Alvechurch 19-year-old attacking midfielder Josh March should be kept a close eye on this season. He scored 36 goals in 44 appearances during 16/17 and helped them clinch a memorable treble by winning the Midland League Premier and two cup competitions. He scored a goal today against Leek Town in their first game in the Northern Premier League Division One South. He recently become the first player in over a decade to be put on contract at the club. His manager said: “It’s a massive boost for club. Josh’s goals have played a big part in our success this season,” said Long. “By putting him on contract, it sends a message to everybody that we want to keep taking the club forward. It’s the first time in my managerial career that I’ve had a player on contract and it’s the first time Alvechurch have had a player on contract since Keith Rostill.” www.alvechurchfc.club/teams/27463/match-centre/1-2223531/videos/99030

Oli Mcburnie still hasn't gone anywhere on loan. Would definitely have him back.

Another player to keep an eye on this season is 20-year-old Woking midfielder Charlie Carter. He has 1 goal in 2 starts (1 sub app) this season and 7 goals in 25 starts (20 Sub apps) in total from all competitions.

Some decent defensive midfielders I wouldn't mind us targeting. Rohan Ince, Brighton. Might be available on loan. Jay Spearing, free. Probably unlikely, but worth an offer. Oscar Gobern, free. Worth a closer look in training. Marc Crosas, free. Worth a closer look. Derek Boateng, free. Worth a closer look. Josh Pritchard, free. Worth a closer look in training. Ryan Tinsley, free. Worth a closer look in training. Thomas Reilly, Elgin City. Worth scouting/taking on trial. Priestley Griffiths, Bishop Auckland. Worth scouting/taking on trial. Your man Whiteley scored again last nite Pirate.

Whitely on Tuesday Another 2 goals today. This guy is a great call.... Starting to wonder if it's arrogance or ignorance by DC as to why we haven't made an earlier move. i have zero confidence in the clubs ability to spot, negotiate with and sign a Really exciting, edge of your seat , take your breath away player. Others seem to manage it though.

DC's signings must be a certain profile and character. The trouble is the best players in the world don't necessarily have the greatest character or aren't necessarily the best to manage. Do you think as we go forward that DC needs to learn how to cope with different types of character within the squad? Is choosing players of a certain character a positive in theory but do we then compromise top quality?

Does he take them to spoons for a pint and a bite to eat then Dojo lounge for a wrecker? I employ quite a few people and its difficult to judge people in interviews and you are never 100% its going to work for either of you until you start working with them on a day-to-day basis. You can get references but they are not reliable in my experience. If a player has talent and potential to play at our level or higher then get him in, preferably not a loan as we can look to profit financially if they are ours.

As a manager I'd back myself to bring the best out of any player and set them on the straight and narrow if needs be. Some players just need the right guidance. The 'character' thing is overplayed in my view.

21-year-old Cameron King could be worth a trial this summer. He's a product of the Norwich City academy and helped them win the 12/13 FA Youth Cup beating Chelsea in the final. He made his first team debut in the League Cup against Shrewsbury during 2014. He was part of the Scotland U18s squad and has also played 2 games, scoring 1 goal, for the Scotland U21 side. King was released by Norwich during June 2016, this was early as Cameron had been suffering from migraines whilst playing. After receiving medical advice he was ready to get back out on the pitch, starting at step five of the non-league pyramid joining his hometown side Thetford Town during August 2016. Thetford boss Danny White said “He’s seen a specialist to get help but he’s a lad with a lot of potential, it’s just a matter of time before he goes on to play at a higher level. But in the meantime it’s a massive coup for us as a club, hopefully it benefits us and hopefully him if he plays regularly, gets fitter and impresses." King finished the 16/17 season with 17 goals and numerous assists. Joined League of Ireland Premier Division side Shamrock Rovers. www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwich-city/former-norwich-city-youngster-cameron-king-joins-shamrock-rovers-1-5148365

Another striker to keep an eye on this season is the 20-year-old Solihull Moors player Oladapo Afolayan. He joined them last season from Midland Premier League side Loughborough Uni (where he is also studying for an engineering degree) and is a former Chelsea youth team player. His manager Liam McDonald said: “Education is very important to Dapo and his family which is the only reason why he’s not already playing in professional football.” “I’m looking forward to working with him and have high hopes for this young striker. We’re excited by his addition to the squad as he’ll add raw pace and he’s technically very good." Since joining Solihull in February he has scored 6 goals in 13 starts (6 sub apps), including 2 goals in 4 apps so far during the 17/18 season. solihullobserver.co.uk/sport/from-toronto-to-solihull-the-rise-of-solihull-moors-striker-dapo-afolayan/
