For me if this new stadium idea is done I'm pretty much done with new stadium plans. The FM is the best option we will ever have for a stadium with potential for good transport links and some kind of organic surroundings. Most other options now are going to be Reading like and car reliant and I'd rather stay at the Mem than have that.

It's a forum, the discussion can go wherever the contributors take it and (unless the mods say otherwise) from time to time sub-topics will thrive or quickly disappear. Is Lucas relevant to the South Stand? No Is the party she is a key member of and clearly has influence over relevant to the South Stand? Absolutely. So she's not off-limits unless the mods say it's too far off-topic... ...if it was Labour or the Conservative councillors delaying the planning permission, I'm sure Starmer and Sunak would discussed.... It's ok to go off topic (sometimes the mods then move the discussion elsewhere as they could here) but I'm not here to chat about Green party politics or defend one MP against the charge of being privately educated in a country that has had 20 (20) Prime Ministers educated not just privately but at the exact same school. Also Labour ARE involved in this and I'm not giving you my view of Starmer nor is anyone else. Fair enough if you want to moan about the Greens/ environmental activists and 'hypocrisy' but I'm currently with those just waiting on new photo updates.

Personally, I'm waiting to see what happens and until then not much more to say. Meanwhile, this has turned into a conversation about the educational background of an MP from a different city. Really? 7 posts mentioning Lucas in 195 pages, doesn’t seem like a lot to me. More whataboutery and misdirection, eh? 'turned into'

Worth reading Gorringe's latest comments. Happy to hold my hands up if I'm wrong but they don't sound like those of someone waiting for the opportunity to say 'everything would have been fine and without issue if it wasn't for those medaling Greens'. Sure the planning process is about getting things built but it's also about a load of really boring form filling and checks which while frustrating are also necessary. Feel like I'm just going to round in circles on this but delaying and objecting to building plans is not what drives the party or it's members and I'm confident that's not what this current case is about and they will be as happy as anyone once the stand is up and running. As I say I could be proved wrong but all will become clearer over the next two to three months. The Greens had no reason to get involved with this, yet they choose to. The experience with Sainsbury's just shows delay and blocking is their objective. I don't see what positive they bring to the table. I'm sure I won't change your mind and you're not going to change mine. The thing I'm glad of is the stand is getting built in spite of the greens best efforts With you on the changing of minds. However, it's not objective to say the Greens had no reason to get involved. The counsellor did have quite a clear and obvious reason to get involved in this. What her actual motivations are depends on what you believe but there's nothing hugely surprising about a counsellor of any political persuasion responding in this way. This application being likely to get called in was just another thing the club didn't factor into their time line.

Surprisingly Finley today was fine . Previously he has made errors leading to shots or goals to the opposition. At risk at repeating myself...we need to keep clean sheets. Wycombe were dogshit but were effective when it counted. Rovers over play thing's. Take the least amount of passes necessary to take a shot on goal....its worked for a hundred years.9 shots on goal = 3 on target = 1 goal Its that Dam simple. Crack on Joe ,you have good enough players from now on its on your shoulders. If reverting to a Charles Reep inspired style of play is what's needed then it would have to involve a new manager as this would represent a total reversal for Barton.

Reading this thread you'd be forgiven for believing the Greens invented planning permission. No, but they are masters of protest, obstruction and delay. I wonder if anywhere where greens have control and are not the protest party they have actually delivered anything. Or if there is any development they haven't objected to or delayec This latest debacle has reminded me what they're like. The planning process is meant to be about getting things built not trying to stop everything and anything. The greens treat it like that though. Worth reading Gorringe's latest comments. My concern after that is that we have been beaten on so many occasions now by poor sides employing exactly the same strategy and we continue to fail in exactly the same way. I saw little today to indicate that this won't keep happening. That said I'd still rather have the foundations this squad have than watch a team like Wycombe who have zero potential to evolve and improve. You think we do? Different players, same result. How many games have we won at home since Christmas 2022? At some point is someone at the club going to ask Barton wtf are you doing! I was really looking forward to today thinking, stupidly, that Barton will show us he knows what he is doing. As soon as I saw Finley picked and Evans dropped to the bench, I feared the worse. And so it came to pass. So disappointing, different players, same outcome. Ah well. I think of you have foundations of a possession passing game you have the potential to improve. That we're not is a failure to build on that potential.

You make it sound like its a personal crusade, she's raising the issues on behalf of her constituents, which is her job. If the club came out and said they submitted everything, then I'd be looking for the planning department to be the source of truth, I'm sure the full facts will come out when this goes to committee in October. We're not going to agree on this, but I *hope* we're over the hump in terms of challenges to getting this stand open! Is it really on behalf of her constituents? Looks to me that virtually everyone agrees this minor improvement to a temporary structure is going to get passed. All she’s tried to do is frustrate and delay the process which is what the Greens in Bristol seem to be all about. I don’t believe for one minute that causing delays and stirring up long term resentment is in the interest of her constituents - it just seems a vendetta and in-built DNA that all the greens possess. As has been pointed out it would be extremely unusual for a planning application with over 200 objections not to go to committee. You never know having had it called in early may actually be doing us a favour here. At best lots of things have delayed this process the Green intervention being just one. Being Gasheads stadium issues are one of the most emotive for us and there is obviously a big history with Sainsburies and the JR with the Greens. (TBH the ONLY thing that made me 100% in favour of building a supermarket on the Mem site was the prospect of a new stadium). The Greens almost certainly need to build a better understanding/ sensitivity to the history of the club and just how much this stuff means to us. But likewise we need to be a little less cynical and not confuse Green party politics for ill intent toward the club or sports in the city in general. This particular case is nothing like the scale of the previous one and talk of vendettas and a fetish for delaying things is seriously misplaced IMO. I'd like to see Rovers in a stadium that befits the City and the size of the club and I'd also like to see, for example - nationalised water, sewage free beaches and efficient and fair planning processes. Whatever your politics these things should not be incompatible. I'm looking forward to the game tomorrow and seeing the new stand built and a possible new attendance record in the near future.

