Right someone's got to say it (and let's face it it's usually me )... The truth is I believe that it is a macho thing. I think deep down these people would admit that DC has done a fantastic job but they look for ways to criticise him to make themselves seem superior. It is often the same people that do this. Also the quicker they say this, the quicker they can turn around and say "I told you so" if things do get worse. It is for this reason I will be quick to drag up posts as soon as he gets us back onto winning ways. Not all these people are for this reason, I believe the other reason is that some fans are looking at games on a game by game basis without looking at the big picture. DC is always looking at the big picture IMO which you need to do as a manager. Yes he sometimes gets it wrong but I think he has just about made up for that with the amount of times he gets it right F**k the haters DC Spread the positivity I totally understand the moans from away games. Whilst fans understand the bigger picture deep down ,they still are paying for a two hour entertainment slot and are travelling a distance to see it. So when the performance is poor fans feel aggrieved ,if the team sheet isn't as they expected they feel deflated [like going up to London to watch a west end play to find the star actors have been replaced by local people] There are people who take a disliking to a person from the outset ,whether that be a manager, player, director or back room staff. When things are going well that dislike is covered over and they sing semi false praises,as in ,they may congratulate the team or club or squad but not that individual. At the base of it though they are waiting for that person to make one error so they can jump on it and thus prove their initial gut feeling was correct. This is human nature. The same occurs in the reverse people take a liking to someone and they will overlook all their flaws and mistakes and it takes major errors for them to reluctantly say the person messed up. This is human nature. DC's major flaw is he isn't afraid to do things. Most managers would be too scared to make changes incase it turned fans against them for dropping favourites or the result might endanger their job. The recent scenario is a good example of this. The majority of managers would have played the same team in both games hoping they would win the first game and maybe get something from the second .They would be fully aware they had a big chance of losing key players to injury be that short or long term. This would be ok though because that could be passed off as bad luck and they could go beg to the chairman for a loan player. The injuries could then be blamed for the defeat or subsequent poor form. DC looks at the bigger picture at the squad across the season and how the squad can perform to its best over that time. He also prefers a home win and an away defeat to two draws. Im not sure whether the team selections were the best option over the two games I think I would have gone lines/Mansell in a 442 at home and then Sinclair/o Clarke/ Lawrence in a 451 at Charlton. Defensively there isn't enough players to do a rotation J Clarke at full back one game and MM at centreback for the other the only changes available [?]
I think in general our squad has not got enough quality in depth to rotate hence why we got thrashed at Charlton but that is not to say the players that played 48 hours before would have performed a lot better given the short rest and how many of them were taught a lesson in the home fixture vs Charlton.

The whole of the Gas social media is full of criticism of both the Owner and the Manager, so in essence the Op is right about one thing. It is easy to be negative behind a keyboard and spout off about what is right and wrong within the set up.
To sum up the holiday period in terms of games played and results, how many would have settled for six points out of a possible nine going into those games? Coventry was a home banker, Wimbledon should have been tougher and Charlton away was always going to be tough. He obviously decided that the six points allowed him to experiment in the last one, it didn't come off so lets park that one and look forwards to nobbling the cobblers tomorrow.
We are all entitled to an opinion but lets not try to ram it down anybodys throat.
Up the GAS

Resting half the squad on Monday also gives us, you would hope, a better chance of getting something out of tomorrow's game, 3 wins out of 4 games would be an impressive return, we've already lost Hartley for tomorrow, possibly Leads, if we also lost Lines or Taylor as well we'd really be struggling. There's also the fact DC might have wanted to see Manse & Lawrence in action/give them game time given he was losing Boateng & Colkett this month.

