Game No 15
Opponents Plymouth Home Won 2-1
Team Performance Mark out of 10
Slocombe An excellent save from a Blissett snapshoit and unlucky not to save the equaliser. In truth didn't have much to do but could distribute quicker. 7
Partington Looks far better at right back than centre back, gave little away and a good crosser of the ball.Could well end up at CB next week which is a shame. Lucky to come out
of the sending off incident without a bad injury from what was a terrible tackle that warranted a red. 7
Lockyer 5.5 Probably deserved slightly higher but in truth is the weak link at the moment making regular mistakes which mar his performance. Will miss him next week only
because we don't really have a better replacement and how many teams can afford to play without both centre halves. Very lucky to have a regular place 5.5
Sweeney Reasonable game because in all honesty Plymouth didn't trouble us much but you can only come out on top of what you are playing and Sweeney won most battles. 7
Brown Good to see Browner back to his best. Very tough on Bola to be dropped but now Lee has to maintain this performance level to keep Bola out. Defended well and got forward
when he could. 7.5
Lines Is in a rich vein of form popping up everywhere and starting to dictate the pace of the game. Just wish he would shoot a bit more often as should score more goals but his
clever feet and holding onto the ball give his team mates the time and space to move up. 8
Sercombe Deserves another goal soon for his strong running and willingness to shoot. Looked like he had scored twice but alert or poor linesman gave the ball as out for
Browns cross which was headed home and offside as he prodded home Nicholls cross from close range. 8
O. Clarke Poor first half where he again struggled to get his game together but livened up after the break and completed the game strongly, hopefully will kick on from here. 7
Bodin Another quiet game for him but again showed why he has to be in the team with a fantastic finish for the winning goal. His goalscoring record at the moment is phenominal 7
Gaffney A fine goal when he controlled a cross from Ellis and cut inside making space to release a faultless finish. Unlucky not to score another and set up Bodin with another fine run
and cross. DC stop your changing and give this partnership a chance to flourish. 8.5 MOM
Harrison Led the line with gusto Gave the Plymouth defenders a torrid time with his strong skilful runs and set up Gaffney for the first. Ellis is in the middle of a good spell and
perhaps him and Gaffney can forge a partnership which is something we haven't really had for a while. Just pipped for MOM by Gaffney for me and twice unlucky not to scorer.. 8
Sub:
Nichols 7 Looked like a pre planned move to bring him on for a tiring Gaffney and he did everything apart from score in a bright cameo appearance. Lets hope that when the
first goal comes loads will follow. We can still hope.
Telford Not on long enough to mark.
Crowd The size of the crowd has obviously been affected by the less than impressive start and surely last season this game would have been a sell out. Reasonable atmosphere 7
Ref OK but not so convinced by his linesmen. Could he really see the ball go out of play for Browns cross that was dispatched with a great header by Sercombe? 6
Plymouth Luckily for them it is early days but really looked like a side who could well go down and I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the chants of "Sacked in the morning" come true very soon. If they had got anything out of the game it would have been total injustice as 5 or 6 -1 would have been a fair score on the day.
Team performance summed up An entertaining game that should have been out of Plymouths reach by half time and probably a cricket score come the end.
Defence summed up Every mistake made by our defenders is being punished at the present time and because of that we always look in danger of losing matches we should be winning. Lockyer in particular is suffering from lapses in concentration which is dragging his general performance down from 7 to 5. I still think we are much too deep and use our defenders as an outlet far too often when they are not the greatest with a ball at their feet.
Midfield summed up Mainly dictated the pace of the game and got stronger as the game went on.
Attack summed Up Plymouth were poor but we did look lively up front and Gaffney/Harrison looked like they could make a good partnership. Only trouble is we won 2-1 and it should have been 6.
Man of Match There were about 5 players in contention but I give it to Gaffney for scoring one and setting up the winner.
Final Comment At last DC gave a Gaffney/Harrison partnership a go and I hope he sticks with them for the next game rather than making more changes. Bola was IMO hard done by but in DC's defence Brown did come back and played very well. In all a good day for DC and the team but I am not sure we have turned any corners yet and only time will tell. Certainly at the moment we are a mid table team that give too many goals away with individual errors. The situation will not be helped next week if we have to enter a very winnable game with two central defenders lost to Internationals. UTG