That is one of the things that is meant to be thought about as part of the planning process. This the feedback from the "Sustainable City Team" aka council employees, not a politician. The following policies should be addressed through submission of an energy and sustainability statement.
BCS14
In addition, it should be noted that the roofs are perfectly angled to support a significant PV installation. The installation of PV at the same time as construction would likely be cheaper than putting it on retrospectively since scaffolding could be shared. A PV roof (where the whole roof is made from PV so as to reduce overall material use) could also be considered.
Danack I know you like data to back up evidence . So I compiled a list of the top 9 cities in England ( except of course London ) as that would be unfair. I'm talking about ground capacities. Feel free to check. Birmingham. Brum F.C 29409 : Villa 42640 Liverpool . Liverpool 53394 : Everton 52888 Notts . Forest 30445 : County 20221 Sheffield. United 32050 : Wedns 34835 Bristol City 27000 :# Rovers 12100 # currently reduced to 7900 but faces delays due to intervention by Green (Target 12500) Leicester City 32261 Leeds United 37890 Cardiff City 33280 This is the top 9 cities in England in order with Bristol 6th ( 5th if you denounce London). As you can see the local lobbyists haven't really had it that bad in comparison ?. Most of these exist away from major residential areas or have been large stadiums for a significantly long time. Where residential issues exist others have moved to alternatives. Liverpool has seen a significant expansion and is in a highly residential area but I'm not sure their treatment of local residents and area is anything to celebrate.

My impression, especially after some of the worst performances last season, is that we need to do a lot of training trying to break down teams who are happy to surrender possession.

Honestly, most of all this is just red tape and procedure and with a bit of help from the Labour Party it’s turned into ‘I hate tree huggers’ hysteria. If the Greens try and block this ever being built on environmental grounds I’d be annoyed - but they probably can’t and they won’t because those reasons don’t exist and they have no other reason to do so. If we’re judging the Greens on the JR and Sainsburies maybe at least we can look at the history of our club and admit it maybe having made a bit of a cock up. So they’re just needlessly delaying things then ? That’s why people are annoyed No they’re following procedure and responding to issues with process. It’s frustrating but I’m optimistic it will be sorted before too long.

Yes the Greens are opposing this stand. A Green councillor has called it in to be decided by a committee, despite it being just a slightly larger replacement for an existing structure that has the same purpose in the same location. ...but No, the Greens are not the arch-villains of Bristol Rovers over the last 30 years. They're the arch-villains of Bristol Rovers over the last 15 years......I actually think the phrase arch-villains works quite well for the Greens against Bristol Rovers - they hide behind different faces and different group names (often the same general group holds contradictory positions via different public appearances just to stop any progress being made)....they meticulously plan their actions to cause the most disruption for the longest period of time...they hide their funding...and they don't have a serious long-term plan, they just want to cause disruption and delays to those who are working towards a better future.... That’s because they won’t be happy until we all live in sustainable mud huts, walk or ride horses and are eating bugs; not them, of course, that’s just for the peasants (ie us). Probably worth reading up on Green Party politics in terms of actual policies.

You absolutely have the right to draw your own conclusions I’m saying I don’t share them and see the current situation differently as a result. People are also saying others are wrong and ill informed (and acting in bad faith/ lying) and that’s the discussion taking place. So if you don't share our views . Why pretend the Greens are being helpful and willing to resolve things for our benefit ?. I accept the Greens stance in supporting every group formed to oppose every application ( history is important). But why pretend ? I’m not pretending though. I genuinely think there is nothing worrying in this instance about motivations and I don’t believe the history of conflict here changes that. The delays appear to be down to many things beyond this intervention and I believe the stand will ultimately get built as there are no legitimate objections beyond the way the club have gone about it. Once the hurdles are addressed it should go to plan and we can all enjoy what looks to be a really positive season with some decent crowds.

There’s a lot of projection going on here about the Greens essentially being driven by a desire to screw the club - and also being generally terrible, snobbish people. I just think this distracts from an ability to objectively criticise where counsellors and local residents have and have not been reasonable now or in the past. In this specific case I don’t think representing local residents is the same as backing them/ being against the stand and Itruat the counsellor on her word on this. We may all want representing at some point and I’m glad this function isn’t being ignored by our elected officials. But if you think they are simply waiting for the first opportunity to delay stuff then it will seem different. Maybe at least then recognise the club and the council planning backlog in contributing so successfully to their cause. For the record I’m in no way active but generally support the Greens and have supported Rovers for 33 years (even remember once dreaming of Severnside) Why does it distract ?. The Greens have backed and objected on every single application the club have made. As I stated you have every right to back : fund : and use delay tactics to win local battles. What people find annoying is that you are trying to 'spin it' as being caring : co-operative and helpful to the club. Also I think it is patronising that you are telling us we are wrong or ill-informed given the history. We are allowed to have an opposing view in a democratic system !. You absolutely have the right to draw your own conclusions I’m saying I don’t share them and see the current situation differently as a result. People are also saying others are wrong and ill informed (and acting in bad faith/ lying) and that’s the discussion taking place.
