Seems like a lot of rats are ready to jump ship before it sinks rather than staying and helping to bale it out. Why should the OP waste £50+ of his hard earned money plus a day of his life watching away games? This is now probably the worse squad of players since McGoo's spell in charge came to a sorry end, as at least Ward's team was capable of pulling off the odd away win and also not getting thrashed every away game. Away win and ward in the same sentence? Terrible post topper , you've had a nightmare there.

No one played well. Sometimes that's all that needs to be said. The vile finger pointing, taking every player to the court Marshall only further shoots down confidence. Lots of changes needed. Upset fans understood.
But smith had a fair game. No goals came from not commanding his area. That's simply false. Dropped one: yes, true. Lots of what the op says just isn't true, overboard. We're, struggling hard at the moment. Need something a bit fresh.
Personally, not against asking Manse to go buy some shin pads...

For me the situation is pretty simple, if rumours are true and I believe they are ,the summer transfer activity was unexpectedly cut short, otherwise he simply would not of let Montano go so early. DC has always had a squad with options in every position and now for the first time in three years he has a squad without balance. He has no left wide players , IMO Byron Moore "best" performances have been on the right and he is the option for Bodin. there is no Monkhouse type player to protect Brown and allow him to get forward, consequently that pulls the back four out of position and we have players like Gaffney and Harrison who spend more time having to chase balls into the corners than in the box where they should be hurting sides. IMO both Goalkeepers are competent at this level but are being exposed, Sercombe and Nicholls are quality footballers when those four signed I was starting to believe with a couple more it could happen ,then it stopped. We all know where we are short of quality many have been saying it all season and DC more than anyone will know, I fear though come January the money for the right players will not be available and any signings will be loans or kids though with the development squad we seem to have an abundance of those. DC knows what he is doing but is now in the situation of trying to make a silk purse out of a sows ear, he will like any manager worth his salt protect his players of that I am convinced as for those above him in the food chain I am not convinced at all and most probably why he is over here and not at his desk at the bank !! welk written post there Langford, that's pretty much how I see things too!

Thanks for the write up Steve.
The worry for me was playing sercs and Sinclair out of position. They aren't wingers and it showed badly yesterday.
I thought sercs had a great game even on the left wing and I would like to see him and Lines in a midfield two as OC has been anonymous so far this season.
Unfortunately the summer has left the squad unbalanced so if we're gonna play 4-4-2 we have to have Broom/Bola/Bodin as wingers not playing CMs out there.

Many different and plausible opinions expressed here and I too have opinions on what the team should be and changes I would make. And of course I think I know better than DC - but do I? - almost certainly not! Except for one thing which I believe the majority of posters agree on - I would like to see the same line-up for at least 5 games -home and away (subject to injury and suspension) given a chance. We would probably all select different players but regardless at least we could lay that thought to bed.

IMO strategies on and off the field are biting us on the backside now, and DC must carry at least one handle of the can. I feel he believed his own hype and thereby has patently shied away from help and experience in the squad and on the coaching side. He has mishandled public remonstrations of players and their futures in the past, and he has been responsible for recruitment, irrespective of budget. It has been obvious to many of us for so long that we have needed an experienced midfield shield to the back 3 or 4. DC has talents, but now is the time to bring in an experienced, respected ex- manager to take an objective,step-back overview of the playing strategy and personnel. DC can then go into the recruitment market in January with much better perspective than has been evident so far. Problem is, where do we get such a mentor for DC?

Well according to DC he has been after a defensive coach and offered two people it who turned it down. I dont think he is against having help or experience, but like any manager he wants the right players/people to work with I agree some of tbe recruitment hasnt gone well, but i dont beleive it wasnt because he didnt want a midfielder or a winger, but he couldnt get who he wanted for whatever reason.

Ah,yes, like the Rofe/Allison scenario of the early '90s. That worked out well. I'm not entirely disagreeing with you, but human nature being what it is,it's not likely to work.

We've a clear run of game now with no internationals so we may as well give Locks & Sweeney a run of games and pray they find some form, although are they under so much pressure as problems starts further up the pitch, Harrison/Nichols never hold the ball up front, OC & Co can't tackle and we've no width w/o Bodin for an hour yesterday it was a constant stream of attacks, as soon as we took the game to them at 3-0 Locks & Sweeney looked comfortable (I think!).

Totally agree Steve...
When you look at the starting line up it looks like the line up you get when a player is sent off in the game and it’s all make shift and don’t stand a chance....
I don’t get why everything is so obvious to the fans and not to the manager who keeps bleating” I’ve been here before and around along time” ?
You would think your listening to fergie talking!!
It’s always the same...bad team selections and formations back fire on him and the past gets dredged up! And coming from someone who always talks about the future???
I fear bodin has made his mind up and will be gone in January which will be the nail in the coffin as the last 8 games speaks volumes
I can imagine a lot of fans now want to have a meeting with dc and wael and tell some home truths like
Wael stop talking to random news articles about faith and tell us exactly what’s going on...
Darrell your job is to find a winning team and stick with and keep it that way and let players play on merit...
Stop playing Lockyer and Brown and have balls and drop them
Can you please stop Tom getting the ball belting it to Nichols who’s never gonna win anything, when was the last time we scored a goal from a flick on anyway? Last time must have been when we had Taylor up front!
Lines thinks he’s a league 1 Pirlo playing in a quarter back role in front of our back four which leaves one centre mid against 2 of theirs
Smith is nowhere near good enough for league one and looks like he needs a lot of training to get him there...he can’t command his 6 yard box let alone his 18,
Slocombe
Leads/mayo/Sweeney/bola Bodin/sercombe/lines/Moore Gaffney/Harrison
That’s still a make shift selection as Moore is shocking but least he stays out wide!

