Could Exeter's David Wheeler be a realistic target to play on the left wing?
I know he has always played on the right but DC likes his left sided player to have a decent right foot so as he can cut in and have shots on goal, like Bodin does on the other side.
Wheeler has scored 21 goals this season and I was impressed with him in the play off final. He showed a good turn of pace and won everything in the air; creating numerous decent chances for his teammates.
He's 26 so you'd probably consider him to be in the best years of his career.
Not sure what his contract situation is or how much he'd cost but he's one I hope is on DC's radar.

Yes I mentioned his name a couple of weeks ago. I think he'd be an excellent signing whether we keep hold of Bodin or not. According to the site below he is now out of contract, and considering he's coming from Exeter, you wouldn't think he'd demand a stupid amount of money. If they'd have got promoted he probably would've stayed but seen as they stayed down you would think he'd be after a move to League One. Fits the bill perfectly in my opinion. www.transfermarkt.co.uk/david-wheeler/profil/spieler/104167

Hearing all this, I am convinced we will sign him.

I'd love us to sign Wheeler, but reckon he'd cost quite a bit.

Has another year left on his contract. Would cost at least half-a-mil.
Out of our price range.

I just tried to research because like pirate says transfermarkt isn't always correct. But I couldn't really find anything. It seems like Exeter have a similar policy to DC in that they don't like to disclose the length of a contract when one is signed.

500k might be a bit much for a 26 year old who has never played above L2.
I personally think we could get him for 250-300k, particularly if he is keen to play in L1 and if that was the case I believe it would be money well spent.
He seems to tick all the boxes.
We play a lot of diagional balls forward and Wheeler won every single header when Exeter did the same at Wembley on Sunday.

But I guess as he lives in Brizzle if Bristol City or Rovers came in with a good personal offer and a decent fee for the Club they'd be tempted to take it. And Tis would I'm sure not stand in his way in those circumstances"

One issue i have with the op and signing wheeler is that he is a right-winger. You have a guy who has done really well and scored lots of goals in that position so for me the last thing you want to do is play him out of position!

Yes lives in Bristol believe his wife/partner in NHS. A bright lad and I would think just the sort DC would be interested in but at the right price. Exeter will look to sell if Watkins for a crazy price so might not be in a rush to release Wheeler.
I also like Shay McCartan at Accrington

Cantankerous - 3 million Watkins and 500,000 Wheeler - come on - this is crazy crazy money for L2 - can you think of some comparable fees for L2 players in recent seasons ? i'd say more likely 200/300,000 for Watkins and half that for Wheeler. After all, Taylor went for 300,000 and he was 2nd top scorer in L1 !!

Seen him about 4 or 5 times this season and every time he's been class. Hard working, good in the air, creates and scores goals. He's predominantly right footed but decent with both and could do a job on the left in my opinion.
