Well thats what my Father said today to all of us when Nicholls scored.........."for the first time in 16 games Nicholls was in the box today and he just scored"
Ok thats being a bit flippant but lets be honest, they set him up in the box today and he showed what he can do. But Nicholls I don't think has has a threaded pass into him all season in the box from a central midfielder or winger like of the one today.
The lad when he signed said he liked to play on the shoulder of a big bloke, think this was the first time today he's had a go at it but he still struggled for one obvious reason. We simply don't have any wingers so he finds himself out wide and anywhere but inside the 18 yard box.
I honestly think this boy could be a 20 goal a season striker if he's used in the right way. He got 13 last season for a struggling Peterborough side but what are the odds in the next project thats he's dropped or out wide again as part of a 3?
Play to his strengths and we could have a Cureton/Taylor on our hands.

How old are you?
People can make incorrect statements, there is a big difference between that and a lie or a liar.
But yes I think they struggled, Peterborough have a fantastic budget and their chairman at the end of the season said they should have done better on Twitter. It’s a bit like saying Liverpool finished 8th in the Premiership but never struggled.
I will also add their fans were calling for McCann’s head last season, do you do that when you are successful?
Back to Tom Nicholls, got 13 goals in a difficult season for Peterborough where the atmosphere was also not pleasant 👏🏻

It's like the team have been carrying him waiting for him to score.

The thing is though Adrian, Cureton would not do much in games but Nicholls like him is a Fox in the Box.
He needs to be judged in the right position and with better service. His link up play was brilliant at Northampton, I truly believe he will come good.

I think you could be right Paul but unfortunately I think we will not find out- reason because DC is not capable of finding either a targetman, two wingers or a defensive midfielder of quality in January.

Well He’s signed the majority of our current squad and we’re doing pretty well - 2 promotions then mid table and mid table again this season so far so I think he’s done alright in the transfer market. There seems to be this common thought that DC can’t spot or sign a good player but he’s consistently improved our squad year on year and our league position proves that.

Cureton and Taylor would have scored the chance on the first half which he scuffed and their keeper tipped round the post...
I really really hope he can now go on a run and finally show us what we spent the cash on. He's a tidy player and has ability no doubt, but a 20 goal man? I'm not yet convinced. (But would love to be proved wrong)

‘It’s a bit of semantics about the word “struggling” isn’t it? I know what Roadman means. Change of manager, Nicholls criticised by fans for not enough goals and eventually leaving, team not doing as well as expected, lots of players leaving at end of season would all mean that the team under-performed against the expectations fans had. So I wouldn’t disagree with the term struggling. I bet with increased expectations of fans here for this season some (not me) might say we struggled if we finish mid table this year. In the end it’s probably about expectations of fans and for Posh and their chairman it was a disappointing season. Just read their forum for end of last season. UTG!

He was given the ball to score but I really do hope he scores lots in the future. When he came I thought he was going to be better than Taylor but now I'm not sure if he's strong enough I do think Taylor benefitted from learning from Easter. I thought Gaffeney was excellent yesterday

One swallow doesn't make a summer for me and whilst I am glad he scored, he played no better or worse than most of his games this season. Only difference was that MK Dons made a silly mistake.

I'm never a believer in playing players out of position, if you play to the players strengths then the team will be stronger. Hate it when managers use the phrase, "he can do a job there" well that may be but doing a job and doing the right job are 2 different things. TN is an out and out off the shoulder striker. If the formation is right, he will score a hatfull. TN had a solid game today, neither outstanding or mediocre but took his chance well. We need 2 wingers in Jan, that would even improve Ellis game as well. He can play the 433 as he has a bit more strength and speed than TN.

If MK hadn't gifted him a goal he would have been subbed without scoring and the OP would have probably started a thread questioning why DC signed him, then SK would have posted something along the same lines questioning DC's ability to sign players.

How it was set up is kinda irrelevant. He still had to finish it and he could have fluffed it. Fine margins in football.

This was exactly the type of chance MT would have missed - one on one, had time to think, whoops! missed! Credit to the lad - he scored.

I think our fans have been brilliant with Nichols by the way. As we were with Luke James last season. I've not heard anyone get on Nichols back at games and if you compare that to Peterborugh where he was top scorer and still getting stick, he msut be really appreciative of our support.
