Well at least this shows Vittles isn't getting any ideas from this forum. Glad he is a journo and not a scout though!!
I see the teds have jumped all over this article as proof we have no money. Sad bastards.

All of the names I would be disappointed with. At strikers alone, if we are to bring in 3, I would like 1 experienced head and 2 "up and coming" players. Bury have done well with Beckford, I would loved it if we had someone in the same mold and 2 strikers from league 1 and 2 who had decent records in front of goal.

Out of interest, if you had to fill out a similar article who would be the five names you go for? I was having a quick look at the list of released players this summer and as the article states, they're all getting released for a reason.

Remi Streete would be one of mine, released cos Port Vale cant afford to keep him following relegation.

Wonder if they are still 'prowed' of Maynards comments about them when he left around being spat on by them and his family having bottles thrown at them over his wanting to leave and that he didn't want his children growing up speaking like them

Think any self respecting jurno should know of the history and probability his experience with the family club would rule out any move back to Bristol

They mention Maynard not wanting his kid to have a Bristolian accent quite a bit, nothing about the other stuff though. Funny that!!
As for Maynard, he went to Cardiff soon after so he obviously gave up worrying about accents.

And he bought a pair of sling back wellies so he could go with the flow.

Jack seems to really making an effort and a lot of his stuff is very good considering the pressures of filling pages days and he seems to get out and about which I like in a journalist. OK perhaps this one did not come up with great recommendations but it still highlights what's on the market and reminds us that Ellis and Gaffers are not half as bad as some on here would have us believe. Other than they don't really score many goals and didn't step up when we needed them when Taylor left? I think westwindy's point is very valid. Last season's stats for Ellis and Gaffers vs Vittles' list: Rory Gaffney (League 1): 41 apps, 9 goals Ellis Harrison (League 1): 42 apps, 9 goals Kyle Laffery (Championship): 22 apps, 5 goals Marcus Tudgay (League 1): 35 apps, 4 goals Nicky Maynard (League 1): 34 apps, 2 goals Sylvan Ebanks-Blake (League 1): 21 apps, 3 goals Jake Charles (Loan - National league): 2 apps, 0 goals That's not to say that Charles doesn't have potential or that Lafferty might bang them in for fun at this level, but the fact is that not many strikers do score 20 in a season. In our league I think 2 managed it last season. That's why DC is right when he says you have to look beyond the obvious to find the value as most clubs are priced out of the market for bona fide proven strikers purely because they are so rare. Also if you do it one season that is absolutely no guarantee that it will be repeated the next.

A likely lucrative two year contract for a 33 year old who's scored 1 in his last 18. No thanks. Don't think he's DC material anyway.

I agree with pudsey - they "didn't step up" after MT left Ellis Harrison managed just 1 goal - actual league goals total 8 (4 in one match) in 38 league appearances. Rory Gaffney a bit better 4 goals after MT left although he only managed 6 league goals in 39 league appearances.

Especially as he likes a good punch up on the pitch with his team mates

It looks more like the celebrity death sweepstake list? I don't mind if the bottom one comes true though.

Well I'd be looking at players released at a higher level for a start. However, I think we are more likely and would prefer us to go down the route of signing young strikers with potential at a lower level.

It's easy to get carried away with 'big' names this time of year.

The Squad lost some experienced older players last season who brought good attitudes to the changing room. I should imagine DC might want to bring in some similar type of people but with a step higher in experience. So expect two or three players on the "way down" who would like some success to climb back up a little and be influencial in the squad.
