I was just looking at the fixture list and noticed that we don't play everybody once in the first half of the season and then everybody again in the second half. For example we play Telford and Forrest Green again in October. Funny old league this Vanarrama.

Fixtures are hand-picked. We can always expect a local game on Boxing day and New Years day.

This is also how the fixtures are done in the AFL (Aussie Rules) where the average match attendance is in the 30-40k mark. Certain fixtures occur every year on bank holidays (often attracting 90k crowds) and the first round of fixtures also tends to see a clash between the two teams from the Grand Final from the previous year. They also have 'rivalry round', 'indigenous round' and a host of other special fixtures on key dates. All of the other fixtures are worked around these.
It's actually a bloody smart way of doing it as they maximise attendances and bring in more money to the game than the random fixturing many other leagues use. Got to applaud the vanarama conference for their forward thinking approach on this I reckon!

I can't see the attraction myself in watching Torquay twice during the festive season, can anybody else?
Surely another "local" game re Kiddy or FGR would be far more attractive instead of playing Torquay twice?

Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk Quite happy to play them at our place over Xmas but the whole town is missing out on a bumper payday by them failing to request playing us in one of the warmer months - we take a lot away to the seaside if it's a decent (or indecent!) resort.

I remember reading somewhere the league sent out a "questionnaire" to each team asking who they'd like to play on certain dates. I.e. Grimsby played Lincoln boxing day the last 2 seasons. As we are Torquay's nearest team and have always taken a good crowd down there and a lot of other teams probably wouldn't have they asked for us and we probably asked for them New Years. Probably the same with Forest Green on Bank Holiday monday and a shortish trip to Kidderminster on Easter Monday.
