Andy Gurney was a good Left Back, but for me the best Left Back we've had since Vaughan Jones is Matt Lockwood. We released Lockwood and replaced him with an inferior Trevor Challis.
Matt Lockwood went on to play over 300 games for Leyton Orient and scored 50 goals.
I have a lot of time for Lee Brown, sticking with us when we dropped to The Conference, and has pretty much been an ever present since he arrived, missing very few games. He will go down as a Rovers legend for that goal against Dagenham alone.
Well don in getting to 250 games, hopefully you'll clock up a lot more.

Great servant to this club. Seems to be at the right level at league one and think we'd possibly need to look elsewhere if we stepped up to the championship or at least have very good competition, but definitely would deserve the chance to show his mettle at the next level.

Hugo the Youngers favourite player.
Brown completely upended a Fleetwood player in HTYs first ever game. Went right though him and the ref waved play on!!
Been his fave player ever since!

How many total apps? This was from back in September: TOTAL appearances - I make it 283 for Brown, including Bath City & Dorchester and guess what... 283 for Linesy. This is based just on soccerbase, and knowledge of them missing off Bath & Dorchester. If someone has a fancy database full of bells and whistles, then they may have a 'definitive' answer.

Not a massive fan but looked solid today. Which left back in recent history do you rate over Brown out of interest? I think at this level he is spot on. I do think he's a decent left back at this level also but I'm just not his biggest fan. Wish he'd get tighter and often looks afraid to actually make a tackle, but that's just my opinion. In my time watching Rovers I don't think we've had anyone particularly outstanding. Joe Jacobson was class the season we got promoted but looked half the player Browner is at League One level. I thought Aaron Lescott was a very good left back - especially for a right back. It's a position we've struggled with really. Browner does the job and you cannot fault his ever presence over the past few seasons, and of course THAT goal, but as a defensive unit I see him being the weak link. Just my opinion of course.

Lots of people mention Lee B needing to get tighter but tbh so does Leads and also most full backs in the lower leagues. From what I've seen over the past few seasons few FBs get tight and certainly don't man mark. It seems to be the way it is that FBs only get tight in a few situations. They've tried to get tight to Billy B but that doesn't work! Not just a Rovers thing I think. Also, I've said it before but Lee B pulling out of the Mansfield match on the day, with Michael Smith already missing, was a massive loss. Can't say had he played we'd have got a draw but I still think to this day had he played we would not have gone down. And his staying in 2014 must have been a massive lift to DC at the time, so well done to LB hope he gets to 500. UTG!