A half hearted report this week which matches the entertainment or lack of it that was dished up. Last week I missed my first game for a few years and all I can say tonight is that I wished I'd have stayed on holiday a few more days such was the crap that was dished up by a team who honestly now look like they have met for the first time and my main question would be "What on earth do they do in training"?. the first important thing to say is that this like Notts County, Swindon,West Ham under23s and most of the teams we have played this season was a rank average League 1 team that we gave the freedom of the park with a mix of no understanding, individual mistakes , a system that nobody appears to know what their part is and a team that seems intent on passing sideways and back where each pass puts the team in more trouble. the front players come back so far to try to get the ball and then the bloody keeper spends the entire game hoofing the ball up to the opposition. I despair where our next point will come from and we are a CLUB that looks in total downfall with no leadership either on the field or off it. We are a total shambles and it is about time that the "nicey nicey" owner provides some leadership and tells us what the bloody hell is happening to our club. I wish I could say that DC will get it right - I thought he would but I now have total doubt as to whether he has the ability to put it right- I certainly have little faith that he is capable of making the sort of signings we need in January unless he receives help from an experienced person who has the knowledge of quality players and probably the charisma needed to persuade them to come. Smith 5 Some good saves but no command of six yard box and nearly gave away another calamity when dropping a simple ball Leadbitter 5 Attacking wise did well but went missing on at least two goals- needs to get defending right FIRST Lockyer 2 Welsh international-my ass. Broadbent 3 Too many mistakes but not helped b y more experienced players- at least he can pass a ball Brown 3 Great goal but another who needs to get defending right as priority Sinclair 2 Most over rated player in the squad, perhaps put his head on the other way and he might make a forward pass O Clarke 1 Was he out there today? A long rest needed Lines 3 We don't need a player playing right in front of a back four who all seem to play more forward than him- must be DC awful tactics Sercombe 6 The best midfielder but lost out wide. Harrison 6 Runs about but has to run everywhere to get the ball and then we have no striker at all Nichols 3 There's a player in there but totally lost as is our forward line in general Subs: Sweeney 6 better than what he replaced but the damage had already been done Bodin 6 Obviously lacking match fitness but skill is always there Gaffney 6 Why can't DC just stick with him for a few games and tell him he is a centre forward Crowd 3 Can we really be blamed when such pathetic performances are now becoming the norm. Ref 6 Ok Dons 7 Another rank average team that make us look stupid Dc 1 has now changed so much that he doesn't know where to start. He has provided us with a lightweight team that EVERY team we play can now dominate us all over the pitch. He must select a team and stick with it till January barring injuries and leave out some of his obvious favourites. I have no magic answer to our problems other than picking a team and saying to them that if they perform well they will keep their places for at least 5 games. We need the back four to earn their money as DEFENDERS and push up with Sweeney organising to ensure defenders are marking opponents. We must work on pressurising from the front and the discipline must be concentrated on imposing OUR game on the opposition rather than the present which allows the opposition to impose itself on us home or away! Team Slocombe Leadbitter Sweeney Broadbent Bola Bodin Sercombe (Captain) Lines Harrison Gaffney Nicholls Unless I witness a great improvement at Blackburn next week than I won't be attending many more away games as at present it is a waste of time and money. UTG Anyone who watched that game and thought Broadbent had a better game than Lockyer is either blind or is biased/has a agenda. I've been impressed by Broadbent this season but yesterday he stood out like a sore thumb. Lockyer hasn't been good this season but yesterday his performance definitely warranted more than a 2/10. He wasn't at fault for any of the goals and didn't give the ball away that I can recall.

Some good valid points by all whether or not they agree with mine. The one point I would comment on is regarding Leadbitter and in many ways Brown and I fail to see why DC cannot see it but when you are letting in goals left right and centre surely it is important that your full backs get their DEFENSIVE duties right first? We seem to be doing the opposite and the effect of this is that the entire rest of our team are having to come back to help our two centre halves who are struggling themselves. A defensive coach IMO is not the answer- how many bloody coaches do we need? We are NOT in any shape or form a Premiership club and seem to have all these background folk coming in without getting the main area right- the players. Fitness coaches are there providing DC with I would imagine loads of graphs and figures which will probably provide us with a team of Sinclair robots- I would lay odds on him coming out like a knight in armour on every chart produced but that does not provide us with players who can pass forward, be creative or technically skilful.
As regard a coach or mentor I too remember the Allison/ Rofe partnership which character wise is probably the best example of any partnership for DC as the Trollope/ Lawrence worked well because Trollope was more interested in coaching rather than managing and quite happy to have a father figure there making suggestions and decisions. DC comes across to me as being a bit of a dictator and they don't take kindly to any help unless it is below them. I would also say that I wonder in hindsight if John ward woiulkd have appointed DC as his number 2?
The old phrase TOO MANY CHIEFS AND NOT ENOUGH INDIANS comes to mind when I think of the monster that Wael seems to be creating and probably as an added bonus- too many young braves.
