He was getting micro managed by the bench as soon as he went on. Ellis this and Ellis that for the duration of his time on the pitch. He has the ability but needs the freedom to express himself. Right now he needs that treatment and I think he'd always take the easy option. If he tried to express himself, he will inevitably lose it at some point... And then the gas faithful will rip him an absolute new one from the stands. There are some just waiting for him to make a mistake, sad times I was say behind the dugout. They were shouting at him non stop. If anything, having 3 people barking instructions will take you off your game rather than keep you on it. Why not instruct other players to cover Ellis and let him do his stuff?

I remember the first game at Exeter, last season, each time he got the ball he had 13 managers. I said, at the time, it was no way to carry on. His confidence was rock bottom and he felt totally alone. I like the guy and he loved it when he was MOTM and came in to our FFSC crew singing his song. You could see he was thrilled and buzzing. He could be a great player. My only comment and not a criticism is that he and Gosling always try to cut inside rather than go on the outside of their defender. This makes them easier to defend against. That said, I think he can do a job as an old fashioned inside forward a la bannister. He has the tools, all that is needed is confidence. I hope the fans see that support will provide a much better player. I was a bastard at his age but am fairly ok now, depends on who you ask . He is an Angel by comparison. Go Ellis Go !!

Strikers who cover back often encourage defenders to push forward. Defenders from the front yes but chasing attacking full backs in to your own half is somebody else's job. Ellis should stay up top and occupy the other teams defence.
