As an experienced professional perhaps a bit more leadership from Lines on the field is expected by DC ? Better still leave Lines out altogether. He creates very little, and even I could get one Hollywood pass out of every 5 to get to one of our players. Other than that he can't tackle, can't head a ball, and hits about one decent shot a season. Just not good enough. It beggars belief with such a poor CM we got promoted twice and finished in our highest league position for 17 years! Next week when we've created little for 60 mins posters will be saying why did DC start with Lines on the bench. Why can't we just have a balanced view, Lines needs a rest/kick up the backside once he's had that he'll probably come back stronger.

Why does Parts have to be captain when he seems to have organised the defence well enough yesterday as one of the 10 plebs.

I must admit I am in the Lockyer should not be captain camp, but what seems to matter more is players in right position and being organised on the pitch. DC chooses the position but its less easy to organise from the dug out so that is needed from somebody on the pitch. My sense is we have had Maca, Mildy, Mansell all doing this in recent years and I think Lumley and Sweeney did it last season too. If Parts playing there is good in position terms and he can pitch in with organising (easier to do if central) then great as far as I am concerned. Last week we saw it didn't suit Linesy to play there and he isn't an organiser either. But I do think leaving Lines out long term is not a good idea as he is our only creative midfielder

Linesy is more effective playing further up the field, I am still unsure he and Sercombe can be effective together. He certainly should not be playing in front of the back 4. I have a feeling something is not quite right with D.C. and Linesy though I am not in the know!!

IMO Joe Partington, along with Ellis, were both excellent yesterday, true, first game in that position, but surely worth a run in the side on that showing.

Perhaps, as with many things in football, it's about balance and partnerships? Players playing in their correct position? Lines and Mansell worked incredibly well as they complimented each other. Maybe Lines and Partington might work too? Lines and Sinclair clearly doesn't (Sinclair is a hustler but not a defensive midfielder). When Lines plays in front of the defence surely no-one sees him being there to "defend and tackle"; he's there to start an attack. Yes cover as well but not in the way a defensive midfielder would.

007 forecasted this set up midweek suggesting Parts play ib that position. Parts played in that position as a youngster for, Southampton?, can't remember. Well done double 0 Severn! sure did! Me and DC are like 🤞🏻 that mentally!

Just watched Joe's post match interview. Really impressed with how the guy speaks, especially about the fans at the end.
Top man, I hope he can continue the form he showed Saturday.

Literally just logged on after watching his interview to say exactly the same thing, very impressed with him and how he came across. Roll on Saturday, not an easy game but think we can turn this bad run around.

You can see exactly why DC brought him to the club just from that interview, and the same intelligence is his biggest quality on the field. Looks a future manager to me.

Have to agree with the general consensus, Partington really stood out for me, and as others have said, came across really well in the interview. Maybe giving Lockyer a rest from the responsibility of captaincy might help him to concentrate on his game, Partington looks capable of taking over the role.

My take on things is play partington in the holding midfield on saturday and see how it goes. Like all our defenders hes had his problems this season but maybe this position could be a chance to establish himself in the team. Dont agree with the captain thing, maybe next season if he becomes a regular and earns a new contract.
