Yes, just that the article I was referring to (by James Piercy 13th June) quoted BG as suggesting they’d wait for January and next summer’s window to start harvesting the fruits of their expanded European Scouting set up: “Speaking to BBC Radio Bristol, Garner revealed how lockdown has given him the chance to assess summer targets more closely with the aid of a recruitment company who have been sub-contracted to assist Widdrington and his scouting network. "I've worked pretty much every day," Garner said. "It's not been a productive period in terms of training and contact time with the players, but has been very productive in a number of other areas off the pitch. There's been an incredible amount of work on recruitment and the detail we've been able to go into. We were very strong on traditional scouting, eyes on the ground scouting. "But I wanted to add to that to give us a more all-round approach. So we brought in a recruitment company in January that doesn't just focus on data and statistics but also analyses games and provide us with a database of players from the profiles we give them. So that's been a really big help from January and particularly so during lockdown. Because, obviously there's been no football played, and no live games watched so that's been another string to our bow in terms of our recruitment. "We've utilised that alongside what we already had in place and that's given us a really strong recruitment department and will stand us in great stead for next season, in terms of the squad that we're looking to put in place." Garner made three permanent and four temporary signings in January, all under the age of 23, with the exception of Chelsea loanee Jamal Blackman, indicating the direction he wishes to take the club. With Rovers' retained list to be announced on Monday, the expected departure of experienced midfielder Liam Sercombe could also be followed by veteran centre-back Tony Craig, lowering the average age of Garner's squad considerably. In assessing leagues and potential targets, Garner admits Rovers' search has been across all domestic leagues, including academy football, but their radar into Europe and beyond has tried to focus on divisions with similarities to League One. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the economic and cultural fallout, Garner doesn't expect many clubs to be doing business outside the confines of English football. We identified leagues we felt are similar in style to League One in terms of the transfer of a player from a certain league abroad, how it would work in terms of coming into our league," Garner added. "We looked at past cases of that, how it's been successful - more so with Championship clubs - but adapting it slightly for League One. Where we made a shift was, because of the pandemic and the impact it's had, we felt it would be very difficult to bring players in from other countries during this window. I can't see many people wanting to move away from home, away from their families after what's gone on.
So we changed tack a little bit on that front, but all that work that we did will stand us in good stead for the January window and summer window of next year. "When we go abroad, Tommy and the recruitment team are (now) going to watch specific players for specific reasons. So it's made our process more efficient and more productive."Sounds like Lincoln City are open to exploring the foreign market further this summer. Appleton hasn’t ruled out delving more into the market to sign some more players from abroad this summer after landing Montsma, as per Lincolnshire Live: “I think you have to be open minded and you can’t just limit yourself to one pond. There are plenty of opportunities out there for players and clubs if you are prepared to do the work and put the graft in. “I think we have done that over the summer as a club certainly on the recruitment side of things. Lewis is one of maybe a dozen to 15 players we have been looking at from the foreign market. He may be the last one that comes from abroad but that certainly won’t be from a want of not looking.”

Admittedly only seen him once but, I really enjoyed Mohamed Doumbia in midfield for Dukla Prague last weekend. Box to box player, plenty of energy, creative, clever, admittedly he might have just had an excellent game but I'm keen.

As well as a 1 in 2 goalscoring record during his career, the lad Boere also seems to get the odd assist for his clubs, with 10 assists in 71 games for FC Twente, 6 in 39 for Top Oss and 6 in 53 games for FC Eindhoven. Other than the free transfers Tom Boere and Valmir Suljemani, I would give some serious consideration to the 21-year-old free agent striker Karlo Butic. Butic has a similar hammer of a left foot and strong build (6ft 2in) as JCH, and like our big man, Butic made his debut in senior football at the age of 16. After scoring goals in senior football at a young age in the Croation 2nd tier he was signed for a fee by Inter Milan. Did well for them at youth level before switching to Torino where he got 30 goals in 42 games for their U19 side. Spent last season playing on loan for 3rd tier Cesena where he scored 11 goals with 3 assists from 29 games, before his release this summer.

More interesting free agents from abroad.
23-year-old 6ft 1in striker Emmanuel Apeh released by Celta Vigo B team, who scored 21 goals in 49 games for them in one of the Spanish 3rd tiers and previous to that scored 27 goals in 37 games for the Lorca B team in the 4th tier.
22-year-old 6ft 2in central midfielder Sidney Friede who has represented Germany at U18, U19 and U20 level. He came through the Hertha Berlin youth ranks where he scored 17 goals and created 14 assists in 52 games for their U19 side.
21-year-old 6ft 1in centre back Juan Brandariz Movilla, or 'Chumi' as he is known, who has represented Spain at U16, U17 and U19 level. He came through the ranks at Barcelona and was released by their B team who play in one of the Spanish 3rd tiers.

...and a few others.
Hakim Guenouche is a 20-year-old left back released by his 3rd tier German side KFC Uerdingen. A former France U16 and U17 international, during his youth days at AS Nancy he was reportedly being tracked by Manchester City and Barcelona.
Possibly an ambitious shout, but Ismail Azzaoui is a 22-year-old winger released by Wolfsburg, where he was last playing for their 2nd team in one of the 4th tiers. Had a productive loan spell during 17/18 in the Dutch top flight with Willem II Tilberg scoring 4 goals and assisting 6 in 24 appearances. A former Tottenham Hotspur youth and Belgium U15, U16, U17 and U19 player.
And another ambitious shout, Bilel Aouacheria is a 26-year-old French winger or attacking midfielder released by Portuguese side Moreirense. I could be wrong, but I think he was only on something in the region of €1.3K per week at his previous club.

Grimmer also looked good for Wycombe. Ex Coventry and L2 Team of the year. Spent 2 months as a free agent before Wycombe snapped him up - Where the f**k was Widders on that one?

We were linked with him for ages, but then went for Josh Hare who was in the National League Team of the Season. I thought Hare looked decent before he suffered that unfortunate injury. Hopefully it hasn't affected him longer term and he can get back to level he was at before and improve further.

I can see Timmy Abraham coming back, with the new coach and him not having a proper chance here due to the virus. We need a poacher, Taylor mould kind of player.

Transfermarkt says Chelsea U23 captain Josh Grant is being released this summer. The versatile centre back has represented England at U18 and U20 level in the past and I reckon he could be a decent addition for us. transfermarkt got it wrong last summer. But, better late than never. 👍🏻

We've apparently been close to getting Mason Mount and Callum Hudson-Odoi at the mem in recent seasons.

Definitely got a better chance of securing some of the better youngsters on loan knowing they will be well looked after.

To be fair to DC, you can sort of see his reasoning behind it considering Clarke-Salter had a disappointing loan spell and Colkett decided to leave us to join Swindon half way through the season because he didn't like our style of football. It's a shame that they didn't join in the end, both would have been improvements on what we already had and could have ultimately saved DC's job. Oh well.

Sort of understand it, but you have to judge each player on their individual merits and it is clear as day light that both would have improved us. Hudson-Odoi, for example, has been one of the most highly-rated players in his age group since he was about 15-16. All water under the bridge now though and hopefully as a club we won't pass up similar opportunities again.

He had technical ability and the odd flick here and there that came off but not a lot else. I don’t think he was as good as he thought and certainly not good enough to stroll around without a single sprint like he did as Shrewsbury before DC took him off at halftime. Perhaps he’d have a better future as a freestyler? Out of interest how old is he now and where is he playing?

Östersund In Sweden. They bought him from Chelsea a year or two back. Not sure how much they paid. They have quite a few English lads there.
