A half hearted report this week which matches the entertainment or lack of it that was dished up. Last week I missed my first game for a few years and all I can say tonight is that I wished I'd have stayed on holiday a few more days such was the crap that was dished up by a team who honestly now look like they have met for the first time and my main question would be "What on earth do they do in training"?. the first important thing to say is that this like Notts County, Swindon,West Ham under23s and most of the teams we have played this season was a rank average League 1 team that we gave the freedom of the park with a mix of no understanding, individual mistakes , a system that nobody appears to know what their part is and a team that seems intent on passing sideways and back where each pass puts the team in more trouble. the front players come back so far to try to get the ball and then the bloody keeper spends the entire game hoofing the ball up to the opposition.
I despair where our next point will come from and we are a CLUB that looks in total downfall with no leadership either on the field or off it. We are a total shambles and it is about time that the "nicey nicey" owner provides some leadership and tells us what the bloody hell is happening to our club. I wish I could say that DC will get it right - I thought he would but I now have total doubt as to whether he has the ability to put it right- I certainly have little faith that he is capable of making the sort of signings we need in January unless he receives help from an experienced person who has the knowledge of quality players and probably the charisma needed to persuade them to come.
Smith 5 Some good saves but no command of six yard box and nearly gave away another calamity when dropping a simple ball
Leadbitter 5 Attacking wise did well but went missing on at least two goals- needs to get defending right FIRST
Lockyer 2 Welsh international-my ass.
Broadbent 3 Too many mistakes but not helped b y more experienced players- at least he can pass a ball
Brown 3 Great goal but another who needs to get defending right as priority
Sinclair 2 Most over rated player in the squad, perhaps put his head on the other way and he might make a forward pass
O Clarke 1 Was he out there today? A long rest needed
Lines 3 We don't need a player playing right in front of a back four who all seem to play more forward than him- must be DC awful tactics
Sercombe 6 The best midfielder but lost out wide.
Harrison 6 Runs about but has to run everywhere to get the ball and then we have no striker at all
Nichols 3 There's a player in there but totally lost as is our forward line in general
Subs:
Sweeney 6 better than what he replaced but the damage had already been done
Bodin 6 Obviously lacking match fitness but skill is always there
Gaffney 6 Why can't DC just stick with him for a few games and tell him he is a centre forward
Crowd 3 Can we really be blamed when such pathetic performances are now becoming the norm.
Ref 6 Ok
Dons 7 Another rank average team that make us look stupid
Dc 1 has now changed so much that he doesn't know where to start. He has provided us with a lightweight team that EVERY team we play can now dominate us all over the pitch. He must select a team and stick with it till January barring injuries and leave out some of his obvious favourites.
I have no magic answer to our problems other than picking a team and saying to them that if they perform well they will keep their places for at least 5 games. We need the back four to earn their money as DEFENDERS and push up with Sweeney organising to ensure defenders are marking opponents. We must work on pressurising from the front and the discipline must be concentrated on imposing OUR game on the opposition rather than the present which allows the opposition to impose itself on us home or away! Team
Slocombe Leadbitter Sweeney Broadbent Bola
Bodin Sercombe (Captain) Lines Harrison
Gaffney Nicholls
Unless I witness a great improvement at Blackburn next week than I won't be attending many more away games as at present it is a waste of time and money. UTG

UTG Brilliant. Harrison, Bodin, Gaffney and Nicholls away at Blackburn. What could possibly go wrong. Another emotional post which lacks perspective. We're on a poor run and our confidence is clearly very low right now. It's football. We've been spoilt for the last three years and expectation now surpasses reality for many.

So we go to Blackburn with the same attitude as Scunthorpe and another defeat. Defenders have to start defending and let the attack do their job. We are not on a poor run we are on a diabolical run both in form and performances.

Funny how whenever we lose, Sinclair, Brown, Lockyer and DC always get the blame...and always for the same reasons each time. It's all getting a tad predictable.
Football will always be about opinions...that's part of the appeal, enabling fans to debate in the pub or, these days, on forums. For what it's worth, I thought that Sercombe was our worst player today. I do rate him (albeit share concerns about him being in the same side as Lines, particularly away from home), but felt he was very poor today. Out wide isn't his best position, but it's not completely alien to him. He has played there before. Either way, it's no excuse for standing still and allowing the 2nd Wimbledon goalscorer a free run at an unprotected defence.
I reckon only 3 players came out with any credit today. Sinclair for giving everything and never giving up, Ellis for pretty much the same, and Leads for at least providing some kind of spark. If only he could cross a ball...
Perhaps we should give the opposition some credit too. They closed us down consistently, giving our defenders no time on the ball. Taylor particularly was a handful all afternoon. Like it or not, we have no divine right to beat teams just because they are "small" or below us. Today, we were outplayed by a decent team that played better than their league position suggests.
Anyway, whatever the rights and wrongs and our different opinions, this is a time for Gasheads to unite. We have a manager who has achieved great things for our club and could have easily walked away to better things before now. Surely he has earned our patience and our backing now we've hit a rough patch. Let's get behind the biggest asset we have at the club.
Rosetinter? Maybe, but I prefer the word "supporter". Let the manager do what he does best (and better than anyone a club like ours is going to attract, I'd argue) and lets start doing what we're here to do...support.

