Playing Devil's Advocate here, it seems that a couple of times recently for different teams, new players have been training with their new clubs prior to the official announcement of their signing so that photo could have been taken a day or 2 ago. Although that being said, the photo doesn't look like anything is imminent, either with ourselves or Derby!

For me, if you have professional players, the game should be managed by a professional referee.
Whilst I know there is not the pool for this at the moment, there is enough money in the game to gradually push this through. Of course it will not eliminate all the problems but if we can get referees up to a better standard by offering them full time positions whereby they can be trained more, get more experience and turn it into a career then it can surely only be beneficial.
At the moment, there is not enough accountability and as JB says, he may get an apology but that doesn't give you the points back that you may have lost from a game if a wrong decision is made. And we all know how tight the league can be and how much difference a point or 2 can make, Instead, you will see the same referee making similar bad decisions in a different fixture the following week.
I am not sure VAR is feasible at the moment due to the costs involved but professional referees should and could be a start to improving what seems to be some dreadful officiating at the moment and that also only seems to be on a downward trend.

Aren't a lot of the rumours saying that if you add on the money that Posh owe us and then any performance related add ons then the deal would be £1m+?

The record at home since January is as follows W2 D4 L7 It looks far worse since New Years Day as it is W1 D4 L7. Bet Lincoln can't wait for Saturday after last season. Still, it'll be interesting to see when we eventually win at home again... [playing devil's advocate here] At least it won't be a centre back partnership of Hoole and Whelan this time...

Well it would be fantastic if true. I keep telling myself this won't happen as I don't want to be dissapointed come the end of the week if there isn't some fancy new social media video following him signing. However, a lot of things seem to be aligning and I am starting to believe this may be possible. - Posh have transfer listed him. - We have new owners/investors who it appears may be willing to spend some money. - JCH still has a lot of links to the area by the sounds of it. - Barton says we are interested in him. - Posh owe us a bit of money. It would not be the Bristol Rovers we have known in the past if we start spending nearly £1m on a player but this is very much starting to look possible and I am starting to get excited by the whole thing. I know the squad hasn't performed brilliantly in the last couple of games but a signing of the calibre of JCH would give everyone another lift and we would probably have the strongest squad with some real strength in depth that I have known in my time watching Rovers. I do not buy into this "he wouldn't fit into our style of play" rubbish as he is probably the best and most consistent striker in L1 over the last few seasons and whilst he might not be the quickest, he can score from anywhere within 25 yards of goal, he can hit them with his left foot, right foot and head them as well as the odd spectacular overhead kick. And when he played for us, whilst it might not have been the interchangeable fluid front line we see now under Barton, he still popped up in both channels and allowed wide players to come inside of him and I see no reason why he couldn't do the same in this side at all. Fully agree with all of that. Other thing I'll say - and this isn't directed at you as literally everyone says the same thing - "fluid" front line..... how many goals has that got us? "Fluid" front line and zero goals Or less mobile front line and goals galore Might be worth considering! Completely agree. Stick JCH through the middle with Brown just behind him and 2 out of Collins, Sinclair and Thomas out wide and that should be an exciting attacking force with plenty of goals in it. No need for them to keep interchanging and that focal point in attack who is also capable of getting 20 a season is what we have been missing. I think Marquis has done well as that focal point and we have played some good football with him in the side but if you can replace him in the team with someone who will also get you 20+ goals as well as the hold up play then it is a very exciting prospect. Let the wide players and Brown do the running around JCH.

I like Finley and he has been an integral part of a couple of decent seasons for us but I was surprised when Barton made him captain this season as for me, I am not even sure he makes the squad if everyone was fit. It seems Barton this season favours a 4-2-3-1 and I would rather have Ward, Woods (on paper at least), Bogarde, Evans and Rossiter ahead of him in those 2 deeper midfield spots.
I am not saying he has actively caused us to drop points this season as from memory, I don't think he has at all. However, with other partnerships in there, I think we could do so much better, particularly offensively. He was part of an incredible season a couple of years ago which finished with the 7-0 win but we can not live on sentiment if we truly want to be a top L1 club with promotion aspirations.

Just passing on what I know from someone who was correct about the Woods signing in advance. Rovers have agreed a deal for JCH with Peterborough. £825,000 + add ons. Huddersfield and Derby were offered him at £1 million but turned down the chance to sign him. Bolton were always sure of re-signing Charles and were never in the hunt. We've got him a bit cheaper as we are owed an installment from his previous transfer. JCH is keen and wants to move back this way, he is also taking a fairly decent sized pay cut. With paperwork, medical and socials, club are hoping to get the deal done Wednesday or Thursday in advance of the last minute panic of deadline day. With all the speculation around JCH, signing a defensive midfielder was always going to be a bit of an anti-climax. However, this is a fantastic signing. Woods is a player in his prime with over 270 Championship appearances, 28 of which came last season and he should boss L1 with Hull fans saying he is a solid Championship midfielder.
A midfield of Woods and Ward with Brown just in front them is very very good in L1, and with Bogarde, Evans and Finley to back them up, we have some real strength in depth.

Just for perspective City paid £1m for Lee Trundle in 2007 (16 years ago) Obvs don’t follow the six fingered twats but what’s their record transfer fee they have paid ? I think I remember hearing they paid £8m for Kalas a few years ago. Not sure if that is their record though.

Where did you get 780 from, I can’t seem to find that anywhere? 🤷♂️ The 780 figure was tweeted by Bristol Rovers as per my above post! Not sure why that is so wildly different to what A&S have stated.

I can see this as a Whelan type signing (albeit in a completely different position). He won't be the first name on the team sheet but someone towards the end of their career who is a great option off the bench depending on what you are looking for, brings some top level experience into the squad and someone who may do just as much off the pitch as on it, even if he isn't a natural leader.
I don't think he will be on huge wages and I am really excited and looking forward to seeing him back at the Mem.
