I thought tom and sweeney formed a very effective partnership last season so this "carrying the captain" thing is rubbish imo. Gary cahill had a great season last year at chelsea but if i went through all the chelsea highlights i could easily post a couple videos of mistakes and claim that chelsea were carrying him. It wouldnt be true of course but never mind. Why can't he form an effective partnership with others? Why does it have to be Sweeney? He should be able to play with anyone and his weakness is attacking the ball in both boxes but many players his size can jump and win the ball and read the flight of the ball as well still. Hinton comes to mind as does Steve Yates I didnt say it has to be sweeney,i was really pointing out that his form after january was very good last season. You say he lost his marker today although i couldnt make that out from the video, you may be right though. It all about opinions but i think hes been a top player for us and expect that to continue this season.

Amazing how steve Elliot was never our main skipper. Now there's a centre back. Locks has only played well with sweeny and macca. Tom parkes as captain springs to mind with this issue. Neal trotman used to fart louder than Lockyer shouts I should have added

Is that the one in your head yeah?

No idea if Lockyer was poor, but this whole captaincy thing is bollox as i keep saying and a sel fufilling prophecy.
If the other 10 players need to look to 1 to drag them up, then they are looking at the wrong player and should be looking at themselves, whether its Bristol Rovers or Manchester United
Trouble is a lot of fans beleive it do, simply because the British press have built this image of what a captain should be

Drop the captain after an away defeat to Charlton to a goal from a set piece. Strikers man got the header on target? Lockyer didn't protect the keeper at all whilst TB was excellent.

What was concerning that after watching us 3 times their manager "knew exactly what formation he would play against us". Suggests he identified a clear weakness and for my pennyworth it is that we are vulnerable to crossed. Shame someone ballsed up in the office to prevent Sweeney playing as he might have helped prevent. I do think loyalty only gets you so far and it is now time to pick the most efficient combination to win games, something he has always done but lately I'm not convinced that's the case. Ideal game Tuesday to change it around as we really need 3 points on Saturday.

Interesting interview from tom broadbent...."he said what a basic mistake to make that someone lost their marker(tom) and he doesn't know who it was but will have to watch it and see who it was as he had his guy marked..." also doesn't look like he'll be happy to be dropped for sweeney...but I can imagine dc has promised Ryan and stoke he'll be playing every week to convince him to sign...I personally think tom should be put on the bench and broadbent/sweeney playing to give locks a kick up the arse as I know it's only been one match but tom has repeated the same mistakes that cost us points last season too!!!

Tom's distribution/passing has been a weakness and in the first half yesterday it was woefull. Cambridge Tuesday would be an ideal opportunity to look at a Sweeney/Broadbent pairing.

Looks like when they will watch the video they will see the guy who lost his marker a lot last season, the same bloke rinsed at Walsall last season. Peter mentions the captain isn't that important, well how does he tell a player he's doing wrong when he is doing wrong himself? As for the Wales comment, plenty of players have made international squads, Tom has to get caps first of all and let's be honest, Wales don't have a conveyor belt of centre halves. www.google.co.uk/amp/s/footballpink.net/2013/11/27/one-cap-wonders-the-club-that-no-one-wants-to-be-part-of/amp/

Mansell was a captain, without being captain for instance. I assume you have played football at, at least park standard. If your team mate is doing wrong you tell them. You dont need to be a captain. There should be 11 'captains'

Captaincy aside, Lockyer is in the team for the way he reads the game. He reads the game so well and what he lacks in pace he makes up for in footballing intelligence.

He also does a lot of tidying up work at the back that goes unnoticed when the fullback are out of position. Was it his man who had the free header? There seemed to be two Charlton players unmarked from the free kick and we looked unorganised as a whole. For people to be calling for him to be dropped after 90 minutes of the new season is laughable.

Not at the game just wondered if he did any defensive work whilst he was on the pitch

Well Peter Parker says it's a myth about captains, I question if he has ever played the game?
Macca used to organise our back four, Elliott did it, Tilson did it, but Tom can't even organise himself as seen again today.
It's time he was dropped, nothing do with the captaincy, he simply isn't good enough at this level. This has been a problem for us now for 9 months. Sweeney came in last season and stablised us and Tom but as last week and again today, Tom doesn't lead or defend well in our defence.
Why sign Burn?
Tom is one of the 4 undroppables with Brown, Sincs and Ellis.
