Stupid thread about DC. He has earnt respect and time to sort the problem out. But he does need to sort this goalkeeper position out as soon as possible. With the new loan rules this season his hands are tied at the moment but whatever happens he must address the problem. IMO most of the keepers mentioned, Nigel Martin obviously but also Parkin, Shepherd, Laurie Taylor, others and my favourite Jim Eadie would not be letting in some of these goals. This problem has been a running theme for too long since our Conference season. I love what you've done DC but sort this position out! UTG!

I'm no happy clapper rather I call it as it is,and it's not an attack on the opening poster but to even suggest a change in management is insane!
( OUR GREASTEST MANAGER EVER FACT ) Is having his first major blip and people want to get rid of the best thing (along with wael) to happen to our club in maybe 50 years!
It's a blip...Ok it's pretty clear that mistakes were made in the summer, but DC had to stay true to his promise by giving our hero's from the last two seasons a chance to play at this level. We need a few changes sure, but to suggest that we should get rid of one of the brightest young managers in the game that has committed and proven himself to our club is nuts!

my friend I go back as far as 1965 and by far the best keeper we ever had was dick sheaperd until the tranmere forward kicked him in the head , Shep was a reasonable keeper. Nowhere near as good as Martin Thomas, who in my 52 years of Gas watching, is comfortably the best we have had. You are both right, Dick S and Martin T were very good keepers. I was there at the Tranmere match when Eddie Loyden hurt DS. To be fair it was an accident and treated as such. DS never really recovered and I was there at the Christmas/ New Year 1984/85 when DS made his comeback in the home match with south of the river. I won't mention the score! But you could see Dick's confidence had gone completely and he never played for us again. (I think that's correct but haven't checked up and just going on memory!). But my point would be that those keepers plus many others, most others actually, up to about 2007 were very good keepers and better than what we have now. it's just in last few years that the position has become a problem one. ps I also consider Steve Mildenhall 2012-2014 a top keeper. UTG!

Putting something in capitals doesn't make it a fact it still remains only an opinion. My opinion is that Gerry Francis remains the greatest manager (based partly on not seeing any of the managers prior to the early 80s) if DC takes us to the next level I'll change that view. Ridiculous use of capital letters won't change that.

DC took us from a team nose diving to non league oblivion and gained two promotions, GF took us from facing oblivion in Bath to one promotion it's hard to argue that GF was the better of the two managers, when you look at how long teams like Lincoln. Wrexham, Grimsby & Tranmere have been in the Conference our turn around is even more remarkable. Although like GF on his return past achievements count for nothing when a manager struggles to turn things around.

cheers nobby its a shame some of the people on this site have to throw sh** at others for voicing an opinion when they don't know the history of the club
is there the same amount of sh** flying on the thread about how the owner as undermined the manager that is a lot more controversial than this one
If you were offended by my joke I do apologise. I don't agree with your post but I don't wish you any ill. ok no worries big man to say sorry so I will also say sorry for any offence to you

Blaming DC is a absolute joke, players don't turn sh**e overnight they need to take a look at their selves If I was DC Saturday I would've walked on the pitch and dragged Taylor off by his hair, the last month he has made little effort and when he loses the ball that's it,doesn't try to win it back If a ball isn't passed to his feet he won't make a effort,I'm not bothered if he goes I would rather have someone up top with a bit of pace to stretch the defence with through balls or a ball over the top Like I said before if teams were interested before in matty I bet they're thinking again after the last month

Gerry was amazing first time around for us,but DC and what he did for us a few seasons ago saved our club.We could be Wrexham,Torquay even york or worst still Stockport maybe Darlington. If DC is not our greatest ever manager after winning two back to back promtions under the pressure he was under for the first I will never know. Also using lower cased letters does not mean it's not fact either!

if you look at the highlights on tele they blame lockyer for the mistake and puddy was trying to make up for his mistake, although puddy put it back into play it was one of those things if a forward misses a wide open goal from 2 ft then scores a blinder later on do you ridicule him all game excellent reasoning

Of course it was. I meant the 74/75 season! Doh... after Shepherds injury in Nov/Dec 72 we also messed about with goalies then until JIm E came in during Feb 73 and went about 5/6 games without conceding, a good preparation for the following promotion season. Thanks allgasandgaitors

