Normally we only slate new players before they've kicked a ball.
Good to see us upping our game and getting at them before they've even signed.
Craig out.

Talking to a Millwall supporter last night, he can't see him leaving London area. I guess we will see in time.

No they aren't but Millwall is his. Just in general not keen on signing players on the way down especially after his success of going up with Millwall through the playoffs, will he have the same motivation for us? Craig's never player, nor I assume lived, outside of London so it's a Robbie Ryan type transfer to move at this stage of his career, a move to Southend would make a lot more sense, the only thing I can think of is perhaps Easter's sold Rovers to him. Plus if he does sign then for another 6 months we've got Brown & Bola fighting for just a place on the bench unless Brown is off to Exeter? Yeah that's what I have been thinking the most. Surely there are other league one teams within the area, like Southend, or even a little further out (Gillingham) who he could sign for (even if just on loan for now) without having to re-locate. He would certainly bring experience and be able to play in two positions. Again, maybe its more to do with planning for next season with the opportunity to bring him in now and assuming we wont see either Swenney or Bola next season?

Not slating him just several questions mark over the signing for me. You can skin a cat different ways. I actually think it's interesting to discuss new signings but there you go.

I don't see where Craig fits in tbh. He wants to leave to get games but where will he play for us. He sounds like a LB/left sided CB. Well we have Broadbent in great form at LCB and Sweeney as back up and then if he plays LB, what will that mean for Lee Brown? He has only started 1 league game for Millwall this season though so I guess any game time is better than none! Another thing concerning me with Craig is that he is a Millwall fan. Will he have the same heart and passion playing for us as them? I agree about the left sided point. It may just be that DC thinks he's comfortably better than what we have there at the moment, though. The Millwall thing concerned me originally as well, but it's promising to note that he spent 3 years at Brentford, during which he was player of the year and captain during their promotion season of 2013/14. I'm in two minds. I quite like what we have at left back already but if DC thinks he can improve us then maybe he can - he will have seen him close up in both games he played against us last season.

Fair point 2nd May. I feel like that too. I have a lot of trust in DC. I'm not saying he will be a bad signing, it's interesting to discuss both sides of the coin at times.

Totally agree, and another nagging doubt is that there s a history of managers not fancying him in the Championship. Is that down to a lack of pace? He clearly is a strong character though, and there is possibly a value to his transfer that is over and above the contribution he makes on the pitch. I would have thought he, funnily enough, would be potentially a loan signing with a view to a permanent rather than putting all our eggs in one basket with him as he will doubtless be one of our top earners.

As someone said on here before he’s more likely looked at squad player with a season or 2 left in him and offered defence coach role after....

If he was coming to be a squad player then he could stay at Millwall and do that and with his legendary status there I bet he’d have a back room job at the end. Might be wrong but I think D.C. will be looking for players straight into the team. UTG!

Are all players boyhood fans of the team they play for ? if course not No they aren't but Millwall is his. I think so ~ He's a pro so why wouldn't he ?

Think he would be a very shrewd signing. Defensively we have been really poor this season, even on Saturday we could have conceded 3 easily. We need a bit of know how in defence. Him and a sneaky loan deal for Michael Smith at RB would be perfect.

Millwall fans on twitter made a few comments that are a little worrying.
"Has been a good servant but just not good enough for the Championship."
"Always gave 100% but lost what pace he had. We need better."
"He's a left back. He has played centre back but I wouldn't if I were you LOL."
These are basically my fears confirmed. Craig was never the quickest and if he's lost a yard of pace - which is only to be expected as he turns 33 in a few weeks - then he might struggle art left back.
Even more worrying is that they don't seem to rate him as a centre back and I thought that was the position DC said he wanted to stengthen.
If he does sign I hope I'm proved wrong but I don't see Craig improving our starting 11. Good experienced backup but does he really want to leave Millwall to sit on the bench at Rovers?

Not sure if anyone is slating him as a player but there are concerns about his age, height, never having lived or played outside London, having 3 players fighting for left back slot and possibly restricting game time for younger central defenders. It would be a very short term approach unless there was a coaching role for him in the pipeline but would allow us play 3 at the back as a formation option.

From what I read about him he seems exactly the sort of person who wouldn't lose motivation. We have reasonabe enough defenders but we don't have a reasonable defence. We need leaders and I think he'll fit the bill.

Possibly, but let's be honest he isn't being selected at a level above us. That certainly doesn't mean he can't cut it with us. Don't suppose we'll really know until he's played a few times. I think he could be just what we are looking for though.