People are entitled to an opinion and so is the OP. As I have said many times reporting on every game is exactly that and the Manager is as answerable to a performance as the players are. When selection is erratic to say the least probably more. I have also said that I do not expect us to achieve promotion and in all honesty I don't think it would be a good thing for the club however it does not mean that game by game we cannot expect good performances by both the Manager and players. Remember we pay their wages and we pay a lot of money to watch. I have supported Rovers for over 50 years and DC definitely is in the top 5 of the Managers during that time but we all know that if results tailor off now it won't be long before the 10,000 home gates become 8,000 and then the 8,000 for the bigger games becomes 6-7,000 for the games against the lesser teams. This will happen if we just settle for a midtable finish and that will be both sad and disappointing because it has taken a lot of work by Board, Manager and players to get the crowds back but will take little to lose that support. That is football and generally a Manager is as good as his last game. DC's success has given him the time which many clubs do not give; and rightly so; with the poor December which included a home defeat to a Barrow team from the National League.
Let's be honest the last 4 or 5 away games have come nowhere near a satisfactory standard so people are entitled to their opinion but I can honestly say that I have heard very few who say the Manager should be sacked.
As a regular reporter mainly for supporters who cannot attend I would not be doing any good by praising all the time. DC's selections at times are bewildering but I am sure if you look back through my reports far more praise has been given out than criticism and deservedly so BUT if everybody on a forum praised everything what a boring place it would be and it would be like supporting one of the big four!!!! I'm feeling the need to post (I do so very rarely) as I want to share that I absolutely support DC and whatever he does throughout this season. I believe in judging a manager annually, or maybe halfway through the season at worst. Not day by day or game by game as seems to be the vogue currently. My logic is that I do not have access to the information needed on a daily, weekly or monthly basis to question his decisions in terms of team selection, transfer dealings etc to make a fair judgement. So instead I choose to assess managers on results over the season. Based on the last 2 seasons he can do whatever he wants this season and I will only question him at the end if we fail to stay in league 1. I completely understand that hardly anyone else feels like this based on forum contributions and the moaners at games. I appreciate my view is just that, mine and a forum is a place for debate but the negativity, recurring criticism and over reacting to team changes over the past 2 months is getting very exasperating to read. Just wanted to put out there that I have utmost respect for DC and he has my total support for the rest of the season come what may. He has earnt it. I honestly do not expect people to agree with me or my view, but I just felt like putting it out there. UTG If we all agreed with that the forum may as well close down and reopen in the close season. The problem is not with those that want to express an opinion about team selection or tactics but we those that won't accept any discussion without labelling it an attack on DC. Sadly you (and many others) seem to be part of that problem so in general if you, and others, are not happy with those discussions I'd respectfully suggest you go and find a forum that doesn't allow those discussions.

Up the GAS I'd have settled for 6 out of 9 points but that was before I knew how woeful Coventry were, only slightly less woeful than Bury. But then I could well imagine Charlton fans have similar thoughts after playing us.

Whilst some have questioned decisions made by DC, I genuinely believe the vast majority of our supporters have total respect for him and the work he's done at the football club.
Football's all about debates and opinions and I wouldn't have it any other way.
I totally understand why supporters who went to Charlton would feel frustrated and disappointed given the line-up.

I agree with you. Nobody is beyond criticism and everybody will make mistakes and people are allowed to point them out. I don't agree with his team selection against Charlton but as soon as the final whistle went that was that and I fully trust him with the next game. I trust him to do what he needs to in January and I trust him with the future of our football club. He can do pretty much what he wants as far as I'm concerned and I will agree and disagree along the way but the one thing I do know is that his decision making and managerial ability are better than any manager we have had in many a year and certainly better than me or anyone else on this forum. Very similar to my gut feeling on Monday. of course I was p'eed off as goal after goal went in, and the radio described the awful defending... but after the end I just thought f* it, I'm not going to get myself worked up over 1 game in Lge 1, especially against a team with a £1m player on the bench, and one left out because he was about to finalise a £10m deal! I know money isn't everything but it is often an indication of a club's support, history, size, potential. The time to get worked up was those sh**ty seasons in Lge 2 (both the 2000's and the 2011-2014 stint) and the decline of the Trollope regime when money was spent, and often spent pretty poorly. DC clearly gets a lot more right than he gets wrong, and that is what a LEAGUE is about (and 1 reason he does so badly in cups). 8 months of games. 46 'projects'. The long game. we lost a battle on monday but not the war. Oh, and BTW, DC knows he has f* ed up a few things this season. He's not daft. he is still only 39 as well... Oh gawd, please don't get them started on "what makes a 'big club'" again. You'll have half of them gearing up for a fight with Byron Anthony and wanting to smash up Oldham again.

