How lucky were we there?? Prepared to come back to his "first love" club in any capacity so is happy to pick up the kitman duties...then the little nuggets of defensive coaching gold he's picked up operating at the top levels as a player after leaving us are instilled with true passion to our fledgling Conference squad and his duties are expanded. Turns out he can drop the kitman duties and become a first rate defensive coordinator when we're back in the EFL and both he and his charges grow into their roles month by month. A real voice of passion and reason on the sidelines...we have our setbacks but it is still generally an improving upward trend and it is brilliant to see him enjoying every minute of it. I have a screen soccer video where he was an extremely shy but passionate youngster doing a man's job being interviewed as the Denis Rofe team unraveled in the relegation season of 92/3...he still shuns the limelight now but what a great job he's doing behind the scenes...and it shows DC is as good a judge of what makes up a functional coaching unit as he is at determining what is required for each match "project".

Thought we had one of the worst defences in the league...?

Nah who told you that? Couple of one off projects against Charlton didn't work that's all ;-)

What's that old standard song? "What a difference a day makes"? Or 5 of 'em....

Top player in his day, he gave me his shirt when we won the league in 1990. My most treasured piece of Rovers memorabilia.👌

Said in the summer if DC had left then I would have been happy for him and Stewart to have took the reins.

Got his autograph at Blackpool 1989/90 and in the same class at school as his wife. Does anyone know if he is still married? I recall she got some stick for her accent many years ago whilst at Tranmere(?).

Should DC (god forbid!) leave in the next few years, then a Yates/Stewart double act would be my preference to replace him. Both of them speak well when they stand in for DC on pre- and post-match interviews, and would provide continuity. Anyway, all hypothetical as I hope DC stays to take us to the promised land one day! We can all dream...

Would I want them to be the best candidates? Yes. Would I want them as part of a team if they weren't ? Yes. I just don't think they are necessarily the best choice if Clarke left, and I am not sure if they would even say so, but I like to think Marcus could do it with a DOF type Marcus or Steve might not even want it. I like being a senior exec in my company but if I was offered the big chair I would turn it down - less pressure, less BS to peddle....

Yes it is good they have a history with the club and understand the club but also the continuity that comes with it, let's not forget they have both played their part in our recent success. They may not work in management but I have learned over time that no manager is guaranteed to do well, no matter how good the appointment looks on paper.

I always assumed he came here as kitman because he didn't actually have his coaching badges. He obviously had to be seen to be collecting Tony Adams-style clearances from behind the stands on matchdays, but he was always here to be a coach, and as soon as he passed his exams the kitman title could be dropped.

Chris Hargreaves seems to have a high profile at the club. Always on the pitch pre-match. My guess is that if DC left CH would take over, perhaps with SY staying and MS taking over at Exeter, with Paul Tisdale 'moving upstairs'.
