Gerry Francis for me.
Shoestring budget while renting Bath's ground, took us into the Championship for the first time in my lifetime. He even used his own cash to sign Holloway!!
I am one very fortunate to have been at Twerton on 2nd May 1990, staying late to cheer the players on the grandstand steps after the game, listening to Olly and Gerry on the mic, then there was that magical finale at Blackpool the following weekend where there was no doubt we would win.
DC is pushing him very close but as DC had a bigger budget than most up to now Gerry shades it.
Holloway would be third purely for the exciting football and goals he brought to the club.

I was at twerton that evening of pure joy and my daughter was our mascot in Blackpool on the last day we also all went to Wembley a few days later

Difficult to choose really. What Gerry did was special as the rag bag rovers tag suggests. Holloways side with cureton and Roberts up top played some of the best football I have seen the gas play. Dc is with out a doubt the most important manager we have had. To get us back into the football league at the first attempt should not be underestimated and without that we could have been in a dire position now i.e. Stockport . Also dc is still here and cannot really be judged until his journey with the gas is over but I have a funny feeling he will be judged as the best manager we have had when his time is up. Said it on here before he reminds me of Brian clough, a likeable arrogance about him that gets the best from the players he works with.

DC is is the most IMPORTANT manager we've ever had, not necessarily the best.

I guess you weren't around during the Twerton years, when you look back it's remarkable the club survived that period let alone got promoted to the old Div 1.

Nope, I started watching at Twerton but I missed the Francis years.

It depends how you, measure success. If it's by league position then Tann, Megson and Francis MK1. If it's by league position and finance brought to the club then Francis MK1. If it purely by promotions regardless of level then DC.

Gerry for me. He worked absolute miracles with little more than loose change. The 2nd May 1990 is still my personal highlight of being a Rovers fan. Then DC. He has given us so much to celebrate. Then I can't decide. Ward Mk1 for helping us recover after the 'Big Mal' experiment, Ollie for the football, Trolls for 2 finals and that Wembley moment - first time I'd seen us win a 'big one' or even the short reign of Osman/Broaduhurst for saving us from certain relegation and probable bankruptcy. God knows whether would still have a Rovers if we had gone down that time.

Atkins was more than just a little responsible for overseeing the Osman/Broadhurst period in fact he did join officially before the end of that season.

This would have been perfect for a poll
In my days of watching Gas would be
1) GF - 1st spell obviously (!) 2) DC 3) JW - 1st spell
Historically it has to be Bert Tann surely?
seven consecutive Top 10 finishes in what is now the Championship, an England cap for Bradford, getting VERY close to promtion to the First Division in one season.

David Williams was a forgotten gem.
28 when he took over.
5th and 6th in Third Tier, followed then by the apparent return of the Premier League messiah (Bobby Gould) who took us back to 16th!

Statistically, it currently sits with a certain Mr.Clarke. www.managerstats.co.uk/clubs/bristol-rovers/Not sure how how accurate this is. Was trying to see how he compares in a league table of managers. Even so, he is ahead by a good 5% in these stats so sure he's still up there. Interesting to see on that page our total of 1,610 wins,1,097 draws and 1,618 defeats. Wonder how long it's been since we had more wins that defeats? By my reckoning, if we can get to more wins than defeats by the end of the season we'll also be in the play-offs!

I realize that we were broke, and GF worked miracles for us back then but was the spirit of the Club and squad anywhere near as broken as when DC took over?
Genuine question for those that can remember.

Genuine question for those that can remember. The squad has never been as broken as that season we dropped out of the league, Gerry inherited an ok division 3 side so I think DC had it harder in that respect but in terms of finances I think Gerry had it harder than DC particularly now that we've got Wael.