i 1st watched rovers in 1966 but when i played was a half hearted supporter so im not so good on the twerton era. anyway i liked bill dodgin and don megson and in some ways enjoyed the trollope era but darrell clarke is the best manager we have ever had in my view . hes been fantastic for us and is i believe destined for better things with or without us. however hes made mistakes like everyone does and has copped some negative comments. supporters who made the effort to go to millwall, charlton and other games are allowed to voice there frustrations and despite a prevoius good record on recruitment he has failed this season, yes thats right he has failed. also wael has come into the club and cleared the crisis of debt which is great but we should still be allowed to question him on any given issue shouldnt we? stalin died in 1953,we dont want a dc and wael are always right no matter what regime at rovers do we?Well put - I have been watching and supporting Rovers since 1947 and agree that DC is amongst the best managers we have had - certainly the best in this era. Everyone makes mistakes and DC has made a few but supporters, because of their financial imput into the club, are entitled to an opinion - is that not what a forum is for? Not everyone, but I am sure most, who post on the forum have the best thoughts for the club and I have not seen any animosity against DC or the new owners and management. But genmuine concern - especially when things do not go right.

I quite enjoy a bit of sparring. It would be boring if it was a love in. As long as it remains a few, and most of us at the games are on the bus, I respect the right for groans on a forum as it gives me contrast and someone to argue with. It's stess therapy to have the odd keyboard war in good spirits, I bear no grudges to anyone You can't put conditions on debate on a forum. Saying as long as it remains a few sounds dictatorial. About 49-50 people on here have debated Charlton. Over 1500 at the game expressed what they thought. I'd suggest the prevailing thought is that DC got it wrong. Now move on.

I agree. Fed up with this negative forum and using it less and less. and me,I'm going 😤 Now for my 2 pence worth... I can fully understand why our away fans feel they way the do re team selection I can fully Understand why a lot of people get frustrated about DC - i do at times But at the end of the day DC has taken us from a near bankrupt team of no hoppers to a Force to be dealt with in League 1 and no matter what his "faults" are, that has to be respected. I think one of the biggest problems in and around our club is the uncertainty about our future home and is causing some people to "take it out" on the management. I also believe when the good news comes about our future home the whole attitude will change and people will have FAITH in our club AGAIN UTG

Amazing how many psychologists we have on here. Life is simple. Our performance analyst has proved our usual midfield were unfit, but Lawrence and Mansell were fit and raring to go. Yeah, right.
Meantime 1571 people travelled to London to see the reserves play. Great day out. Move on.

Henbury, I don't post to earn respect, I post to express my views. Isn't that what this forum is all about?
Most of what you post I tend to agree with, but now and then I don't. I still value your input because you are a fan.
Far more people at the game on Monday were angry about the team selected than have been involved in the debate on here. But that's life. Everyone has the right to post their thoughts, and I just think DC was wrong to pick the side he did, amid the idea that getting to and watching the game cost a lot of people a lot of money when we had fit players and better players watching from our end.
How that then translates to people wanting either DC or Wael removed is beyond me. It seems it has become an exclusive preserve on here to back everything that happens no matter how good or bad it is to be in the keep Wael and DC camp.
I would suggest that our massively increased followings away are BECAUSE of Wael and DC. Our hopes have now been raised, and that's why it hurt so much on Monday to be watching a reserve team.

You say they were fit but 2 of the 4 outfield players that did play both games over the weekend are now injured. At that rate, an unchanged XI may have meant us losing Taylor, Lines and Bodin as well. I say well done DC for thinking ahead rather than just about one game. UTG!
