I think the government are right to get as many areas of life back to as near normality as possible and for me that includes schools and universities. I think the government and the universities themselves have made it as safe as possible to return and the teaching environments should be pretty safe. I don’t blame the students in an aggressive type of way and I guess you could perhaps say the government were naive if they thought most students would not have close contact social activity which they expect as part of their uni experience. Like I said before though the risk of spreading from students to vulnerable groups is probably extremely low and there would have been uproar from students if they had been denied the opportunity of a normal university experience rather than one done virtually from the box room at the parents home. Thinking about it students moving away from home, mixing primarily with other healthy young people and being distanced from elderly relatives could even be helping their families from being badly affected? The scientists who are calling for relaxed lockdown and development of some herd immunity have expressed the need to protect the most vulnerable so whilst I get your point on copy cat behaviour if one group crack on with things it should all come down to the quality of communication. Perhaps something really hard hitting showing how despite having little in the way of themselves young people can kill those close to them if they pass it on, I did see a Scottish one which was good. The elderly and vulnerable should be able to protect themselves. If the young and healthy were going about their lives, working and socialising, although spreading the virus to others less susceptible to severe illness they shouldn’t necessarily cause damage to the communities most likely to die or become hospitalised. For example if you yourself were 75 years old and suffered with a long standing respiratory illness how would you go about protecting yourself? You can still go shopping, social distancing as much as possible, wearing a decent quality mask and using hand sanitizers at every opportunity. If you had young family members (not living with you of course) that were getting on with life you would limit meeting them to telephone, video calls and outdoor distanced conversations. The care home situation was an obvious disaster and lessons have been learned, we should be able to prevent the virus getting back in there with regular testing of staff now taking place, no issues with PPE and staff being very aware to take care away from their workplace. There is certainly no reason for a uni student with the virus to be in any sort of position to then transfer it to a care home. On a positive note I did see on the bbc website this morning some trials are taking place on a vaccine used for other illnesses since the 1920’s. Fingers crossed this could be an effective interim form of vaccine before a Covid specific one can be found in the not too distant future. The problem with these sort of generalisations is that they tend to gloss over the issues. Much of what you say Eric is a bit of a wish list, but without a properly functioning Test Track & Trace system none of it will work, so the virus will just spread everywhere, as indeed we are finding out. The vaccine you refer to is the BCG vaccine which almost all of us have had to combat Tuberculosis. My understanding is that it provokes a more general immune response (I am sure OB will correct me if wrong). For example my brother received a large dose directly into his bladder to combat cancer. Its a bit of a shot in the dark and not one to base policy upon, in my opinion. Is that the one which, hurt like feck for weeks and has left a scar or lump on the arm up near the shoulder if so i'm now officially hiding

Yep was about to say, agree with Eric’s entire post, apart from the point about no exceptions. However councils should allocate badges or something IMO. Not sure you could rely on councils. Was it Liverpool years ago where nearly all the adult population had a disabled parking badge? You could potentially ask GP’s to provide some certification but how realistic is that with their workload? At the moment I just think there has to be zero tolerance, to allow a free for all where you rely on someone’s own words to avoid wearing a mask cannot be allowed to happen. How long before more and more choose not to bother knowing there will be no challenge or request for certification? Unfortunately although there maybe a tiny number who genuinely can’t wear a mask a complete adherence must be in place for the greater good. Eric a gp will give you a contact number for help if you are genuinely ill, the issue with this is some volunteer's are absolutely fantastic, others are a nightmare, sometimes you drop off the radar and as such dont get help for a while. People need to go out even if it just for a walk or whatever , if you can't wear a mask. If only you could see the effect of wearing a mask on someone who cant wear them, you might change your mind. does the greater good mean people dying because they cant mask up, where others meet in large groups. People still wandering round in groups need sorting

