Went for £250k from Wimbledon in the summer, was highly rated there it seems. Lacks experience though obviously. Be interesting to see who starts of him and Partington tomorrow, you'd imagine Partington. Both According to Stokes website we missed the cut off today so Sweeney isn't available for tomorrow..

This signing suggests to me that JCS won't be back.
I have to say that Macca alongside two of these youngsters would be a really good combination, but hey ho what do I know!!

Interesting dilemma for DC tomorrow then - who does he play at CB alongside TL? With Hartley and JCS out injured, and Macca told he won't be considered for first team selection, then I fear we look a bit short of experience and organisation at the back, or does DC go to MM and say - "Hey Mark, you know what I said yesterday, well, I might have been a little hasty......"
We signed another centre half for a fee last week ...but if Leadbitter is injured then Clarke will be RB, and yes Partington can play RB or CB - but for goodness sake does that give us that experience and organisation and communication we need at the centre of defence?

I know right?! Robbie Ryan had 226 appearances for Millwall when he joined us. Carl Regan came to Rovers from MK Dons. Those are the sort of players we need! How about Mansel, Lines and McChrystal, even Sincs and Taylor had Conference experience. In the summer Hartley and Moore were signed, so it's utter nonsense to say all players with league experience are going to be useless and none of them will sign for us. It's OK having young players as squad fillers but not main stays. I think you're proving my point for me. Just as it's nonsense to say all players with league experience are going to be useless it's as much nonsense to say they will be a success. There are plenty of Alan Gows and Andy Bonds out there in the January windows. Do we want them for their league experience? As you yourself say - clearly the league the player is currently playing in is not a reliable metric for how useful they will be to the club so perhaps DC has discovered a different basis on which to make that judgement?

Macca has literally played about 10 more games at this level than Partington - the way you talk about them both you'd think its 100. He's captained Eastleigh, who as we all know cherry pick experienced FL players with egos. Surely that suggests some sort of organisational skill and potential for leadership capabilities? I think Macca could have played a role this season but its not to be, the way people are writing off new signings is fairly awful to be fair. With 4 CBs once JCS is back and 3 players who can play RB I think we'll be fine for 20 games.

Broom has been playing RB in recent games for the 'Reserve' team. He has played well in defence and has good pace in making overlapping runs down the wing.

I'm just genuinely concerned that we have a real gap in a key area of the pitch. Of course I wish/hope/pray that the new guys hit the ground running and are the players we all want them to be.
It just seems odd to me that the very blunt announcement about the six yesterday, which included MM, leaves us short of experience for the Walsall match as the new guy isn't eligible, and also for a few matches after that until those on the treatment table are available again.

Hartley is injured and MM no longer in his plans, so we were 2 centre backs down. He likes to play 3 at the back some of the time, so we need 4 centre backs, especially now there is no short term loan market.

I'd really like to see him on the bench and come on when a games won give him a bit of first team experience. Out of our current crop I'd say he's one who's going to make it although I haven't seen Lucas other than one sub appearance for the first team so can't really comment on him.

Why can't we just sign somebody with Div 1 experience, or even any league experience, does DC have a phobia about it or something? Hmm choice...sign a seasoned league one player that no championship or premiership are interested in OR Sign a young league two player that IS wanted by a championship club or premiership club.
Would the signing be better if rovers had paid £250,000 for the highly rated player from Wimbledon ?
I remember a time when Rovers had a young central defender with no experience, Steve Yates. He was useless wasn't he......

According to a friend who works with the Stiffs at Stoke,Sweeney is left sided mid-field.Not sure how that fits in with our intended formation.

You're not suggesting Broom, becomes a right back are you p49! ? Shades of McGhee there ! When I first saw Broom playing for youth teams a few years ago he often played LB/LM. In the recent 'Reserve' matches Broom has been RB with Little switching across to LB; almost as if both were on trial..one to go and one to keep. If Greenslade stays around then Broom and he could be seen as cover for the FB roles.
