Has had his contract mutually terminated by Derby according to Sky Sports, maybe just maybe...

He might be better than Puddy but he's 35 in a couple of weeks so almost certainly past his best.
Also see he's been a pro for 17 years but has clearly spent a lot of time as a No.2 because based on his appearances he averages about 19 games a season. Nearly 80% of his total appearances have been for Shrewsbury & Yeovil so he's played the majority of his career in the lower leagues.
Only game he played this season was against Mansfield in the Checkatrade Trophy and he conceded 3 goals.
I assume Derby rate Roos higher as they called him back.
As I said, probably better than Puddy but I don't think he's the long term No.1 we're looking for if I'm honest.

If Chris Weale is the best that DC can come up with on the Goalkeeping front then god help us. An improvement on Puddy but only just.

I've already broke the Gerken news, this is a pointless thread.

I've already broke the Gerken news, this is a pointless thread. I see Gerken is playing for Ipswich tonight in their FA Cup replay. Team news LINCOLN CITY Danny Cowley made six changes to the team that lined up at Portman Road, but the Imps were still able to seal a 3-1 win at Gateshead in the FA Trophy on Saturday. IPSWICH TOWN Luke Chambers and Cole Skuse should start after missing the first match with swollen knees. Dean Gerken will once again replace Bartosz Bialkowski.

Far better keeper than Weale in my opinion and between 3 and 4 years younger too.

Just putting two and two together and coming up with...... I would prefer Gerken personally!

Not a bad signing for the short term if we sign a new number 1 in the summer

Gerken every time for me. Weale having his contract cancelled tells me he has something lined up. Sighted on a train at Parkway towards the end of last week, let's hope he was on his way to Newport who have been signing everyman and his dog since the window opened. Would be very surprised if we were to entice Gerken away from the tractor boys. One things for sure, Weale was a very good keeper in his younger days, but in recent years he has had plenty of clubs and as many injuries and more importantly he was making plenty of mistakes in his last spell at Yeovil. Amazing how he arrived at Derby, but disappeared into obscurity there without a whimper. .

I doubt it. surely we're looking for any keeper of Lge 1 standard? We've had 3 keepers this season and none have been Lge 1 standard.

I know people are only expressing their opinions on here that they think Gerken is better than Weale and that's fair enough but I would disagree with the age thing for two reasons: 1.) We need a keeper asap and even if it's only til the Summer when we can sign other/better options then that's good enough for me. Weale is available now and if he's agreed to terminate his contract he's probably had a bit of a pay off meaning his wage demands might not be that high. 2.) 34 is not old for a keeper. Van Der Sar signed for Man Utd when he was 34 and remained their first choice keeper til he was 40. You could argue these were his best days.
If you don't think he's very good then that's your opinion and that's fine. But if we do sign him, don't make your mind up on him before he's played for Rovers just because he turns 35 next month. UTG!

Weale would be a poor signing in my view...only one game for Derby and his performance makes Puddy look good...I hope DC has watched this video...

Problem is I can't recall Weale doing anything decent since he left the 82ers? Would sooner wait for Mildenhall to return!

Chris Weale may not be the long term solution but if we sign him until the end of the season it wouldn't be the worst shout. He's played over 250 Football League games compared to Puddy's 9 with two-thirds of them being in League One and above.

We always seem to be in the same position though, DC doesn't rate Milds so drops him/Milds gets injured, then we are left scratching around for loan replacements hoping to get one who can at least perform like a pro keeper.
If they can get someone in short-term better than the option we have then so be it, but in the summer this goalkeeping farce needs to be sorted for the long term.
This is the one thing that DC hasn't managed well since he dropped Milds at the end of the conference season imo.

GK is such an important position that perhaps we shouldn't be looking for a Championship reserve, out of contract GK or repeat loanee but splashing a bit of cash in the expectation that we can tick that selection box for a few seasons to come. Offer Walsall 100k for Etheridge (as a starting figure)!
