Game No 13
Opponents Blackpool Home Won 3-1
Team Individual Performances
Slocombe 7 Another performance where he looks competent and a good Division 1 keeper. Didn't have that much to do but did everything well.
Bola 8 Although he is not a right back he eased into the position and showed what a classy player he is. Shame he isn't ours because he is a real talent and like the team got better and better as the game went on and in the second half he brought the ball out well.
Partington 5 Lost his man for the Blackpool goal and looked uneasy from the start so maybe Clarke is right in saying he is struggling with injury but
IMO if that is the case then he shouldn't be in the team until fully fit.
Broadbent 7.5 Looked solid throughout although got caught out a couple of times in the first half but personally I would play him on Tuesday because he deserves a run in the side to prove what he can do.
Brown 6.5 Played OK but not the influence he has been in previous seasons. Bringing the ball out was slow and laborious.
Bodin 7 Another vital goal and some silky touches including a great cross for the second goal. Not at his best but he has to be on the pitch because how many times this season has he got us out of jail. Until his goal I just couldn't see where a goal would come from.
O. Clarke 5 Struggled again, slightly better second half but in truth I would say that at the moment he is in the team because we don't have anyone else who can play that position. One great shot just wide was the best he offered.
Lines 8 As at Wolves he got better and better as the game went on. Brilliant run and pass for the first goal and always looks comfortable on the ball.
Moore 6.5 Shocking booking when he should have won us a penalty and showed moments of quality and unlucky to be substituted.
Nichols 7 Worked hard again but he was bought to score goals and is not looking much like doing that. I am not going to write him off yet but IMO Telford should be given a run of games to see what he can do.
Harrison 8.5 MOM Great performance and a brilliant individual goal to sow the game up. Showed amazing energy and a willingness to go up and down the pitch winning aerial balls at both ends. Hope he can now get a run going on his goal scoring.
Subs:
Sweeney 8 Scored the goal which turned the game our way but his main part was to tighten up a quite dodgy looking defence in the first half and we didn't really look back.Personally I would stick with him and Broadbent on Tuesday and only bring Tom Lockyer back if Leadbitter and Partington are unfit.
Sercombe 7 Like Sweeney improved the defence so Sercombe improved the midfield. Really don't think he should have been left out of the starting line up anyway.
Telford 7 Reminds me of Cureton both in stature and the fact he comes to life in the penalty area. Was so unlucky not to open his league account when after a great run into the box his powerful shot was beating the keeper hands down when a defender somehow deflected it over.
Crowd 6 Quiet in the first half but then seemed to spur the team on in the second half when it would have been so easy to get on their backs after a really luck lustre performance.
Ref 1 Terrible bordering on the bias but thankfully we won the game so it isn't sour grapes. The song Three Blind Mice comes to mind because the Linesmen were dreadful too.
Blackpool 7 Their Manager spent the entire game moaning to the fourth official and I thought the Blackpool players showed this in their game as well. Always going down easy and trying to influence the referees decision. To be fair they did play good football in the first half without really troubling Slocombe after the opening goal.
Final Comment
Dc got it right in the end with his substitutions but when will he get it right at the start and actually play players based on form. Too many unnecessary changes are being made and I really wonder if too much is based on the fitness guys reports but if that is the case why did he start with Partington who yesterday looked far from fit. Too many "projects" are now going wrong and perhaps DC should now select a sided for a number of games by playing his best side based on the last game.
If Partington, Sinclair and Leadbitter are all out on Tuesday I would play the following team
Slocombe
Lockyer Sweeney Broadbent Bola
Bodin Lines Sercombe O Clarke or Nicholls
Harrison Telford