Total waste of time, what happens when you break curfew or wander outside of the area you are aloud to go wearing a tracker, I'll tell you sweet fanny ann, It's difficult at present to lock people up as many prisons are on an extended type of lockdown, so that options out, besides can you imagine someone locked up for breaking covid rules ,then catching covid inside, i bet you a pound to a bag of dung they will sue and will win. 10k fines that's going to be collected how. Going to have to disagree with id you should be free to conduct your lawful business without the need for id, Id is the start of an already slippery slope I didn't mention sending people to prison (although that was threatened in South Korea) I'm highlighting what measures have been used for track and trace in Korea and how would the British people react if such measures were implemented in the UK. Can you imagine someone getting a phone call and being told they were tracked via CCTV or through their card usage. How do we collect the £10,000 fines from people who repeatedly break quarantine rules.... issue an attachment of earnings order from the courts to their employer, or reduce their benefits. It may take many years to pay but the thought of it just may stop people breaking the law. I wholeheartedly agree with you that we should be free to conduct our lawful business without the need for ID. But you hit the nail on the head with lawful, are the people giving false names and addresses being lawful? If for only a few months ..6 at the most.. people had to produce ID and confirmation of address during this pandemic to go to the pub or restaurant we may just come out the other side far earlier. I was just illustrating the outcomes of either trackers in the uk or large fines. Easily dodged, if your fined and just ignore it eventually the court will catch up with you and offer you the chance to pay up or get locked up many choose lock up as you don't get long inside and if your lucky enough to get sent down close to a uk holiday your sentence is reduced big time. Attachments to earnings no good as a lot of people will just get laid off so everyone else ends up paying. It also unlikely that the police will do anything about it as they only ever go after soft targets those who will just do as they are told. so i think the only real answer is let these people carry on eventually they will all win a darwin award

I know someone who has no family locally (sister live Sussex way) ,cannot get out much due to very bad anxiety , cannot cover her mouth in any way shape of form, cannot leave the house on her own, her hubby can wear a mask but for short periods only due to claustrophobia, who was nearly drowned as a kid so can get flashbacks and then the panic sets in. They were given a number by their doc to get help with shopping, that went well until the person who was helping had to go back to their proper job, someone else took over and only visited once, never to be seen again(nah they aint buried under the patio just yet).
They only get out about twice a month to get electric, and buy some bread at the local shop, (feckin luxury when you get 2 loaves a month). Get online shopping when there's a slot mainly from Iceland, (sh**e quality but hey its food).
Once a week they get a visit from a care worker, who gives his time freely to help ,he's become more family than a visitor, wonderful dude. It's difficult to ask him to got to the shops etc as the couple feel ashamed that they are this way.
so is the answer to keep me n mrs indoors and not to go out to get food etc because a mask cant be worn, Oh and believe me for some its f**king difficult to lip read someone wearing a mask
Not having pop just giving you a scenario where someone cant wear a mask

