Smith 6 not a great deal to do. Don't think it was a goal.
J. Clarke 5 steady before injury. Lockyer 4 poor first half display. Broadbent 6 solid debut his day was made a lot easier with the sending off. Brown 3 shocking delivery must of wasted 7 or 8 crosses.
Sercombe 7 MOTM tidy and mobile a few long range efforts. Lines 5 show pony performance we needed more. Corners were poor. O. Clarke 5 not dominant enough
Bodin 4 very poor game no great moments. Harrison 4 poor performance we needed more. No service. Sinclair 6 had his hands full, stuck to his task.
Subs: Nichols 6 no service worked hard. Broom 5 looked bright Gaffney 5 no service worked hard.
Crowd 7 mugged at Charlton again Ref 3 incompetent along with the Lino! Charlton 6 fair play ground it out good game management to get win with 10 men. They were helped massively by our inability to produce in the final third.

Smith 6 solid Clarke J 5 hardly had a chance to get his shirt sweaty Brown 3 had plenty of opportunities to deliver a decent cross, didn't manage it. Lockyer 4 some good passes to the bloke in row K of the East stand Broadbent 6 MOTM showed up well in difficult debut Sinclair 5 switched roles after 15 minutes, industrious but ultimately ineffective in both of them. Clarke O 5 laboured Lines 5 not at the races Sercombe 6 steady debut, couple of hopeful unconvincing pops at goal Bodin 3 invisible Harrison 4 never a threat
Nichols 3 invisible no.2 .. swear we put his number up after 15 mins noticed he was playing about an hour into the game. Broom 5.5 offered slightly more than Browner had from the left. Gaffney 5 effort but no cutting edge.
Crowd 7 ...2174 Gasheads turned up, shame their team did not. Ref 3 got a decision right after six minutes, realised he'd sent a home player off and stopped giving decisions our way from then on. Luckily our lads did not show enough passion or aggression for him to get the opportunity to even up the numbers. Charlton 6 wasn't their fault we were rubbish and they had to compensate for being down to ten men.
Disappointingly ineffective start to the campaign. Still convinced I saw a nil nil draw...but at least the linesman should never have to buy a drink in SE7 for a few years!

Smith 5 ok performance. Flapped at one corner. Distribution could have been better. Lots of high long balls which were not gaining us posession.
J. Clarke 5 too short a time on the pitch to truely assess Lockyer 4 looked a weak link. Nervy and poor distribution. Broadbent 6.5 good steady performance Brown 4 terrible final balls which which was one of the main reasons for not getting a result
Sercombe 5.5 best of the midfield but not as effective as should have been. Silly booking Lines 5 lots of the ball but no killer passes O. Clarke 4.5 not at the races
Bodin 4 Harrison 4 no lack of effort but just very ineffective Sinclair 4.5
Subs: Nichols 5 showed some good touches but should have done a lot better Broom 5 reasonable cameo but nothing special Gaffney 4 no more effective than Harrison
Crowd 6 good numbers of Gas but quite subdued Ref 5 Charlton 6 did not look anything special but I had to often count the players on the pitch as a lot of time it appeared that they had the extra man.

Smith - 5.5 - kicking not the best J. Clarke - 6 - no time to rate Lockyer - 4.5 - distribution shocking for first 20 mins Broadbent - 7 - steady display, but not hugely tested. impressive for his debut Brown - 5.5 - not his best game, but was given little support on the left till Broom came on Sercombe - 7 - some nice touches and attacking intent. Better as he was given more licence to get forward. looks a good addition Lines - 6 - saw a lot of the ball, without doing much wrong, but also created little O. Clarke - 5.5 - not involved enough Bodin - 4 - poorest I've seen from him. Hardly involved, lacked effort, and gave the ball away a few times Harrison - 4 - clearing the ball from the Charlton box with his head summed his performance up Sinclair - 6 - effort was there as always, but still lacks quality at this level Subs: Nichols - 6.5 - some nice touches, and looked fairly sharp, but think he'll need time to get settled in Broom - 5.5 - gave us another option down the left, but lacks quality Gaffney - 6 - didn't get great service, but did. Little wrong br] Crowd - 7 Ref - 5 (lino - 1) Charlton - 6

Smith - 6 bit of a vampire
J. Clarke - nole Lockyer - 6 Broadbent -7 very good debut (considering where he has come from) Brown - 5
Sercombe -7 ok debut (considering where he came from) Lines -6 O. Clarke -5
Bodin - 5 Harrison - 4 Sinclair - 5
Subs: Nichols -5 Broom -6 Gaffney -5
Crowd - 4 great numbers and good start but some of the abuse some individuals aim at our team is watering me off Ref - 3 officials were poor. Solly should have gone also when Novak got his red Charlton -7 nothing special but ground out a great result for them considering down to 10 men

Solly should have gone also when Novak got his red Charlton -7 nothing special but ground out a great result for them considering down to 10 men Sean, I can honestly put this down to a small clique who started this off and it's the reason that I removed myself from every rovers related Facebook page, apart from tote end old boys I dread to think what our fan base will be like when our generation is no longer able to go. It angers me and I've been very close to honestly hurting one guy. When you hear and see comments saying they wish a career ending injury on one of our players then it's more than abuse, it's sick. In my area it's Ellis who gets it and I blocked ALL of them. Personally, I may have my own thoughts but I will NEVER boo or abuse one of our own players, NEVER EVER. Christ, I never even have Riordan any stick. We are not what we once were mate and the sad truth is we no longer hold the moral high ground when talking of the Reds. There is now no difference at all and, if anything, things are getting better down the road

Results in and Tom Broadbent was Man of the Match on debut with a score of 6.67.
He becomes the 33rd player to be named MotM in these threads and 5th to do so on debut. The others to have done so were Taylor, J. Clarke, Boateng and Lumley although Della Verde and Dawson both did it in their first start.
For comparison, Charlton rated as 7.1 (H) and 6.3 (A) in the two games against them last season.
Thanks to all those that gave ratings and I hope many more do so throughout the season. For obvious reasons, I did not include ratings from people who were not at the game.
Smith 5.9
J. Clarke 5.9 Lockyer 4.4 Broadbent 6.7 Brown 4.2
Sercombe 6.5 Lines 5.6 O. Clarke 4.8
Bodin 4.1 Harrison 4.2 Sinclair 5.3
Subs: Nichols 5.3 Broom 5.1 Gaffney 4.9
Crowd 6.4 Ref 3.7 Charlton 6.1
