I've been watching the Gas since 1987, but didn't see any games between 1996 and 2006. Going on the football that I have seen, the players who had that little bit of extra class can make up nearly a whole team: GK: Nigel Martyn RB: ? LB: Vaughan Jones CB: Steve Yates CB: Steve Elliott RM: Billy Bodin CM: Ian Holloway CM: Chris Lines LM: Dennis Bailey CF: Rickie Lambert CF: Marcus Stewart Can't ever remember a classy right back! Any suggestions? Could Dennis Bailey play left wing? I really want him in the team, but let's be honest, Ollie would have to work bloody hard in that team! Maybe the balance is not quite right Phil Roberts?

Gary Penrice had brilliant control, never panicked, picked a pass, for Rovers was the best I have seen one on one with the goalkeeper.

Who is this Taylor bloke? All Taylors who have played for us can be considered class acts apart from the one who now plays across the city from us.

Without doubt and no possible argument - Mr unflappable - full of class and humility - Harry Bamford - if ever you saw him dribble the ball across his own goal line while under pressure then you cannot argue with my selection - he was superb.

Dribble the ball across his own goal line? Ha ha, how could you enjoy watching that? Everyone would be just crapping themselves!

In those days we used to enjoy football without the problems you suggest - and no, it was not an unusual occurrence by an excellent footballer - not many would have the courage or ability to do that now.

Courage? More like stupidity. Do that now and you would be straight out the door, how times change eh?

Maybe the balance is not quite right How come you got so lucky? Combination of factors, but I lived a long way from Bristol during that time. I always followed our results but returning to the area in 2006 rekindled my passion for the club. Now I live in the North East but still get to go to a few away matches each season.

Maybe the balance is not quite right Ian Alexander, David Pritchard and Michael Smith were all good RB's. Smith was the more talented of the 3 but I have some happy memories of Jockey and Pritch who were both full blooded defenders who must have been horrible to play against. Jockey was a funny f**ker too, always playing up to the popular side at twerton especially against the sh**.

Jocky was great. I loved him - especially playing the sh*t. Smith was a very good rb. I also thought Danny Woodards was a quality player.

I agree with both of the above but the task was to find class players. Jock and Pritch weren't this, for all their qualities. I was tempted to put Smith. He was very good for us but at a modest level. Good to see he has nailed down a starting place with Hearts.