Just in case you missed it, as I did, as of tomorrow, if you're in a pub and not seated at a table, you need to wear a mask. £200 fine for those that don't. Talking to the Manager here at my local, she's not looking forward to that as the amount of abuse she's had from those being asked to track & trace has brought several bar staff to tears already. Come on people, it's a name and number, it takes 10 seconds. I really do not understand the mentality of the anti maskers. If they or any member of their family was admitted to hospital (for any reason) would they expect the doctors and nurses to wear PPE including masks to protect them and their patients. If the answer is yes then why the hell can't they ? If our NHS workers can wear masks for hours on end then why is so difficult for some people to wear one in a shop , pub, train for a limited time. We recently in our local town 7-8000 people had 5 cases. The first during the whole pandemic. They were all mild symptoms with no one hospitalised. During the track and trace of all their contacts it was mandatory to wear a mask everywhere in town, including just walking in the streets. Everyone adhered to it and once all the contacts were traced and tested (all of which were negative) the mandatory mask restrictions were lifted. If idiots are not prepared to leave legitimate names and numbers then perhaps we should use the measures implemented by South Korea. Track people via their debit and credit card usage, via ATM withdrawals and via CCTV monitoring. They also (not sure if implemented) use tracking bracelets on people who breached self isolation/quarantine laws. If people think having to wear a mask is a breach of their civil liberties what would they think of the measures used in South Korea. Just a thought who remembers needing ID in pubs if the barman thought you were underage. So why can't we implement your not allowed in the pub / restaurant without ID and something official to confirm your address at least that will stop the Mickey Mouse names given.Total waste of time, what happens when you break curfew or wander outside of the area you are aloud to go wearing a tracker, I'll tell you sweet fanny ann, It's difficult at present to lock people up as many prisons are on an extended type of lockdown, so that options out, besides can you imagine someone locked up for breaking covid rules ,then catching covid inside, i bet you a pound to a bag of dung they will sue and will win. 10k fines that's going to be collected how. Bloody hell, don’t come anywhere near London then lads. I’d say about 20% of people don’t even bother at all - that’s in every age group as well tbh. Some of the supermarkets are planning on clamping down - insisting on masks and forcing those without to buy some at the door. Will also have staff at the door to ensure adherence. About time too, whether people like the rules or not they are there for everyone and there should be absolutely no exemptions. Oh dear, Eric will you deliver and shop for those who simply cannot wear masks. not everyone is taking the water by not wearing a mask, some people just cant wear em

As opposed to BLM c*nts setting Cities and Towns on fire, terrorising people, Left, Right & Centre. C'mon Oldie, No need for this propaganda. Armed men in combat uniform with automatic weapons confronting civilians in their cars? All they need is a Swastika on their uniforms...so sad that a once great country has degenerated into this. You actually defending this? Feck me, i dint realise Buddha was such a vicious git

I can't go back, or be bothered to, but I quoted direct action. Danny the Red in Paris, the student protests in London figure headed by Tariq Ali and Baader Meinhoff in Germany. I also said by 1970 we understood what they were all about (BM) and any fantasy we may have had evaporated. I was 18. It's called growing up. I have been honest about it. 1968, for us kids, was a great year. Including btw, the formation of the Bristol Sixth Form Union, and celebratory gig at the Dug Out on Park At, featuring the John Dummer Blues Band. Rammed and the headmistress of the Colston (😱) School for Girls threatend to call the cops for under age entry and drinking. Silly bitch. So you can rant on about the mistakes of a 16 year old if that makes you feel big. Just don't make it up, the honesty I speak is enough, the mistakes on the page. Big Man. So the Headmistress of Colston school was a silly bitch for threatening to call the Police when her underage pupils were in a Sh1thole like the dug out with twats like you filling their heads with your Marxist crap? Id say she was doing nothing less than her duty by protecting her charges and making sure they were safe, and not having their heads filled with revolutionary crap. One law for them another law for us

If there is one thing we should have learnt from the Brexit debacle is that changing something for the sake of it rather than for the better isn't necessarily a good idea. What model are you seeing replacing it? True But, the starting position has to be a democratic system which truly represents the will of the population of the country. An unelected medieval style head of state does not, an unelected body within government does not, a neutered and powerless local administration's, largely dependent upon money from the centre, does not and a selection process for MPs that dictates absolute loyalty to a small party cabal, does not. You made me laugh about being a frustrated 1960s revolutionary, images of Citizen Smith went through my mind. But the real question, is the above true? Hmmm so if we held a vote on the monarchy and the result was that we carry on as normal, would you accept that vote or still try to get another vote going until the results were favourable to you Deja Vue anyone??

