Seven or eight of those will probably get nowhere near the first-team next season.
I think we need ten or eleven signings capable of playing for the first XI.

I would like to think this will be the last season where large quantities of first team level players arrive at the club . There will always be players who move up the ladder that's part of football but we should start having more of the younger players filling the subs benches in the coming years. With the ridiculous amount of subs allowed on the bench these days there should ALWAYS be a player from the development squad amongst them. Gaining that matchday experience even if they don't make it onto the pitch to play.

In reality though, it's more like:
0 goalkeepers -
(a trialist is only that)
6 defenders -
D Leadbitter L Brown T Lockyer J Clarke J Partlington J Burn
7 midfielders -
O Clarke C Lines B Moore B Bodin S Sinclair R Broom L Sercombe
2 strikers -
E Harrison R Gaffney
The players I've removed probably won't play 10 first team matches between them this season (depending on how far we get in the Checkatrade), so I don't really consider them as being first team squad members.
15 players!

How many are youth academy and how many will actually get some game time? Should narrow that down to squad members who'll play....

Would be nice if one of our youth players makes the breakthrough. We are spending a fortune on our youth setup and for it to be worth the money and for us to become the sustainable club Wael talks about this must be the way forward. Out of those mentioned I have only seen a couple play. Kilgour looked like a solid no nonsense defender and I was disappointed when he got the injury.
My question for the forum is for those who have seen them play more who is likely to get in the first team this coming season?

If we dont announce a signing during the week, I'm going to be seriously concerned especially since we have just one goalkeeper, and 2 strikers going into pre season.

Kilgour from the few times I have seen him looks well short of being first team material and I have my doubts as to whether he will be any better than Greenslade and a few others that have been around but really never part of the squad. new do need 10 or 11 signings and to make a successful start to the season they need to mostly arrive before the season starts with maybe three signings left to be made between the opening day and the closing of the market.

I think we're doing the right thing by Kilgour after he missed the second half of last season through injury. I suspect he may have been released otherwise, but I'm glad the club take this stance and it offers him the same chance that the others had last year.

You may be spot on there 2nd May but I'm wondering if they see a bit more potential there than someone like Greenslade. They could easily have offered him the chance to prove his fitness as they did with Trotman but the fact they've offered him a full deal (granted we don't know for how long) makes me think they may see a bit more in him.

We didn't even have an official U18 Manager all last season ( after Alan Walsh left) which shocked me !

True. They could have given him non-contract terms like they did with I think Dominic Thomas, so you may be right that they see something more in him. Hope so.

I think this is the updated squad, not the one mentioned at the top of this post, DC targets in brackets, only one of those ten filled so far:
GOALKEEPERS [Gk] [Gk]
DEFENDERS Lockyer Burn Partington Leadbitter Brown J Clarke Kilgour [LB] [LCB big and dominant] [Hartley replacement, I guess, unless DC always planned to be without him]
MIDFIELDERS Lines O Clarke Sinclair Bodin Moore Broom [Defensive CM] Liam Sercombe [Attacking CM] [Left-sided player who comes inside on his right foot]
ATTACKERS Harrison Gaffney [CF that plays off shoulder] [CF that runs down the line] [CF that drops in the pocket]

Can Steve middehall still classed a player??? I suspect that's a question you could have asked about any number of our players, in the past ..

We didn't even have an official U18 Manager all last season ( after Alan Walsh left) which shocked me ! Thats a interesting point. From the outside it looks like a lot is being spent with the creation of the under 23 team and the multitude of new staff mentioned on the OS linked to our youth and development setup. If we were able to have this at a relatively low cost before via grants then it begs the question of why this didn't happen before. I am sure the assumption most fans have made is that extra money is being put into the club but if that's not the case it's a bit sad we didn't do this earlier.
