For me
No change for a change, unless fitness or injury concerns - today was impressive on both attacking and defending front - keep the faith and go again! Plus keep using the gaffers throw! UTG!

Let's hope we have no changes as it seemed to click today ! But we are away and DC has his own mind and thoughts on his different projects But today for me looked a better balanced team based on the fact we didn't try to accommodate players for the sake of justifying a place for them

Same again for me please! If it ain't broke don't try and fix it.
Really liked that set up yesterday, the one change of bringing in Gaffers in just added the extra potency in attack that we needed building on the solid selection we had the week before.
Absolutely loved watching Ellis, Rory, Sercs and Bodin playing together, they gave the shrimpers defence a torrid time.
Glad DC has finally seen sense and put Nichols on the bench instead of Gaffers. Nichols should have to earn his way back into the starting 11, he has been given more than enough opportunities so far this season.

Yes the same team for me. Gillingham lost to Argyle yesterday and must be there for the taking. My only concern is that we don't always raise our game against teams we should beat

No changes for me. Great skilful football, brilliant to watch. Well done DC and team, stick with it

I agree with the O.P just like to add that yesterdays game was very very entertaining game to watch. I really enjoyed the game, not something that has always happened, even when we win.
The change in Ellis this past season is nothing short of a miricle. He actually started to phisically dominate their back four, a bit like Andy Rammel used to do.
Any scouts there would have been impressed with him and Leadbitter who I thought was MOTM.

Its funny how everyone was saying how terrible 4-3-3 was before but now everyone wants to use it again and in an away match. Im happy if he plays the same team but i think its possible dc will play an extra midfield player instead of rory at gillingham.

I dont think it was a 4.3.3 formation more a 4.1. 3.2 fluid formation

Yes you could be right, we could set up like we were against Rotherham (slightly more defensive) look to keep it tight for the first half then unleash our very own ginga ninja in the second half! That could work quite well for away games.

i think DC has found a system that works with the players he has available.
apart from 10 minutes in the first half yesterday, defensively we looked sound.. to pick one of the 4 out, Leadbitter looks like he has found some confidence again. Together the back 4 looked strong.
Stand out player for me was Joe Partington, was superb in the holding role, broke down everything Southend had to offer, put tackles in and got the ball forward with simple passes. Sinclair, is a work horse and again his running was fantastic, his energy makes a difference. Sercombe and Bodin were brilliant, the two of them playing well, gave the opposition lots to think about.
Ellis and Gaffers also looked great and dangerous all game.
There looks to be confidence in this 11, players happy with the system. Pleasee keep it the same DC. Yesterday was a joy to watch. more of the same.

This must be the first formation thread in Gaschat's history where everyone has agreed on something. Yesterday's lineup was very entertaining to watch and contained all the right ingredients for a successful team. As somebody else has already said, if it ain't broke don't fix it!

The difference between 4-3-3 with Bodin rather than Nichols is the that former does his fair share of defending, so 4-3-3 becomes 4-4-2 when we're defending, we now need Gaffers & co to put in a Northampton type performance next week, rather than do the usual this season and fail to turn up away from home.

It's not just about the formation but the players used in whatever system. It will work great with some players , awful with others.

Break the norm and win away!

I must admit bodin put in a real shift defensively,I reckon the management team and players have worked very hard tactically and physically to tighten us up as a defensive unit.

I was driving at that really, any formation can work as long as the players do the job you want them too. It will be interesting to see if dc picks gaffney, harrison and bodin next week or picks a more cautious team ie ollie clarke instead of gaffney.

For me, one of the reasons we did so well on Saturday, was because Clarke and Nichols spent a combined time of about three minutes on the pitch.
