I heard on the radio today that 11,000 pubs have shut in the last 6 years in Britain, seems a lot but if its true i cant see the Vic surviving. An attack on British culture. Any other industry or culture under that sort of threat would receive national news air time and government funding grants. Shame as once they are gone, there's no getting them back. I grew up in the friendship in knowle. Breaks me seeing the fine old building now housing a Tesco. Good job it's not Sainsbury's then!

Why don't the supporters club buy the Vic ,they can then have it as there head quarters ,and used as a pub ,club functions, and fund raising , Certain members of BRSC are going to be spending a long time behind bars so why not

The Vic is the last bastion of old school boozers on Gloucester Rd , sadly its all about chain pubs & gastro pubs , the Vic will not reopen as a pub IMO , its not in a good state, look up at the roof by the bar near the loos , its falling in & the kitchen is tiny .. The pub is totally dead bar 2 hrs before and 1 hr after gas games and half the match day drinkers are buying booze in the shop opposite rather than in the pub .. Anyone thinking of buying it needs to think again , I've been in the trade pubs like that are finished sadly

The trouble with the Vic is that it's the most run down pub on that part of Gloucester Road, The Anchor, Royal Oak, Welly, inn on the green and now even the bloody duke of York have gone under refurbishment

Harsh Simon, your knowledge of "Teds" and their drinking establishments far outstrips mine We remarked on Saturday on heading up to the ground that there were far less drinkers outside than normal, been in once or twice over the years but not really my cup of tea (or real ale). Sadly I suspect it will be converted to flats or a retail outlet, can't have too many charity shops on Gloucester Road.

Not sure who the landlord is but there hasn't been any investment in it at all. It's convenience was the best part. Opposite the bus stop, a very good chippy, a shop to buy cans when it's too busy to get inside! Plus of course a short stroll to the game. They must have made enough on matchdays alone to more than cover the costs but alas...no doubt poorly managed.

The trouble is a pint from the supermarket is £1.50 and it's nearly £4.00 in a pub so a lot can't afford to pop in regularly like they used to. The managed pubs and the rents they are charged plus business rates make survival of local pubs difficult. It's a big loss to the local communities but being a landlord is no longer the good living it was.

Add in the fact that weatherspoons are still actively seeking the plot over the road (reclamation yard by co -op) and what little trade it has bar football will go where its cheaper! i love the vic but its time to look elsewhere for pre/post match drinks

The food is good as well and not too expensive.

I like the Annexe and I'm especially partial to a drop of the rattler, I always seem to feel sh** on the Sunday I always put it down to something I eat!
