Slightly frivolous question I know but:-
What happens to the balls which end up in the gardens behind the South Stand following errant free kicks/25 yard shots/wayward headers over the stand? I have visions of a gnarled toothless old lady scuttling out of her house, picking up said ball and locking it in a cupboard under the stairs with hundreds of others collected over the years - and then refusing to answer the door when ball boys come knocking. Does DC come round after the match and ask "can I have my ball back missus?" Or is there a ninja-style raid under cover of darkness to recover them? Question been troubling me for years.

Used to go to an office that backed on to Bolton training ground - even when they were in the top flight and raking in millions they would still turn up and get really angry if the people in the office would not give them their balls back ......

Global inflation is down so there's no need to recover the balls.

I thought the houses nearest the ground were owned by the club and/or directors (ex-directors probably). When I was a kid I lived in Strathmore Road (behind the West Stand which was a wooden stand at the time) and 2 or 3 times a season we would get rugby balls in our garden - as I wasn't interested in that sport, I used to take them back to the club, who never suggested any kind of payment - I think I missed a trick there!

Global inflation is down so there's no need to recover the balls. If inflation was down they wouldn't clear the south stand in the first place!

If the recipients are anything thing like my old grumpy neighbour the balls would be knifed and thrown back over.

I remember when I was younger playing footy with my mates, one of them rocked up with a Mitre Ultimax he forked out £50 for. We all stood mouths open in awe. I'll never forget the difference kicking that ball to the sh**ty £4 ball we used to play with! Could do all sorts with it. Everytime it went towards the brambles you'd have 5 people chasing after it making sure it didnt go in Wouldn't surprise me if residents kept them. Not often you get your hands on a professional football

Wasn't it Shrewsbury who had someone fish them out of the river next to the old Gay Meadow ground?!

At Eastville the balls that went in the river sailed down to the gorge and were picked up by the old City94 players. That's why they were always richer than us.....
