I feel the SC has got it wrong having the player of the year presentation at a open day for kids during the Easter break. Surely this should be when the Young Pirates hold theirs?
The committee seem to think because we were in a dismal run with players and managers that didn't want to be here in the past, that a presentation evening would not be a success. They may have lost money before but sometimes it is the rare (for us!) good times that mean more than money.
It is not like an bore fest evening with Atkins, Buckle or Grayson etc Most fans would love to have a end of season chance to mix with DC and the players.
Gos turned up to watch recently when FGR did not have a game and I saw him spend a good 5 mins chatting to a family about playing v Germany and how is doing at FGR. The attitude of this group of players is nothing like those a few years ago who were racing to leave social events seconds after they had done their "duty"
The presentation evenings under Gerry, Ward at Twerton and Ollie were great and I think under DC they would be just as good- if not better.
I think an evening at the mem on the Monday after the last game (by chance a bank holiday) would have had a really good turn out. (If kit and this seasons training kit was offered at discounted price/SC/YP memberships etc they would make a killing.
It seems strange that Jim made the point that the majority of fans missed out on the Glos Rd celebrations last year, but now the majority (working people) miss out the chance to meet the players this year.
As for POTY , I would say Lines has been the most consistent all season, but since the New Year Ollie has been the best. I suppose Sweeney or Lumley can't win cos I) their on loan ii) only been here a few months. The good thing is that DC has given Bodin, Locks, Monty, LEDs etc the chance to play themselves back into form.