Usually the op"s reports are articulate but the crass comments about sinclair and lockyer fall below the normal standard. Luckily for us lines was only utterly crap because dc made him sit deep, there was me thinking it was his fault.

For me the situation is pretty simple, if rumours are true and I believe they are ,the summer transfer activity was unexpectedly cut short, otherwise he simply would not of let Montano go so early. DC has always had a squad with options in every position and now for the first time in three years he has a squad without balance. He has no left wide players , IMO Byron Moore "best" performances have been on the right and he is the option for Bodin. there is no Monkhouse type player to protect Brown and allow him to get forward, consequently that pulls the back four out of position and we have players like Gaffney and Harrison who spend more time having to chase balls into the corners than in the box where they should be hurting sides. IMO both Goalkeepers are competent at this level but are being exposed, Sercombe and Nicholls are quality footballers when those four signed I was starting to believe with a couple more it could happen ,then it stopped. We all know where we are short of quality many have been saying it all season and DC more than anyone will know, I fear though come January the money for the right players will not be available and any signings will be loans or kids though with the development squad we seem to have an abundance of those.
DC knows what he is doing but is now in the situation of trying to make a silk purse out of a sows ear, he will like any manager worth his salt protect his players of that I am convinced as for those above him in the food chain I am not convinced at all and most probably why he is over here and not at his desk at the bank !!

Spot on stevek the ship got no captain, no crew and there's no idea from anyone at the club were adrift in the high seas sinking to the bottom of the ocean.

The holes can be plugged until Jan - we have the players just down to DC to get them working positively together again!

For me we need reassurance from Waq about what direction he intends to take the Pirate ship towards, because in my mind it is badly affecting DC, clarke has started moaning in the press, he looks shattered and needs direction and support from his boss.

Why should the OP waste £50+ of his hard earned money plus a day of his life watching away games? This is now probably the worse squad of players since McGoo's spell in charge came to a sorry end, as at least Ward's team was capable of pulling off the odd away win and also not getting thrashed every away game.

That's okay but 8000 people yesterday could see you can't play sincs or sercs out wide,Ollie Clarke lost it and TB out of his depth the teams all over the ship and yeah I think DC feeling sea sick because I know I am.

It could well be true that the ending of the UWE project made the owners reduce the budget for D.C. last minute, thus altering who he could bring in at the end of the window. It would make sense as building a more expensive squad to play at UWE is correct but a more expensive squad to play at 1980s standard Mem no that doesn't make sense. I have been saying it for months it seems but the team has no defensive ability (either tactically/positionally or physically) in midfield. The only player with that ability is Clarke who is being overwhelmed it seems with the total responsibility and his game is falling apart . Im sure the mockers will pipe up but Rovers need to play Bola left midfield (or left back with Brown in front of him) Only one of Sercombe or Lines can start the game. Right midfield should be Bodin or Harrison . The other central midfield spot has to be therefore either Ollie Clarke or Partington or Broadbent. Im actually tempted to put Broadbent in there...can pass and will put some physicality in the middle of the pitch.
Sweeney and Lockyer..despite the moaning are good centrebacks. They would not be continuously being called up by their countries if they were not. They are just both young and lack some leadership and positional expertise. With two young centrebacks its up to either one of the older fullbacks or the keeper to take control of organisation of the back four.
Up front Gaffney is the only consistent league goalscorer and as such should be the first name on the teamsheet. Alongside him can be either Nichols or Telford...both have yet to prove themselves in the league.
Slocombe
Brown Lockyer Sweeney Leadbitter
Bola Broadbent Sercombe/Lines Bodin/Harrison
Gaffney Nichols/Telford
The options will most likely be the substitute changes.
There is absolutely no point in slagging players off or the manager or the team...what can that possibly achieve ? except lower self belief and alienation of players from the fans/club. Time to work as one and try to be supportive.Maybe look at the ten good things a player did in the game rather than the one or two bad things they do ? Try not to confuse issues. The stadium or training complex issues have nothing to do with Tom Lockyer for example so don't let those frustrations get vented onto him or others in the team.
Look at yourself honestly and decide ,are you a supporter a spectator a critic a hater a fanatic
think about the meanings of those words
ALL just an opinion to ponder.

A lot of the crew need to be dropped off at the next port. For me l would make Sercombe the captain and play him through thr middle, move lockyer in front of the back four and loan out OC and sincs

For what it's worth, we attended the same game as the ratings thread would confirm with our similar ratings scores. We are in deep trouble and I fear the rudder has fallen off and the bilge pumps have failed. UTO!

What we need to do is batten down the hatches and sail through until the storm blows itself out. We might be in the doldrums, but we need to look for a fair wind and then set sail for distant shores. We need all hands on deck and all men at the pump in order to keep us afloat and weigh the anchor. We need to climb the rigging and splice the mainbrace and sing a shanty.
Am I doing this right?
Does anyone want to see my booty?
