I wonder what you guys think DC's preferred line up and formation will be following BB's departure? Assuming no imminent signings and with the remaining squad member's being fit and available I'd go with the following if we had a game this week,
Smith Leads, Locks, Sweeney, Broadbent, Bola/Brown (5 at the back with wing backs) Lines, Partington, Sercombe (Narrow with Sercombe slightly advanced of the other two) Harrison and Nicholls
Can't see 4-4-2 being viable with only Broom and Moore as wide options. Also, anyone playing wide right in the coming weeks/months will unfairly be measured against BB who is different class at this level.

Smith Leads, Locks, Sweeney, Broadbent, Brown Sercombe Lines, Partington, Bola Harrison and Nicholls
We need to star playing with some pace, Bola would be perfect to add that down the left handside, was brilliant at wolves getting forward.
We need Experince now at this level in center of midfield and upfront. A couple wide player, but they need to be good enough quality to start, i would ideally like to Sercombe back in the middle.

Smith Leads, Locks, Sweeney, Broadbent, Brown Sercombe Lines, Partington, Bola Harrison and Nicholls Coz we need an extra player to make up for Bodin's absence.

Similar to my line up except you've managed to sneak in an extra player. I'm up for it if we can get it past the match officials 😉

The one benefit that I can see about the departure of Bodin is that DC is now forced into making a decision about the shape that we play in the future.
In my mind, we currently have a good squad of players who are capable of competing at this level. However, we didn't have the right players in the right places to enable us to fit into any consistent shape. Again, in my mind, we had three stand out players (Bodin, Lines & Sercombe) who could hold their place easily in any team at this level. Unfortunately, it was impossible to play all three of them in a balanced team without at least one of them playing out of position.
I believe that we suffered as a result of that.
I am hoping that the departure of Bodin will release the funds that will enable DC to build a far better balanced squad than we have at the moment and that we can now move in the right direction.
1) I think that Sercombe is more than capable of acting in the attacking Midfielder role and replacing BBs goals 2) I think that either Harrison or Gaffney are capable as acting as the spearhead of our attack 3) I am hoping that we will see the signing of one, if not two widemen to give us wider options and get out balls 4) I think that the advent of Partington in the Defensive Midfield role has stabalised us at the back somewhat - whether he can nail down that position as his own or whether we will recruit into it is up to DC 5) Broadbent is a revelation at the centre of defence - what a find 6) We need wide defensive cover if we are going to use the full backs as attacking threats too. LeadBitter fits the role but is injury prone this year. Bola is very promising but is only on loan. 7) Great opportunity for Nicholls to step out of BBs Shadow, to play in his preferred position and to show us what he really can do.
There you go - an attack of the new year's rose tinters

For me unless we make to wide signings before our next game we have no choice but to play wing backs. I just hope DL is fit again next game or we will be very one dimensional.

Well we might have a few new players before the Blackpool game, also are leads and Moore gonna be available by then?? Moore can like for like swap with Billy in terms of keeping the same formations (not ideal in many peoples opinions i’m sure lol) but 5 at the back with J. Clarke and Leads injured leaves us defenderless on the bench doesn’t it? Could cause head aches if more people get injured.. I think we need to just get a couple of new faces in asap

Suddenly he's the hottest free agent in the summer with every league one and championship side battling for his services. Will members of this forum be hopping mad saying the board should have seen this coming, we've let another of our best players leave and why wasn't he under a long term contract which would have enabled us to sell for millions!!!!!

Smith Brown Lockyer Broadbent Leads
Partington
Sercombe Sinclair lines
Harrison gaffney
Width to come from fullbacks with Partington providing cover/protection
Sincs as the ball winner/water carrier in the middle with creativity coming from Lines and Sercs.
None of this is ideal, and is obvious we need 2 new wingers at the club urgently as we have zero options currently.

No. Three central defenders and two wing backs. Three in centre midfield, one of which holding the other two very much attack minded and then two out and out strikers. I don't see why that line up shouldn't create chances and score goals? Can be viewed as 5-3-2 or 3-5-2.

Brown and Partington get into really good positions but their final ball into the box is quite poor. I wonder how much improvement can be made through coaching ? Or if they simply dont have it.

Smith in goal with 2 full backs, each laying off either to the right or left. 3 central defenders playing off the shoulder of the full backs. 3 central midfielders playing just in front or between the central defenders to protect and strengthen the defence. 2 strikers lying deep to enable quick counter attacks and rapid running into the channels. 5 subs on the bench as and if necessary. No12 shirt to support the team as often as time and money permits. Rose tinters, optomists and calm and collected supporters allowed to cheer from the rafters. UTG