Oh the benefit of hindsight! Never make a bad call or put a foot wrong then would we?
DC has proven himself to be a fantastic manager for this football club already, we have one bad spell 2 years on from when we were playing the likes of Alfreton, Braintree and Gateshead and there are calls for his head. Unbelievable and totally disrespectful. What has DC done to prove he's not up to taking us forward? Well, he's given the boys who worked so hard for him to get two back to back promotions a chance to play at this level. It turns out some of them cant quite provide what we are going to need, but it was still the right thing to give them a chance.
In January (in case this has passed anyone by - THE FIRST OPPORTUNITY) DC can do something about changing those people who despite working so hard for him and us, he now knows are not up to it. The FIRST OPPORTUNITY!! Yet there are some calling for his head before he gets that first opportunity! If we were bottom of the table you might, just might get the logic that maybe the manager isn't up to it, but mid table? Mid table with a reasonable chance of the playoffs if we just recaptured early season form. Its mental, completely loop the Dam loop full on mental!
In any case if the OP thinks a manager sacked by a play off chasing Championship club for no reason other than he's not famous enough is going to plump for a club one whole division down playing in a ramshackle 12,000 capacity stadium as his first choice he's deluded!

i think dc has struggled with the larger squad and the clubs recruitment, hes only worked with small squads at lower levels before so this has been a steep learning curve for him and most of the players. i hope he simples things up and sticks with a formation and a more settled team. i think his job would only be threatened if we find ourselves in the bottom 4. gary rowett will get a job at a bigger club than ours in my view probably in the championship.

Appreciate your well thought out post, and you may well be right about DC. However, we are on a bad run and are not at a "sack the manager" stage yet. If DC is backed by the board in January but he fails to bring the right quality and we get relegated, then yes - we may then be at that stage. At the moment though the manager and the players need our full support to stop the rot. As a side note, I do wonder if the recent bereavement is affecting DC's judgement. I lost my father at about his age and it changed me. I didn't realise for about a year or so but I couldn't see situations clearly, and my self-assurance had disappeared. I hope he's not going through a similar thing. be worried of anybody was even thinking sack the manager, we were relegated to the conference and has brought us to mid table. Players have slumped, watching you can see they aren't consistent or maybe God. enough for top 6 league team we aspire to be asap to challenge for Championship. I applaud every single one of the players, but now is time to accept some players need to be replaced and we can't be sentimental. Let's get behind DC and through January hopefully with some quality recruitment we will start to find our feet again.

Once upon a time there was a family of peasants. The whole family were lame or old and were supported by the one healthy man in the household, Duane.
A terrible famine hit the land and Duane gave the last of the food to his family and walked into the forest to die.
He luckily just survived and crawled back to find his once sick family in good health. There had been a miracle, fertile soil, crops aplenty. Health radiated from their faces.
The days passed and Duane grew sick and ill. He turned to his family for support, and to his horror they refused. Why, after all I did for you, do you turn your back now?
Times are better, were looking for a new Duane in the transfer market, they replied.

Yes, it's as mad as suggesting Martin Allen would quit Barnet to manage a Conference side again!!
Edit
I see Rowlett has now come out and said he'd consider managing a Div 1 side to get straight back into management!

That Puddy save you talk about was routine. He is an awful goalkeeper, wasn't even good enough for the conference. Rubbish it was an outstanding reaction save, if had gone in nobody would have said Puddy should have done better (well apart from the usual posters) regardless the mistake didn't change the match which was lost after Hartley & Gaffers missed their chances in the first 5 mins, after that Shrewsbury could have scored 5. What DC is planning to do in January will be the big decider if he's given a list of quality players to SH/Wael he wants to sign then talking of sacking him is ridiculous, but if he's given them a list of Hartley/James type players then if I was Wael I would be on the phone to Rowlett's agent! Although that depends on how much DC will have to spend, is all is talk of a low budget an attempt to get more money out of Wael? Can't possibly see how you can believe it to be a good save. When judging saves I like to imagine what it would have looked like if he had failed to save it. If that shot had gone in he would have had to literally dive out of the way of it.

I assumed we were talking about the one where he got his arm to it with a pure reaction save, not a routine diving save, everybody around me agreed it was a decent save, even those previously calling him a "useless w....." (not sure what shouting that does for a goalies confidence!)
