I never understand why so many people think that the Al-qadis are going to spend a fortune on players, be it £100k or 1 million. They've never promised this. In fact they made a point of mentioning evolution, not revolution. Despite pledging to back DC in the transfer market, Darrell Clarke has never been a manager to spend much money on players either with Salisbury City or us. In the modern transfer market, you don't need to throw lots of money around to get really good quality players, you just need to find ones who are out of contract. Darrell himself said in the last window, that he would be patient in getting the right players in; which I took to mean that the ones he was after, would be out of contract in the next transfer window. I would prefer this policy to Mr Lansdown's. To be fair City walked this league and teams who spend a bit of money do seem to succeed in L1. The recent exceptions seem to be Charlton and Peterborough but I am sure they will be a lot better next season and combined with teams coming into L1 it will be a lot harder to achieve a top half finish. £100k is nothing for a player these days. Evolution not revolution is fine, but sometimes you have to pay the price for quality. Quality players out of contract we will face big competition for.

He signed a new 3 year contract with QPR in August 2016 unfortunately.

I was going off what it says on this website: www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joe-lumley/profil/spieler/336367But then I have just found a news article saying he signed a 3 year contract in August. I'll just delete my previous post then to save my blushes.

Really expecting Doncaster to go straight through L1 ..... money will be spent there and players will come in .
Plymouth and Portsmouth could do equally well for different reasons ..... Plymouth have a very decent settled team and they have a couple who could play in the Championship. Somehow Portsmouth will buy in players and again could kick on.
Rotherham I think will go straight through unless they get a seriously decent manager in .... expect Wigan to be up there as they will spend some money under their eager young Chairman.
Throw in the three failed play off teams this season and L1 will be a seriously tough ask next season!! Probably hoping that Bradford take the last spot which might make life slightly easier, Fleetwood will be very tough though again potentially. Southend, Millwall , Oxford , Rochdale and throw in a surprise team ... we may have missed our chance this year.
Hopefully with four or five additions we will be much stronger and push on .... big eight weeks ahead!!

What would be preferable? A known player in Lumley on a season long loan or an untested (in Rovers colours) new permanent signing?

Or... the promoted teams don't do very well in the summer lose some early games, sack their managers and struggle to stay in the league. The teams coming down carrying on falling down the leagues as losing becomes a habit and we're left to win the league easily. Anyone can make things up. Everyone will be in league 1 for a reason. Will it be easier or harder than this year? No one knows.

I'd have lumley for another year. Seemed to settle in well and I doubt we can get better permanently to be honest.
Plus the back 5 will have had game time together which is a big plus imo.

Someone (not me BTW) should make up a song for him for the last game.. make him want to come back next season to make sure he heard it right... perhaps something along the lines of So Lonely by The Police

I think he means to sing 'Joe Lumley' to the tune of So Lonely. Better than my idea of singing 'Wouldn't it be Lumley!': All we need is a goalkeeper to Pluck the ball out the cold night air He has amazing hair Oh wouldn't it be Lumley I've already got my coat.

I think he means to sing 'Joe Lumley' to the tune of So Lonely. Ah. Yeah.. I could probably stretch my own creativity to the chorus, it's the witty insightful bit before I struggle with.
