Like others a little mystified, thought he was going to head up recruitment, I was happy with that but as DOF not too sure, old fashioned, normally that would be an older experienced manager aka Lennie Lawrence type.
Prepared to wait and see how this develops, main thing is recruitment don t see the owners and Matt being on the same page, they are thinking the Ben Garner model, Matt wants some experience too.
All I will say is I want us buying players like Conteh, not taking James Daly types, and hoping they can make a step up.
Less is more rather have 2 more of his calibre than 4 maybe will come off, released by prem club gambles.

I thought we were supposed to be getting an official announcement of the appointment today? You heard the Radio Bristol interview. He announced in on Saturday. That bit was quite funny TBH. Reminded me of Dads Army, don t tell them your name Pike! RIP Ian Lavender

Changing a manager mid season is always difficult, we should use the rest of it to see how good our younger players are, and how far away they are too.
This would create more interest as well, as the longer the season goes on there will be less to play for.
So much of the squad will be rebuilt, quite looking forward to the close season, and seeing how serious the board will back Matt and George.

was gonna post the same thing I agree to an extent - I also run a business and my wife hires for larger companies. My main argument wasn't against GF per se but the general thrust of our recruitment policy - backroom staff and player - as its just been jobs for the boys for far too long. Someone mentioned Tommy and it's the perfect example as he joined because of DC and a connection. Martin Starnes knew Wael. Tom Gorringe possibly was an external hire? George Friend turned up at the club as he played a testimonial game, Chris Martin lived local etc. With George Friend it just stinks of a bloke in the building at the end of his career who's got an interest in staying in football after he hangs up his boots and because he played with the current manager its a good set up. What I want to hear is that we've been to see Brighton, Brentford, Bournemouth and Luton to see how they operate and what sort of staff we would need to do something similar and that George Friend is the first part of that process etc. I wont hold my breath but I am prepared to be shocked by the board and hope George is as impressive as his LinkedIn sounds. Chris Martin's goals saved the season, and with the right service would out score JCH in my humble opinion.

As I was leaving the ground a group of their fans were heading up the one way street to the Welly. They were clearly a bit down and had got to that stage of singing ironic songs. Yesterday Burnley fans were singing "We've had a shot" for example. Anyways, they were singing "Bristols a shithole, I wanna go home". Made I laugh. I thought the amount they brought on that very long journey and the noise they made to encourage their team, was really good to see ! 👍💙 I might be old, but hats off to them, never like our fans goading them singing Going down etc, they've driven for 5 hours or travelled on a coach for 6, proper fans, 👏👏👏

Who knows. Perhaps Conteh was identified by Friend? Both at Middlesbrough together.

But there again I guess every HoR has to start somewhere otherwise in 5/6 years time nobody would have had the experience to be an experienced HoR. Not a dig at you but if you have to start somewhere why not BRFC? Good luck George, if indeed it is true.👍 UTG! Why's HoR different from any other job, why not appoint somebody who's done a few years of scouting or management etc, or working part time alongside a full time HoR. This is possibly now the most important role at any club, as there's little the manager can do if he hasn't got the right players to manage. After Derby headhunted their previous HoR Oxford appointed from within their analysis dept: www.oufc.co.uk/news/2023/march/ed-waldron-head-of-recruitment/#:~:text=Oxford%20United%20are%20delighted%20to,club's%20new%20Head%20of%20Recruitment. Barnsley's have just appointed this person in a similar role: www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2024/february/mladen-sormaz-appointed/So far I can't find one L1 club who just appointed a player with no experience as HoR. Topper, the point you re missing is its about hunger and desire to succeed, if you look at George, an intelligent man with lots of previous clubs and relevant contacts, having played in the Prem. It's not going to be all about him, it's a results business so let s give the guy a chance, and debate this in July when HMS P/## the L will be either sailing or we ll be chasing James Constable, playing golf with Norwood , or checking the time of Clive Platts train!

Full credit to him as must be very difficult to make a go of it without a preseason at his age. We used to have a Bruno. How about we nickname him Rocky? Surely Doc Martin 💉💊🚑

For the remainder of this dead season can we concentrate on playing our own players? I didn’t see the point in the loanees we bought in during January - if there is no plan to permanently sign or bring any of them back on loan next season I’d rather we concentrate on giving the likes of Connolly game time to determine if he should have a future here. Far too sensible Eric, expect a ban! Baggott and Vale must be possibles though on permanent deals, I would think .

Conteh the difference between the sides.stood out a mile from the rest. Said to my mates, won t be here long, very classy, with a great engine. If we can recruit similar like the owners have said is our intention exciting times ahead! Need the likes of Grant Ward, Hunt and Martin though for some experience.

At least he cant get injured doing this....or can he? You couldn't make it up, a player who seems to disappear with the slightest injury now gets rewarded with a senior role at the club. Just when you thought we couldn't employ somebody worse than TW to head up recruitment, we've managed to do it! Give George a chance, after a year you can debate this, but this is shocking, we ain't Real Madrid!

We go to Cheltenham on April 13th, our penultimate away day. Of course I'd like the Gas to win but am sure I won't be too upset if Darryl takes the points and it helps them survive (assuming nothing on it for us) If they agree to take Wilson we can throw it I'm sure!

Assuming they did it deliberately rather than falling on hard times you do wonder what goes through their minds, why buy a season ticket if you can't afford to pay for it, as for a finance company to pull out it probably wasn't just the odd fans doing it. I'd be surprised if the club can now find an alternative financial company as they'll only face the same issues. What will happen is a new finance company will be more likely to take fans to small claims court for non payment and maybe get an attachment of earnings. Then fans will complain that they have been sold out to an organisation that doesn't care about them and have been heavy handed getting them to repay what they owe. If fans fall on hard times, then if they approach the credit company to offer to pay over an extended period then this would stop average Joe from losing this excellent option in a recession. Was it last season fans had duplicate season tickets, just robbing the club, income and squad development.

So to recap ( genuine question) . They sacked Barton because he had a top 6-8 budget . However : they are now making cut backs and trimming things from top to bottom ?. They sacked Barton because he had a top 8 budget, we playing bad, he was having some form of breakdown, Thomas idiot incident, HT Stevenage telling the players he was resigning, calling Evans a fat weeble. This has then carried on since he lost his job on Twitter. I said months ago they had cut back on hotel stays, Finley publicly said the manager needed backing. Martin rang in sick because of his contract being stalled, Taylor said he didn’t know what was going on, the deal was agreed days before. The manager has been given budget to bring in 3 loan kids and spend on Conteh. But he’s lost the best assister in the division, banked £500k after Conteh deal and saved on wages with the likes of Gibbons going. Enjoy your evening, Taylor and Brady had a drink after the game, they get on really well, how times have changed. Paul, I do think they will back Matt, our season is over so days like this will shape his plans for the cull in the summer, too many not good enough. Great news is there are loads out of contract, we might be stuck with Wilson unfortunately as he has another year.

Just watched the highlights. In fairness to him, not responsible for any of the goals. What, none of them?! Must be like when Glyn Jones let in 9 against Spurs. He actually played well that day and was a hapless spectator as we fell to pieces. Think 4 he could have done better with, the other 5 Belly had no chance.
