Most of you are likely to be familiar with the name Clarke Osborne, so this is a call out for help to raise awareness and attempt to stop the man and his company GI, from doing to Torquay united, what he I believe had a hand in doing to Rovers all those years ago.
GI have taken advantage of a situation at Torquay united and as a result now own the club. There is a lot of talk and no action about recruiting players to help battle relegation, and also about a new stadium and buying the freehold of the current ground from the council. Sound familiar?
The club is dying because it has been mismanaged for the last few years and if Clarke gets his way then TUFC will lose its home and likely no longer exist.
I regularly go to Rovers games as I live here and felt at home straight away at the memorial, but I grew up in Torquay and united are my team.
So really, this is a call out to raise awareness in the south west football community, ask for advice and see if any of you would be willing to come down and attend a home game at plainmoor to protest against the owners and stand alongside Torquay fans in support.

I feel really sorry about what's gone on a Torquay United ...I'd love to have seen the Gulls back in the League one day as the more clubs we have in the league in the South West the better (with the exception of one club I wont name) but that day seems a long way off and really it's a battle for survival I'm afraid for you Gulls. I'm not sure what Gasheads can do to help apart from moral support and I doubt if a few coming down to protest will change much. Just hope things improve for you... If you can stay up this year there is hope and all I can suggest is making the local council well aware of the concerns and making sure the new owners don't get the freehold of the ground until a new one is built. I can't understand why there has been no loans or signing by Torquay...I guess the owners are not concerned about a further relegation?

As a matter of interest is there a domestic market on the land?

I really feel for the plight of TUFC, It was not long ago that they were relegated out of the league with us. Having seen Rovers being mismanaged a lot, Torquay will really need to turn it around if they want a sustainable future in the Professional divisions. I will keep an eye on there results, a draw away at Wrexham wasn't a bad result for them today!

As a matter of interest is there a domestic market on the land? There is some type of protection in place that the land is used for recreation, I believe, as it was donated to the council years ago, but by a lot of accounts, developers and councils can find a way around a block like that.

Unfortunately, the board don't care about the club, they're property developers, it suits them more if we're relegated. Cynical view but lack of action to bring players in is more proof. Kevin Nicholson has done a great job there in very difficult circumstances.

There's a lot of information being leaked about what's going on behind closed doors and if true it doesn't look good. The fact no signings were brought in to strengthen a 16 man squad to combat relegation to the national league south is the most obvious negative sign.

Its a real shame to see you struggling so much Rich I've got a soft spot for Torquay. We have had some great weekends down there over the years I hope it all gets sorted for you in the end and you get back in football league some time soon! Good luck.

I come from Paignton and so Torquay are my first club too. The last few years have been a real mess. I only see them on the odd occasion now as I've been following Rovers for the last fifty years. When we went down to the conference look how lucky we were to bounce back first time. Unfortunately Torquay haven't got a big catchment area to bring crowds in to support them. I'm just hoping they can stay up and something constructive can come out of all of this.

I agree there isn't the same potential catchment as there is in Bristol and the surrounding area, but Torbay and Teignbridge had a combined population of 255,000 back in 2011, is that less than Swansea (as an example), who when they got into the championship started generating much bigger crowds. To me, the crowds are directly related to the success, if a club does well then inevitably crowds improve, along with the ambition shown by the club to keep progressing. They are getting between 1,400 and 1,800 per game at home, much more than many other conference teams, it ought to be not only sustainable, but also a foundation to build off of. If Rovers go up to the Championship at some point, expect sell out games at the memorial, if they get promoted and move to UWE, i would envisage the success and new ground will attract around a 40-50% increase in attendance immediately, so approx 13,500 (this is a conservative estimate and possible could be higher) if Rovers can then build on a promotion to the championship with good performances and high finishes, i would expect the attendance figures to rise over a period of time as more new fans become interested or are swayed to following Rovers.
