"If money is now tight" ? We have released at least three loans and have spent a little on a non league player with huge increases in gates this season. Doesn't bode very well if we are in this tight a situation.

I don't think he will sign anyone that shores up an awful defense. DCs track record of goalkeeper signings is seriously poor .... fully expecting a hiding at Walsall secretly hoping he brings in a left back and a goalkeeper and has a plan already for Mattys replacement if Holloway is indeed planning a swoop.
Imagine He does nothing on all fronts and we will be in a relegation scrap by March.

DC has had nearly two years to sign a keeper so can't see him doing it this week...he's not the fastest mover in the transfer market.

We played all the teams in this division and are midtable,15pts is all we need to pick up in the second half of the season to be safe maybe even less. I have total confidence this team as it stands can achieve this. With a better keeper top half, with a better centreback aswell who knows whats reachable. Injuries are a worry but with two weeks still to go in this window that will be covered imo.

We've got a Conference goalie doing his best in goal and so far only signed a Conference player, at the moment surely that's telling it's own story? HG's probably edging his bets but my have backed a winner this time.

Doesn't bode very well if we are in this tight a situation. 1 "decent" player = £250k plus £250k for two years £750k plus extras. An extra 3000 x average price £15 = £45k p/w less costs £40k at best. X23 = £920k pa The gate might get us another player but given for the last 20 years we have lost money, I'm not upset with Clarke finding bargains from non league. It's in fact what made the gas spirit - hungry players from obscurity beating Jackie dzakinofsky with determination and effort. We could actually spend and go into debt again. Considering we just recovered from going bankrupt and have had debts cleared, I would be very upset if we started spending beyond our means when there is no rush. On the other hand, from outside it still looks like Clarke should have a keeper but we might be talking to 4 with our no1 target stalling etc. I doubt he is at home on his phone watching porn.

Aren't you confusing us with the 82er's or have I missed something? As far as having our debts cleared do you have evidence they've gone or just been moved to Dwane Sports? Given we're still apparently intending spending £m's on the UWE & Almondsbury I can't see we're now living within our means?

Would think we have to try to bring in a keeper by Saturday as Puddy's confidence is shot, and his defence and the fans have no confidence in him. The lethal cocktail of these things, coupled with a defence as a whole lacking in confidence, could spell disaster. Sometimes just a little tweak in personnel can bring about a big change and I don't think we should write our defence off as a whole just yet. The thing is, though, if it was easy as just bringing someone in off the streets, DC would clearly have already done it. It's not beyond the realms of possibility that Puddy will be between the sticks again on Saturday, but he certainly won't be come February.
I voted yes, by the way.

Have you been taking tips from me on how to contradict yourself in the same post? Not sure Puddy's confidence is "shot" as he seemed to play is typical game on Saturday, unfortunately for us that seems to include an howler per game!

I doubt Walsall are paying Etheridge more than £100K/150K per week plus what's the "plus £250K" for as no other club is paying transfer fees anywhere near that figure? Assuming we could have got a decent goalie like Etheridge in the summer then it would have probably cost us around £200K/300K for a 2 year contact, Roos probably cost a tenth of that. Regardless if Wael doesn't want to pay the going Div 1 rates for a player how is he ever going to build a side to get us promoted established in the Championship?

It never ceases to amaze me how much sh*t can be surfaced on this forum out of nothing.
DC has said he has the backing of the board to get new players in this window. I read that as "we have some money to spend". Just because we haven't signed a keeper yet, doesn't mean he's lying.
Funnily enough, I expect the clubs that own good, experienced keepers and tall commanding centre backs are not that keen on releasing them.
I further suspect that any from higher divisions (who are perceived to be better) that may be struggling to get game time are not that keen to step backwards to train and play at our facilities.
I'm also sure any that are prepared to step down - for the right money - will be rightly treated with a healthy amount of cynicism by DC.
But of course, the easy thing is to believe it's a lack of funds.