Stuart wrote "Funnily enough, Wolfie was exactly who I had in mind when I posted. I can just see you now being driven through Clifton and Sneyd Park in a Scorpion light tank with a bottle of Château la faviere in one hand and a loud haler in the other shouting "Power to the People, via the mechanism of a non binding referendum, whose results will be acted upon requiring a simple majority for domestic law and a two third majority for constitutional or international changes." 🤗" Precisely...I swear Robert Lindsay was miscast, it should have been me😂😂😂 Work with what we inherit...emm. Of course to a point, evolutionary change is always the preferred option, until evolution stops and becomes distorted, which in terms of our system of Government it surely has. Distorted because the cynical use of the monarchy, in particular Elizabeth, as a rallying call to cover incompetence and lies, disables progressive discussion of the problems and solutions, because those solutions may well be to the detriment of established authority. To take the, or one of the, worse and most cynical is the use of Captain Tom by the establishment through the media. The poor guy. He is well into his nineties I believe and here he was on BBC News this morning, suitably adorned with his medals being questioned about his late wife's mental health suffering. It was so painful to watch I flipped channels to ITV, the channel of opioid nonsense, to witness one of the presenters with post it notes stuck all over his face. I felt so sorry for Capt Tom (apologies I cannot recall his surname), chosen to front a new charity at his age, disgraceful really on the part of whoever is setting that up. Later, driving into work, I hear the absolute shambles in our justice system with court cases being adjourned into 2022. Yes Covid is a factor, but this was happening in any evvent as the legal beagles pointed out, especially since 2010 and the austerity induced slashing of budgets. I mention this only because our dear friends in Government announced with some noise yesterday a toughening of sentencing guidelines. Which is a fat a lot of good if defendants cannot be tried in court, worse when there are not enough prison places to hold the guilty. Cue a tough question, whereupon the governing establishment get the media to roll images of Elizabeth and her entourage, especially the grandkids (always a winner with pensioners and people who attend food banks) or now, a slam dunk, roll out poor Capt Tom with a story of his poor long suffering late wife. There bad news on justice buried. That's why, one of the reasons we need change. Court cases are still going ahead although in a different format, many cases are being done via telephone( which is something that hopefully carry on after the lockdown ends, it's way more efficient in the areas it's used in. court appearances are still taking place, but only the worst charges are being dealt with face to face . Yup you are correct silence a war hero who inspired many to donate to his charity, yup silence an old bloke who got off his arse and did something that took peoples mind of the sh** time we are having. Also silence the guy who has an honoury position at the army college, who believe it or not will inspire so many soldiers to not give up and give that final push that makes our forces one of the best in the world, oh yeah nearly forgot silence someone who has experienced mental health from a carers point of view the other side of mental health is one most dont hear about. Heres one for you Capt Tom Moore has inspired many to get them through this difficult time, how many have you inspired or helped cope with what's happening around us

Who wants or has said “get rid of those horrible foreigners”? Keep peddling this myth that everyone who voted Leave is racist if it makes you feel superior. Tis the opposite Eric, people can't see more from the far right voted stay than leave, people don't get it ,they just believe every one they dislike voted leave. The far right these days tend to forge links with likeminded people all, over europe and rely on free passage throughout europe, theres many reasons for this. As i said most don't grasp or understand this as they have already been told that to want to leave you have to be a rcist. Me i just don't like belonging to the Fourth Reich(aka eu). laugh all you want(not you eric) but look where the money came from to form the eu and theres a trail right back to those companies that used slave labour during the war, it apperars we walkied into the thousand year riech with big flufy blinkers

maybe they weren't keen for him to get up. there were also 3 other coppers stood around doing nothing. maybe 1 of those could have help restrain him after Floyd was saying he couldn't breathe Floyd is one thing, but their policing as a whole needs to be reviewd. Much like the guy who I posted above who complied, put his hands on his head and was still kicked to the floor. They thought he was someone he wasn't, what steps did they take to find out? Quite a few maybe’s there. Perhaps the biggest Maybe is people actually do as they are told and not resist the police? All too familiar in today’s society is that scumbags (black and whatever) have no respect for the law. Over here you make a conscious decision about how to react when arrested, kick off you know your going to get hurt, same over there kick off you know your going to get hurt or shot. One thing often overlooked is here or any other country, certain areas are dealt with in differing ways, if one section society reacts say angrily or violently when stopped then the cops are going to deal with it in a certain way, whether its right or not
