Hated every second of that day, up until that wonderful man Lee Mansell settled it. I've never been so nervous in the build up for any game. Yup. I hated every second and when we won I was too ground down to properly enjoy it. I was just exhausted. From the minute the tickets went on sale and the debacle with the club not having the proper details meaning we couldn't get our tickets in the priority allocation to the final whistle I have no good memory of that event.

What a day that was though! Was well worth flying back for.
I somehow managed to keep the thought loosing out of my mind. I dread to think how it would have felt to have lost that one. Far worse than any other final we've been in!
I was physically drained after that day! My voice was gone for a good few days.
Was even smiling during my flight back the next day (although that could have been to do with the upgrade I got!)

reading comments on here just reminds me so much....
it was a beautiful sunny day, we were out in force, it was almost just to perfect....
so it became obvious that we would lose....
especially after that mark spencer scored the opener....

As mad as it sounds, yes. However, there were others who travelled further than me!

I couldn't go, it was my grandsons christening that day (it was a difficult choice though) but did manage to leave early and watched it in a local pub with my family, wonderful memories.

My son was six, it was his first rovers game What a debut, ! Amazing day out with son, daughter, father and brother in law Sons next match was following season v Chesham in the cup 😂😂 He has not looked back tho, second season coming up with an ST UTG My lad's first game was at the Millennium stadium against Doncaster. He was 7. Really enjoyed it. Got pics of him posing with the mounted police women (I'm sure I'll get pulled up for that). 2nd game was a couple of months later at Wembley for play off against Shrewsbury. 3rd game was the first home game the following season at the Mem. I could actually feel the disappointment on his face - Millennium Stadium, Wembley, Mem!! Still, he's been a season ticket holder ever since.

Fair play Qatargas, I can't fault it! Glory hunter. 😉 Yeah you could say that! Rather annoying being away and missing some of the best seasons we've ever had! Ironically the first season ticket I had was was the nearly season 17 years ago and now we've had our best season since then. The other side is I was rather glad to be away when we got relegated. Apart from a few other expat fans who support lower league clubs nobody knows who we are in this part of the world so I managed to avoid a lot of the grief and dispare I would have faced being back at home!

My day at the time was that I was a manager of a Betting shop in South Bristol and finished work at 10pm the night before the game.
I don't like ques, so I decided to book a 4am national express coach to London from Bristol bus station to get to there early.
As my friends were either going by other means of transport, or didn't have tickets by me - I choose, instead of going home to knowle from work ( yes, I was working and was living in shitsville at the time 😄) I choose to get the early bus to londontown.
However...
I went for a few beers on my own in broadmead after work, and then to kill some time, I brought a 3D ticket to watch Mad max in Cabot circus. Problem was, I was the only person watching the film at 3am in the cinema apart from this Asian couple... that I'm sure were worried about me being a murderer, as I was failing asleep and snoring during the whole film as it was shittttttt!!!!!! 😄 - and I had been awake since 6am that day.
I got to London.Went to Leicester square for breakfast and a few beers. Both Gasheads and Grimsby fans there at 9am.
Then I made my way to Wembley and grabbed a few beers from the sainsburys near the ground. All I remember was gasheads grabbing crates of beer, and walking to the end of the que that was so long it was going outside the entrance, and then gasheads looking around - then walking off without paying! 😂
Onto the game.Never had I ever been more nervous then before this game in my life. All I wanted was for us to cross that line and win..
I always join in the singing, but on this day I was on the top tier right behind the goal at our end, Sitting on my own - Starting my own chants.I remember people looking at me as if I was a nutter! 😄
But my uncle (Bernard Hall played for our club in the 1960's. My late father was a gashead thru and thru. We had to win as for our club, it was the difference between life and death....Then the manse...!
I went home, never as horsed-voiced as I was.For the next week I couldn't honestly talk. But I was so proud, that as a club we had done it - and we were back.
The rest is history..
