Could it happen again? August 24th AD 79 Early in the afternoon Pompeii destroyed December 26th 2023 AD Early in the afternoon Pompy away run ended Picky bastard historian here but the date of the destruction of Pompeii is more like November 23rd 79AD. Still the idea of destroying Pompey’s away record still appeals massively.

Do we really need a new keeper when Belshaw is still under contract until the summer, assuming MT hasn't also fallen out with him then why can't we just play him in goal? Would have him back for boxing day. Last season the defence made him look bad. This yeaR its the keeper who makes the defence look bad I don’t think we can have Belshaw now. He played for Harrogate today. I think that rules him ineligible to play for us.

So here we go again. Blackpool away, good luck to all those travelling up there. It’s a long way this close to Christmas. This feels like a winnable game - especially if we play as well as we did last week at Bolton in the first half but we can’t take it for granted by a long way. Wonder if Taylor will take a look at another one or two players or a different formation. Although injuries may force his hand in many of the decisions. I’ll go for 2-1 again. Marquis to score at least one of the goals.

So after a successful cup game I’ll try my hand at a league one. I’ve just seen Madness at the O2 which was excellent. Hoping for less madness against Bolton who will provide a stern test for our boys. A nice 2-1 win (we never keep clean sheets) will do me nicely, with a winner from Connor Taylor. Interesting to see what team Taylor puts out. Will he experiment again or will we see a more settled side begin to appear? UTG miltongas on the money! Got to stay on the match threads son! Delighted.

Happy you're taking this on, I was just about to take the responsibility. Agree with a 1-0 Gas win, always nice to beat a team wearing red. UTG x Thanks baden. It’ll either be a magnificent thing or an utter catastrophe. 😂😂😂 So it was magnificent. If a little fraught at the end. Still a decent result and on to the next round.

Hall and Ward? I had to double check that. Two keepers?! Grant not Jed Ward.

Seeing as no one else wants it I’ll start the matchday thread. Be warned my record is patchy. A chance for Taylor to start building his team up. If we carry on some of the better stuff from Saturday’s second half then who knows? Crewe may well be up for this. However the next round against Norwich is hardly a glamorous reward. I’m going for 0-1 Gas. Scrappy game, nice finish from Evans. UTG

Don’t rate Grant at League One level. Every time he has the ball I get flashbacks to the Garner era. I was about to say you were being harsh and I didn’t agree. But now I may have been convinced you are right. Terrible mistake.

Kind of - they went to Loftus Road but are now back at Carlisle. I don't recall them doing that before. They used to do it all the time. Thought it had stopped but I guess that as there’s no co-commentator at Carlisle there was no purpose in going there.

For what its worth and something of a flight of fantasy my choices would be; Monk Eustace Damien Duff Eustace would be great. My Birmingham city friends were gutted he was sacked. Especially to bring in Rooney.

I couldn't go, but I know of a couple of people who are likely to return regularly without Barton as manager. He certainly polarised parts of the fan base but it was interesting to see a higher attendance. It could have been returning fans, more away fans? or just the lack of home games recently. I guess the pro-Barton fans didn't protest by staying away in huge numbers either. Ultimately the pro- and anti- Barton fans support the club first and go to games, choosing how to voice their opposition to the clubs higher authorities through other means

I can't make the game today (illness) so I'm listening on the radio. I'm gutted as I'd loved to have been there to support the team. I'm also disappointed as I really wanted to be there for the first post-Barton game. I have not been massively critical of him online but have been vocal to my friends. But overall I'm delighted he's gone. As a person I never warmed to him. I cannot separate his personal actions from being the figurehead of the club and therefore was never happy with his appointment. I didn't boycott - I still bought my season ticket but never cheered him personally. Yes, the promotion was an amazing day with a good 10 game run in. Elliot Anderson is one of the best players I've seen in a Rovers shirt. But as good as it was, that was it. Barton promised much but ultimately delivered little. 4 home wins in 2023 is dreadful. Despite the odd good performance or more frequently good few minutes, on far too many occasions the football has been poor to watch. His treatment, publicly, of players who had bad games always struck me as unprofessional. Injuries seemed to be consistently part of the squad and I cannot believe it was just coincidence. Something was wrong with either the players he signed or the training program that was the wrong side of intense. The ever present hope of 'once everyone is fit' never materialised, nor did it look like it would. Hopefully a new manager can bring some much needed impetus and direction to the squad.

Sounds like a more realistic plan. If we can develop the three sides then eventually the West Stand will need to be done as well. Will be nice to have some certainty after decades without it. I, personally, like the idea of a re-developed Mem. The footprint is big enough for us. Be nice if we could get parking in as well somehow. (No idea how that happens). As for extra income I don't see why we can't have a hotel/conference rooms etc and other events. Concerts are given with restrictions - those at Ashton Gate have cut off times to allow time to empty and clear the area so why couldn't we do the same?

View AttachmentBeer Albion v North Molton.Richard Walker there and playing again for their reserves.1-1.They have a 'Sin Bin' in their league where players guilty of dissent go off for ten minutes. Interested to hear if this works, and cuts out dissent. I watched a game with it an when a player was binned the team just went ultra-defensive for the ten minutes. It killed the game for that period.
