My deep data dive has thrown up some random players and José Martinez is another one. Be great if we were in a position to offer a summer trial to one or two of these gems if all parties were in agreement. See how they measure up in person to what we have in the building and what is available elsewhere. Some potential bargains to be had. Attachment Deleted

Depending on pronunciation I think this guy could stay strong for a full 90 minutes, goes in hard when required, and stands up to be counted… Was gonna mention the former Brighton player Billy Arce, but thought better of it. Couldn't be Arced Pirate 😂 your list must be giving George headaches that's why its taking so long!

Couldnt be Arced. Very good. 😆 If any of the reported wages are even close to being accurate for some of these overseas players, there are undoubtedly some bargains to be had. An open minded and creative recruitment department could secure some bargain gems to be polished and potentially sold on for a vast profit in the future if developed correctly.

Two José (Carlos) Martínes and Jose Carlos Martinez's in my lists and I managed to initially muddle up the accompanying videos. Can only imagine the confusion in the opposion defence when the are told to mark Martinez/Martines. Both look like decent players and this Martines only reportedly earning about £155 pw and out-of-contract end of December Attachment Deleted

Over the past week or so pirate you’ve come up with some, seemingly, good, value for money younger players who appear to match the ‘buy younger and cheap and sell on later for a profit’ that the owners talked about. I wonder if the lack of a stable recruitment/operations/ whatever you want to call it team is stopping us making this work. Lincoln have come out and said they are looking at it. Oxford we’re always looking in Ireland and I would imagine Wycombe with their new owner may go down that route. The current posts advertised may make a difference because atm without a secretary and a CEO who seems to be impotent with regards to football matters we seem to be at a disadvantage which with the potential out there could come back to bite us.
UTG!

UTG! There is a general reluctance from EFL clubs to shop abroad. The commentators on the following podcast put it down to "trends", but maybe things will change now things are easier with the recent RULE CHANGES

It’s got to be costly and time consuming tho. To find a gemyou’d probably have to look at 50-100 players in person. You tube clips can be deceptive! That is a lot of time and travel.Would be good to throw the net wider but will take a long time to get a network in place to make this any more than pot luck

Video analysis will undoubtedly form part of a decision making process, but as with Lincoln, everything initially will be data led which filters out the wheat from the chaff and makes things a lot less time consuming and narrows down the target list. If anything, considering the average weekly wage of a League One player is reportedly £4,753, surely it could save money if you find a gem abroad that fits the profile and he's only earning a few hundred quid pw at his current club?

Good article worth a read Scouting Africa: ‘It’s the most undervalued market in world football’ www.nytimes.com/athletic/4730647/2023/08/06/scouting-africa/Youssouf Ndayishimiye and why data/video for African football matters. The Burundian league had a full season of data on Wyscout. The standout player was a midfielder. He was signed by a Turkish club for $40k, a year later by another for $2m, and now $20m to Nice. x.com/SBunching/status/1617823969067044874'Have you seen my latest video with @sbunching yet? Here is an interesting clip where he discusses the value of scouting from Africa, things to consider, and why it is still and untapped market'... I seem to remember Trolls saying that Big John Anderson was given a minor part time scouting role when he retired from the pro game. ( did be play / coach lower Scottish leagues) and was asked to recommend any decent talent.
With the former players association having regular meetings and the players caps thing keeping players in touch, maybe this is another way to look for players.
I think Jamie Cureton and Barry Hayles are managers/ coaches in non league and Jason Roberts had a soccer school on Guyana? Personal recommendations could be a good initial step.

Grenada was who Roberts played for internationally and where he has strong links with. The current national manager is the former Rovers and City coach Terry Connor. Wonder if they think this lad Joshua Isaac is worth a trial? Edit: I'm again left thinking "what might have been" with the legend that is Nigel Pierre. 🤔

The whole of that season was a "might have been".
Being a Gashead, my feet are firmly on the ground but I must admit that after the win at Oldham and seeing the Latvian for the first time, I genuinely thought we were going to walk it.
How Burnley could afford Ian Wright, God only knows. They must have been going for broke. Gambles like that very rarely pay off.
And before anyone says it, we couldn't afford Walters or Vita so we definitely pushed the boat out and spent years paying the penalty.

I think even these days the average weekly wage for a Latvian Virslīga player is only about £400-£500 pw.
