During the committee meeting, Conservative Councillor John Geater said: “As a proud Gashead, I’m extremely disappointed in the community engagement, because I expected a lot better from a club like that which I consider at the root of the community.” Labour Cllr Chris Jackson added: “Building something before getting planning permission, and the way residents have been treated with this is awful. I’m really disappointed in the club for not doing better with the local community. To start building something before getting planning permission is ridiculous.” www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-news/bristol-rovers-new-stand-saga-8911319Remind me again how Labour we're fully behind this development?

I've said it before, if the owners don't have what the club need to be brought forward why buy a football club? Has Wael sold the club to someone who also can't take the club forward. The stadium is the elephant in the room, the weak link, it NEEDS serious amount of work, not just patching up. I find it really difficult to understand why there are some on here that think a patch up job will do. I sort of get football is luck, we could have a good season in the Mem as it is and we've made it to the Championship, but it is not sustainable. I guess some people are just happy if we have that odd good season, a few cup matches...no aspirations to much else. Is football outside the Premiership sustainable? Looking at the annual deloitte report for 2022, only 4 teams made a pre tax profit. Only one team (West Brom) made an operating profit. You would hope that the new owners understand this, its the sad state of non Premier league football. Really have to ask the question of any owner in the football league the question of "Why do they do it?" Kieran Maguire (of price of football fame) says: In my book, I wrote that there are four reasons to own a football club – profit, vanity, insanity and love. Have to agree with him on that one, question is which reason is it our owners have bought Rovers?

Future ExpansionI would be very disappointed if they did'nt plan for future expansion. Looking at UK city's of equal size around the country, They have two or three stadiums bigger that the two that Bristol has. A stadium is community asset & I would be going toe to toe with the planners about the Infrastructure getting to & from the stadium. That's not down to the stadium user. Looking at Numerous stadiums the land at the Mem is more than Big enough for 40K stadium. Specifically looking at the Redevelopment I would like to dream to see the following over the next 10 years: Phase 1 - Underway New South Stand Phase 2 - New East Stand at Pitch Level but the front of the new stand at the back of the current terrace. Capacity 7500 to 9000 Phase 3 - Move Pitch towards the new east Stand (width of Current Terrace). Phase 4a - Extend "New" South stand Finishing about Level with the back of the current East Stand Terrace. Capacity Approx 3500 Phase 4 - New North Stand Two Tier. Capacity 5000 to 6000 Phase 5 - New East Stand full length of the Pitch But Starting about where 10 m inside the current Pitch lines because we have moved the West stand over: Capacity 7500 to 9000 All of course with the bars & corporate facilities. Doing it this way you you could get to a capacity of between 23500 & 27500. If the Owners were brave they could have the capacity they desire. As they say "Build it and they will come" In Bristol as I see it (Ie the old county of Avon - Bristol, South Glos & North Somerset) There are a Million People. Even if you you went for the most adventurous numbers here you would only be accounting for seating of less than 6% of the population across AG & The Mem. Unfortunately any planning application of this type will require a travel plan, the one for the South Stand needed one and that wasn't changing the capacity much. Bumping up the capacity as we are planning, means we'll need to have a plan in place. This is the clubs responsibility and no one else's. As mentioned elsewhere our six fingered friends put on shuttle busses to the park and ride for example.

Before Plymouth redeveloped the Mayflower stand, they had the hospitality off-site and ferried the prawn sandwich brigade to the ground after.
Could we do this in the carpark behind the east stand? A fit for purpose hospitality block with the club how underneath?
I've absolutely no idea how this works in practice, but to my mind that frees up the space in the east stand for more bar space or changing rooms or something else?

Seats can come down to pitch level and a new roof section could be easily supported by the two new end sections. The new seats in front of the old stand do not have to be a continuation of the angle of the old seats but lower and the same with the two new end sections. No doubt it can be done that way, whether it will be we will have to wait and see the new plans. If the roof comes further forward then doubt main flood lights that side won't work. More expense. How are you so convinced that the current roof can be extended forward, supported by new stands? Extended stands would both need things like toilets added. No need for extra toilets in the east stand, just go on the floor like most people do. You need a pair of waders going in at half time most weeks!

