Shaping up quite nicely is a good description of how I see it at present. I see the necessary signings remaining being 1) a tall commanding left central defender (Sweeney or Sonny Bradley or Pierre) I would probably prefer the latter two as permanent rather than loaning Sweeney.
2) A strong central defensive midfielder
3) Left Winger- Preferably someone with a bit of pace Wheeler?
4) Striker - Another goalscorer- ie Matt Godden, or Madden
5) I would add a fifth which would be a fast right winger as my biggest worry is that just before the transfer deadline we get caught out and lose Bodin with no real cover but also because we have no real pace in the wide areas to change a game. I have not seen any of the trialists so can't really comment on them and would only judge them against decent opposition anyway rather than Melksham,Weston, Mangotsfield or Yate.
It would still be ideal to see these signings before the first game especially 1, 3 and 4 because at present I put question marks against Burn, Partington, Moore and Broom.

Difficult to judge Burn & Partington as they have had so little game time.....

If we sign another starting midfielder we could well be overcrowded in that area with Linsey, Sincs, Ollie & Sercs all looking to be regulars - think DC will go with what we have in that area with option of a signing in next window if needed. Agree we need a big CF, a wide man & a big CH. Lambert, Wheeler and Sweeney would be fantastic! I would definitely like to see Sweeney back here as well as Wheeler, although I don't think he would come cheap. I'm just not on the Lambert bandwagon, I would go for pace over size with our fourth striker signing personally and I reckon it will be a loan. I wouldn't mind having a look at Donovan Wilson on loan. He's a local lad who I'm sure would be happy to come back here on loan. He was the top scorer in the u23 Premier League last year and Wolves fans who have seen him seem to rate him. www.molineuxmix.co.uk/index.php?threads/donovan-wilson.195453/

One player we should be tracking imho is the tricky, skillful Corey Whitely. He can play on either wing or upfront. He is ideal for the role on the left wing that DC has spoken about.

I hope we have a few more permanent signings. We've only brought in 4 and one of them was a loan Smith, Slocombe, Bola, Nichols and Sercombe means we've signed 5. I forgot about Sercombe, it feels like he has been here forever. I would still like a couple more permanent players. if i we had to fill one position with a loan it would be either the CB or Winger.

Dont agree with the op"s views on the midfield as i think its very strong as it is especially with sercombe added, also when ive seen him play sercombe has looked like a good footballer technically as well so we will just have to see i guess? We could do with a left winger although dc does not really like wingers as such,he uses them as subs against tired opponents and prefers overlapping full-backs or wing-backs. Bodin is not a genuine winger in my view,he tends to play infield a little looking to shoot. Where i do agree with the op is that we need a strong centre-back to partner lockyer as im not convinced j clarke/jonny burn can cut it in that position. Just opinions of course. Bodin was most effective as a winger. Suits him perfectly cutting in and shooting. If he keep doing that play him there. Don't want to see him pushed up front.. Get another striker in to do that. I totally agree, what i meant was that bodin isnt a winger in the traditional sense like montano and moore.

I really think that the biggest thing missing from our squad is PACE and I would say this has been one of our weaknesses since the non league season. That and a real targetman alternative. All the better teams had pace about them last season.

I want him to do well, partly because I don't feel that he's been given a fair run in the team yet, and partly because we need a reliable player to support Lockyer. Think he's cover for Lockyer. Although he's never played whilst Lockyer has been away in international duty.

Yes agree with all of that .. Godden or Madden and I will be delighted. Think i would prefer Sweeney to Bradley or Pierre but not convinced we will get any of them for different reasons, so still a lot to look out for . We need someone commanding and I don't sense the trialists have done enough to show they can step up to what is a crucial position. I am only going on what has been said on here though as I haven't seen them play. Wheeler would be great . Am i right in thinking that if the unthinkable happens and we lose Billy late in the window there will be an emergency loan window for one week afterwards?
