It is a weird season. I'm a season ticket holder so go to enough fixtures but I haven't been swept away by many individuals this season...
Perhaps its our good home form and I missed Blackpool- Dembelle got good reviews. I felt the Cheltenham forward was good but other than that I've not been desperate for many opponents players.
Previous seasons I've practically been obsessed with having a player like that...

I think this window is really important.
Get a couple more decent additions and we'll have some decent momentum heading into the summer.

Please not another Barton debate in the middle of a self defined thread.
I get sometimes topics will relate to the previous manager... but surely this should be about current transfer activity?

I thought this was an intersting stat. Devante Cole is the top scorer in League 1 so far with 16 goals. He has had 59 shots in total, and been on target with 28 of them. Aaron Collins has actually had more shots with 61 and more shots on target with 29 than the leagues top scorer. Yet has only scored with 3 of them. Funny old game. You only have to think back to Matty Taylor a prolific scorer for us but he always needed several chances for every one he put in the net. Frustrated me so much when Lee Johnson was purring at his finishing, upon the unvailing. Matty was a brilliant worker. A great link player and adequate finisher, but not great.

Whether we come out of January stronger than we entered- will be interesting.
As much as I like Conteh, I'm not sure were better yet- We have lost 6 players and perhaps Collins to follow. Whilst I do agree with Taylor that the squad was big I'm nervous.
If we end with Smith, Fevrier and Conteh I'd be happy.

We won't sign a full back. We've got 5 and we don't play full backs. Even if Gordon and Gibbons leave we'll have: - Friend - Hunt - Grant - Hoole To cover a position were unlikely to play. Only Hoole is likely to stay fit out of those 4 and he can't play LB and recently has been pretty poor whenever he's played, Wycombe and Blackpool. Still- we don't play full backs.

If MT's signings are all as good as Conteh, then I'd say 3 signings would be enough. RB, CB and LB. If Collins has gone, then we'll need a replacement for him as well. We won't sign a full back. We've got 5 and we don't play full backs. Even if Gordon and Gibbons leave we'll have: - Friend - Hunt - Grant - Hoole To cover a position were unlikely to play.

Probably hard to answer... but intrigued about "punted about" does that mean: - players the club have said- they'd consider allowing to leave. - agents trying to get names about for moves - players enquiries have been of. Collins has been offered about to agents, as was Gibbons, it happens in football all the time. Owners have favourite agents, DOF’s do, it’s a small bubble. Wouldn’t you try and get £50k for Marquis if he’s not being picked by the manager, our of contract in July 1st and on big wages? I am not sure why anyone is surprised by this, Belshaws public declaration that Mangs wanted him back in goal but the board said no tells us it’s about getting wages off the books. Gasdust is the man to ask, gets on well with Peter O’Rourke So we've muted Collins and have rejected bids. This does feel a bit like the haggling scene in Life of Bryan.

Yeah, for someone who knows everything, you aint saying much! Truthfully I don’t ask too much and my main post was last week to defend the manager who was being mucked around. The last I heard was Gibbons and Chelts, he’s now going to Cambridge but I knew his name was being punted around and I heard Marquis was as well. I will ask, and come back if I hear anything. Probably hard to answer... but intrigued about "punted about" does that mean: - players the club have said- they'd consider allowing to leave. - agents trying to get names about for moves - players enquiries have been of.

Both need games.
But you feel like:
Gibbons needs to win a contract somewhere.
Gordon needs to show Matt Taylor what he can do in competitive games.
Gibbons- it hasn't really worked out. Feel there's a good player there. Buy perhaps more suited to back 4.
Gordon became the fall guy for defensive fragility last season. But he had a few superb games- plymouth at home. He kept stepping into midfield ala Phillip Lahm. But hasn't played near that level for a while. Needs confidence

Oxford close to signing Jack Marriott from Fleetwood. One of the rumours I liked for us

Mo Eisa joining Exeter City from MK Dons - would've been a good option for us. Not for me.

Evans is class. Love him. I'd be gutted if he left but couldn't deny he deserves a chance at a higher level. Anything less than 2m I wouldn't accept. I'd be surprised if we got a mil. Great player. Love him but hasn't done the league 1 numbers to get a champ club. Likely would be top league one clubs sniffing.

Antony? He's in contract til 2025... Yeah, but on current form the wolves will be there and give us a decision to be made.

The difference between 12 months and 18 negligible. There's bound to be more clubs interested in the summer- than a trigger finger sale now. That’s not the perceived logic, or everyone would be buying on the cheap in January. That's actually my point. I'm saying January shouldn't be cheap...

If its not for replacements... then presumably we don't have a cash flow requirement... if we did, I'd worry. So even less of reason to take an offer now that would be achievable in the summer. Don’t get your logic. 12 months on his contract left in the summer so less bargaining power for Rovers. Only way it goes up is if he scores 10 before the end of the season. Unlikely on recent form. The difference between 12 months and 18 negligible. There's bound to be more clubs interested in the summer- than a trigger finger sale now.

Let them walk away. £600k isn't enough. Most Grimsby fans want 500k for conteh, on the basis there's no release clause. This is league ones player of the year. 27 at the end of the season. Meaning a short Stay would see him sold at 28. For the sell on clause to be worthwhile: - bolton would need a promotion, and; - Collins would need to achieve mad numbers Too many variables. £750k to pick up the phone. But should be higher. If £750k allows us to be active this window with targets that would benefit us long term- accept. If not sell him for that value in the summer. When has selling a player meant the manager gets the funds, at Rovers ? Maybe things have changed now but, historically, we have not been a club that gives the fee to buy decent replacements. If its not for replacements... then presumably we don't have a cash flow requirement... if we did, I'd worry. So even less of reason to take an offer now that would be achievable in the summer.