The forum seems to have taken on a rather nasty tone, with personal vendettas being acted out on almost every thread. Such a shame as it used to be my "go to" place to keep up with what's going on at Rovers. Yep. Do you mind taking it to PM guys? No mates, no weapons

Big difference from the sofa & in the stands, but what do I know with gasheads booing all around me😂🤷🏻♂️ Strangely there were also loud boos at Collins second half when he missed an easy pass through for Martin to be one on one. I'm defo getting the feeling that Collins is becoming a bit of a scapegoat at the moment. Sat in the West Stand (for a change) for the Whitby game and the couple behind me were saying we should sell Collins and I quote "get someone decent in". Its a sentiment I've heard in the East Stand where I normally sit too.

First time at the Madejski for me, looking forward to this one! Anyone know which pub we're going to get kettled into? Don’t think there’s any pubs near the stadium, I’m guessing most of us will be drinking close to the station beforehand. I'll pack some extra cans in that case!

no but plenty of local residents who have built extensions, lofts illegal drop down kerbs and garden offices without the relevant paperwork and planning approval. Funnily enough now complaining about the football club progressing doing things the right way If you've got evidence of that, then send it into the council and they will order them to tear down those extensions/pull out the drop kerbs and demolish the garden offices! That will show them!

You don't read my questions do you?. I clearly stated " revamped or modernised ". Its obvious I'm not talking about a brand new stadium in a community. Its inevitable that a macro project involving years of assessments and investigation is much bigger. In regards your second point . All will be decided at the council meeting. This is why we need an objective group of councillors who will make the decision independently. If the councillors think the planning application is unsuitable that is democracy. Its been dragging on too long now and a decisions needs to be made with both sides of the argument. All will be revealed and we will all know what each Councillor voted on in the minutes . Of course I Support and feel the vocal minority will never ever be happy . You think different. This is why it needs to go to a vote! I do read your questions, but revamped/modernised can mean a lot of things, hence I gave the example of the development around AG. If that doesn't fall into modernisation then thats fine. Do you want to have a stab at answering my question?

For sure but that was to build an entire football stadium in an established community. My question was revamped / modernised excisting. No one can provide any evidence a football club have had experience of 'groups' 'protesting'about a stand. I'm still waiting ?. You're moving the goalposts here. Also back to our six fingered friends, they are currently in a dispute with ETM about redeveloping around AG: www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-news/ashton-gate-sporting-quarter-hold-8761331I'll turn that question round, can you name any other team that have started work on a new stand without PP or consulting the locals?

...or did they just support the Mem remaining as a sporting venue (and suggest they would support improvements) when it suited them, and are now aware any public opposition using those same names/groups would look hypocritical...? So they've probably already objected personally and I'm sure we'll see a new group with a new name opposing developments at the ground, but there will be suspiciously familiar names and faces pulling the strings... Speaking of objections, reading through the most recent ones it seems there is a coordinated pushback over biodiversity and the report submitted about it in the planning application. I think we can safely assume this will be their focus during the committee meeting and whilst at face-value it seems laughable, I don't care enough/don't know enough to judge if they have a point - as far as I can see we will lose 0.07 hectares of grass because of the pitch move, but we will better maintain the area behind the SW corner (between the stands and the gardens) meaning more wildlife will grow/live there, meaning we have an overall biodiversity net gain of 10.58% - which is good as the target for developments like this are I believe to be 10%... This is why I keep reminding people this is the 4th protest group since we arrived at the Memorial stadium. I made a statement which I still hold that no football club have experienced the prejudice wè have . I simply asked anyone on this forum if they can name one just one protest group in the entire south / west from Bournemouth to Yeovil who have developed / revamped in the last 10 years or more . I'm still waiting !. Only have to look at our friends south of the river for one: www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-bristol-17582992

If we're throwing out names like Fowler and Terry, I'll chuck in Campbell.
Did an amazing job at Macclesfield keeping them in the league, despite late wages, winding up petitions and all the manic off-field stuff.
Went to Southend to try and do the same fire fighting job, working under a transfer embargo, etc. Didn't manage it and had a terrible record there in the end.
Apart from that, no obvious black marks to his name apart from being a bit weird, but aren't we all?
