Good mate of mine who is a big Gills fan told me this morning that Cody MacDonald is out of contract and his agent is shopping around for a new club.
He thought CM had a below average season last year and his highlight was two goals against us but I would welcome him I think to the Mem.(Maybe i'm getting desperate haha) Gills have very little money so we could well compete but guess it would come round to moving costs etc.... He is 31 i'm told.
Anyone rate him and is he what we should be looking for ?

He is definitely someone I hope we sign, scores 15/20 goals a season in this league and would be a valuable addition to the squad.
He might not completely solve our lack of goals up top but on a free, I can definitely see DC having a look at him.

I mean he only scored 10 in this league last season. 5 the season before, 16 in 14/15, 17 in 13/14, 3 in 12/13, 3 in 09/10. So in 2 of his 6 seasons in League 1 he's only scored above 15 twice and has never got 20.

You could list half a dozen strikers there's always one that not going to agree just because they are very good at one club doesn't mean they won't perform well at the Gas DC does have this way of getting that little bit extra out of a player. That's why DC is in charge and and us humble Joe Bloggs ain't you just can't please every **r

In terms of signing strikers DC has had success with Taylor and (to an extent) Gaffers, but then on the other end of the scale we have seen the likes of James, Goldberg, Wall, White, Cunnington and Blissett.
You cant knock DC's overall record with us, but his choice of striker leaves a lot to be desired imo.

But on the plus side, at least he hasn't started with Tom Lockyear upfront or Peter Hartley on the left wing?

Rate Cody McDonald.
Good player - fox in the box, bit of pace and has scored goals wherever he's been.
If we're signing 3/4 strikers this summer, I'd definitely take him as one of them.

I have always thought Gillingham were a pretty average / poor side so I think in a team that makes plenty of chances he would certainly convert more.

Finished 5 points of the playoffs in 15/16 where he scored 5, but I do agree. The snake needed countless chances and luckily for him we were a side who create and still do create plenty. The point was though that he doesn't score 15/20 a season in this league and I would rather we went for someone non-league who will be biting at the chance to prove something than go for a 31 year old.

With EH now moving out of the ranks of promising youngster to not bad young player and RG being in the well established zone,There will be room for an older experienced player in the squad. Whether that's a old hand at league one or a player on the way down from the championship who knows. I would expect one young striker to join up too.

It looks like EH is probably moving out to another club if he's still not signed his new contract?

Gills have brought in Yeovil fans favourite (not!) ex Rovers player Tom Eaves as Cody's replacement, after his massive haul of 4 goals in Dvi 2 last season.
