of us to students who might not know anything about us then god help us. I'm talking about a whiteboard that looks like it has been created by a blind 4 year old, its hardly breaking the bank to make things a bit more professional is it?

Don't you honestly think that whiteboard was signed off by the club? Imo someone offered to do it for the club and they gave them some merchandise etc to assist with it. I detest the ragbag stuff but I think far too big a deal is being made of this.

Maybe I will, it would be a damn sight better than this offering. I have seen better setups at the Mem car boot sale on a Sunday.

If someone from the club wants me to do it they know where I am and I know they do read this. In any case its not the point, if you volunteer to do something at least make it worthy of Bristol Rovers FC.

Sadly its the same old soddin apatheism from us. "It's ok what did you expect, everyone else's stall was sh** too, at least they tried, blah, blah bleedin blah"
Its this bloody attitude that has blighted us for decades. No, it's not soddin good enough, we want to move forward not bleedin sideways, and no we shouldn't aspire to be about the same rubbish standard as others. We should WANT to be better!
Let's hope Wael & Co. want to kick our club forward and let's aim to be the best we possibly can be.
UTG, enjoy your afternoon. LS

I get the distinct impression that the vast majority who are up in arms about this absolute non-issue have never actually been to a Fresher's Fair. It's not a trade show, it's literally an opportunity for students to get some free sh*t. Look at the size of the pitches for goodness sake, they're tiny. Any excuse to bash the club though eh? Just because we haven't become a shining beacon of corporate sterility overnight.

Not a cop out at all, in fact i've contacted the club many times in the past about a variety of things over the years and never had one response. ..and im sure you have been told before its not the size its what you do with it that matters?

LS But it's not that everyone else's stall was sh** too - more that ours was fit for purpose just as the others were. Like I said, shrewd business isn't just chucking as much money as you can at absolutely everything. You understand margins surely?

I love my club and hate to knock it, but.... That is totally embarrassing and in my opinion 'not fit for purpose' FFS, the whole point of us moving to UWE, being more professional etc is to move on from our 'Rag Bag Rovers' tag. We have pop up banners etc in the Dribuild Suite we could have taken and surely someone could have planned this a bit better. This is our first point of contact to thousands of students and is how our club will be perceived. Sorry but this is up there with Santas Grotto 🙁 Summed up my thoughts exactly. Pathetic amateur attempt.

I will tell you what is embarrassing is the constant fault finding nick picking people on here.
As has been pointed out this was a freshers fair, just a huge amount of stands with freebies/leaflets.....nothing more and idiots on here are moaning....what on earth did you expect..........a glitzy presentation with corporate boards etc, that not one student would have been the slightest bit interested in?
What I see is an informative, stand out stall, totally fit for purpose..........but no lets waste money and time on something totally unnecessary and certainly not required, but I guess it is another opportunity for the righteous mob on here to find fault....perhaps you can organise a boycott of future Freshers fairs in protest.

Mmmm fresh student meat. Why was I not told this was happening? Exactly. I don't think there would have been a shortage of volunteers if they had advertised it. I go weak at the knees just seeing the word 'Freshers'!

Sorry but I can't believe fuss being made about this, good for the club to have a go. As my son attended the event I took the opportunity to quiz him and more than a dozen of his friends all of whom said that the Rovers stand was excellent and there were several of the young pro's Broom, Malpas and one other who were excellent, they were talking to all the students, playing games and encouraging everybody to attend games. Apparently they were a hit and represented the club very well. To put some context to that the other stands were giving free Rizla papers, Desperado's and other similar gifts. In summary, the stand was not brilliant but fit for purpose and the lads did us proud.

Basically the stand was adequate for the purpose if not 'professional' for the Professional outfit Rovers are. I think people didn't expect a throw back to the Higgs era.
