At least this is the sort of player we should be going for and it is good to see that we are paying money for players. In truth it doesn't matter how he played for Oxford other than he was a regular player until the fall out. I can see him playing with Lines in centre midfield with competition for the pair in the form of Sinclair and Ollie Clarke although how Clarke was playing before his injury he will push them and this is an important season for him to see if he can continue his great improvement and push on. DC has already said that he was after two central midfielders and a left sided one. I feel this is the attacking midfielder and a more defensive midfielder will follow giving us five players going for either 2 places or three places depending on circumstances. I would call this a pretty good first signing. i can see us playing a 4-1-3-2 or a 4-2-3-1 formation With OC and/or The Beard just in front of the defense and CL/LS/BB in attacking Roles with gaffers and/or AN Other up top.....

Ledson, lundstram? all these great midfield players so why did our midfield totally dominate you twice last season, especially the stroll in the park the game at your place was? Hahaha! Oxford finished above us mind! Oh, your doing that 'based on' thing that ggmi does... They finished just above us in the table as they did in the league 2 promotion season but in the 4 games against them in that period their midfield or any other department didnt look better than ours and at oxford last season o clarke, lines and sinclair completely dominated that area of the pitch.

Not sure if you've posted anything else on this thread but are you happy we've now, apparently, spent some decent money on a CM? Yes,he looks like a good signing. We need a keeper,centre-back and strikers of course but we needed a footballing midfield player as only lines fulfils that role.

Isn't that going to be LS' role, unless DC just sees him playing in the dreaded diamond formation like HG's already suggested?

I just mean we need more than one "footballing" midfield player for competition and injury cover. You can bet that next season we will play in different formations including 3 at the back and some version of the diamond because thats the managers way of managing.

I don't doubt we will see him in a diamond formation at some stage as DC adapts his team/formation to the opposition.

Every team finishes where they deserve to at the end of the season. Oxford finished above us this season and well done to them. This is true...though final tables don't always reflect the season as it passed week by week. Look at BCFC for example their last two final league positions on paper look quite reasonable but do not reflect their relegation dogfights both seasons.
Had Rovers not gone gung ho in a few games they would have finished with more points. Live and learn I guess.
They were also pivotal in the Millwall promotion and saving Gillingham from relegation.

I was clearly answering BB's post saying we need another attacking CM, although i assume DC's plan where players are going to fit into the team or otherwise we could end up with 10 CM's and no goalies or CF's.

You've signed a very decent player here, signed for us two summers ago and was a revaluation in league 2, I think he played the holding midfield role at Exeter but Appleton played him forward of Jonny Lundstram in our midfield, and in my opinion they were the best centre mid pairing in the league by some way. He started in same role in league 1 but after 6 straight away defeats he was dropped for Ledson who to be fair is a better footballer. Don't know what system you play but he will do well for you as the attacking centre midfield, I imagine he's had assurances he won't be played out wide which is a waste of his talent, he is a decent right back so could be used there. To oxford fans he will alwYs be remembered for his goals in league 2 and abilty to get important goals......good luck Sercs, you played your part in a great time for OUFC Thanks. Good to hear an opinion from where LS has been for two years. I wasn't at the away match so can't comment and let's be fair all teams have a few nightmare matches in a season, perhaps that was one of yours. I bet most Charlton fans will have us down for relegation after two awful matches against them. I guess the question would be if LS hadn't had the fall-out with MApp would he still have been there, in other words not let go? I know we all need more than two central midfielders over a season so even if for a time you think you've got better pair in CM we are very happy with this signing esp DCs ability to get the best out of most players. I reckon after two years Rovers and Oxford are fairly close and shouldn't be seperated by many places in coming season. UTG! Wasn't trying to turn this thread into a Oxford v rovers comparison, just you've got a honest, hard working player who will score if played in correct position

We've got more stands than you, in fact we've got more stands than anyone!

Sorry if it came across as that. My point was more about those who said he didn't have much of a match against us and the fact that all teams have their poorer games, we certainly did, against Charlton but that I was pleased to see him. Also however badly, well teams play when gas and Oxford meet the table says we're pretty close and are likely to be next season.😀 UTG!
