Looking at the table we are smack bang in mid table although nearer points wise to the bottom 4 rather than the top 7. Which is probably, table wise, the best it’s been for almost 10 years. But this forum has been so negative this season and I’m sure it is because of the UWE/dround announcements 3 days before the season started and an almost silent owner since. It’s easy to get down about the ground stuff but I’ve tried to look to the team as opposed to the other which I can’t do anything about. In the last few months we’ve beaten Portsmouth, Bradford and Rotherham all after being behind and they are all competing for the play offs. We were unlucky not to get anything at Blackburn. We are well below Wigan at the moment but so are most teams and Shrewsbury have gone a different way to us in having more loans to take them to the top. It’s worked for them this season but it might not next season.I saw us outplay R and B but missed the Pompey match and I’m sure there will be others who’ve seen us more than me but imo DC is absolutely right to be picky over who he signs. The characters in our squad appear to be top class and Mensah joining seems to be a really positive, good addition. So yes I hope we sign a few more but we’re doing ok and with TL and TB signing new contracts we might have learnt some lessons from MT and BB. Not being itk means I’m probably unaware of some stuff others seem to know chapter and verse about but so what I’m never sure if they really do know stuff or are making half a fact or just a rumour go a long long way. Whatever, im looking forward to the rest of the season, perhaps 1/2 more signings but knowing that we will have a goodish squad in place for next season. UTG!

I think we’ll finish closer to the play offs than relegation which considering we’ve lost our two best players in the last year won’t have been too bad. UTG

Someone once said "The only way to get out of mediocrity is to keep shooting for excellence"
Mediocrity is fine for me at the moment but not aiming for more is a dangerous game.

Bang on the money and I think 95% of our fanbase feel the same.
The other 5% are the fans who are new and expect instant success after 2 promotions and a takeover, genuine pessimists or fans who don't want to see us stagnate but perhaps come across as negative because of it.
You'll always get the first two and there's nothing wrong with being the third type but sometimes people come across the wrong way especially on forums.
Unfortunately as well, the 5% will always shout the loudest. Speak to most gasheads and they'll share your views.

After going through the hell of relegation to the Conference, mellowing about in League 1 will do me for quite some time.

Yes I agree but I suppose it’s how you see “shooting for excellence.” I would say gradual improvement in the squad with 1/2 player signings who go straight into the team. Keeping DC is very important. Continuing with the development squad with a hope that this time next year we’re beginning to see a couple of them in the match day squads. Those things in a sustainable way would be great imo. Unfortunately I think the ground issues will always be the elephant in the room kind of thing until something is done to resolve it, Whatever, UTG!

And in a similar vein we all look jealously at Swansea, Bournemouth, Reading, Brighton and wonder “if only....” Sometimes I look at Stockport, Wrexham, Hartlepool, York, Kidderminster, Chester, Barrow, Boston, Darlington and think “Wow, thank DC and some others that we avoided that.... if Lee M hadn’t...” So overall could be better but it could be a lot worse. UTG!

If we'd hadn't won on Saturday then we'd only be a couple of points off the drop zone that's how tight Div 1 is this season, I feel we still need to recruit well in January, and not lose Harrison etc or we could still get sucked back into a relegation fight, bearing in mind we've still got to play Shrewsbury, Blackburn & Wigan at home and remain on a long win less run away from home. I still we need somebody with a bit of flair who can replace BB/MT goals wise.

We could be playing in the champions league in an updated 35,000 capacity Mem and we'd still have members of our fanbase having a moan.

UTG! Tranmere? That could have been us. So when the "let's spend, where has the Bodin money gone, top 6 budget why aren't we buying, no ambition" brigade find their voice, I just thank God we haven't got Ebbsfleet away Saturday.

It’s a shame that we haven’t got Ebbsfleet away this Saturday, as it would mean that we would be in the 4th round of the FA cup.

Is that it then, not to expect anything simply because we were playing in the conference a few seasons ago?
This is the sort of talk that will get us right back there imo.
