Posted by HarryBuckle on the other place :-
"I was at the AGM. It was quoted that the London office which costs over £250k per year to run has two staff and its for the benefit of the family for meetings etc plus they said most premier clubs have a London office to which one shareholder reminded the top table we are not a premier league club !
The cost of under 23 players wages etc are not included in the fair play agreement for DC's playing budget.
The mem pitch problems attributed to former groundsman being away with prostrate problems and work on pitch started before new groundsman appointed. They apparently used two different types of sand which appears to be the reason for the poor quality. The dispute continues with the contractor to resolve.
Training ground plans being submitted within 8/9 weeks but when asked what it included Mike Turner refused to divulge as it needed to be confidential until planning submitted. It would be phased and the first team will benefit by its use first.
When the mounting debt was queried as a worry for shareholders Wael conceded it was covered by DS and would never be a problem. He confirmed he was after two years still committed to progressing the club.
DC when asked about current progress he did admit he wished he still had Taylor and Bodin in his current side and they would have got us into the play offs for sure. He did say many fans wanted Ellis gone three years ago but he has finally improved and was now under contract until end of next season. He wont offer anyone three year deals. But he said fans would soon get fed up with continued league one status and he would be a sitting duck.
I did ask why after coming so close to a new stadium at UWE we then walked away. The Chairman said deadlines were given to UWE and their trustees failed to meet them so it was best the club walked away. Then someone said So why did UWE say the following morning they could not understand Rovers pulling out which the board said was rather puzzling. It was asked if the UWE proposal could be looked at again but Wael said no it could not.
DC said he was not looking to loan premier players in future as they had not worked out and would instead use our own development players if they were good enough which he considered fans wanted. "

What I find frustrating is this, didn't Wael say when UWE fell through that we were gonna redevelop the Mem or did I dream it? Now it looks like it may not be the case, fine, but all these mixed messages are not helping PR. DC calls a spade a spade but the BOD haven't decided yet what to call it, will they ever?

Sorry for being online at the time. Troll you? Maybe if you didn’t do the cryptic fishing or backtrack when challenged, you wouldn’t get pulled up so much. As for us being saved, we are an average football club in a poor stadium. I have reached acceptance. Doesn’t mean I don’t care or don’t want us to be better, but not sure what else I can do about it. The Al-Qadi’s say they are here for the long term and all I can do is believe them and there are many other things in my life that bother me or have more importance in my life than BRFC do or ever did I mean I am astounded/rocked and dumbfounded by the latest revelation that Dwane Sports have allegedly been told to invest big or sell up? This would never have crossed my mind Seeing how quiet the other forum is during and after the AGM I think a lot of supporters who have questioned in the past have reached “acceptance”. Maybe it’s not such a bad place to be. The thing is, if you think back to the events of 2006 , Football has changed so much in those 11/12 years. The money in football is now even more insane. Short of someone with more money than sense coming in and bankrolling the club, ‘we’ have to work with what we have, or dream of mythical consortiums who may or may not be any better I may have issues with the old board and the way they went about things, Nick Higgs endlessly chasing a dream he could never meet, but they financed the club to the point they could no longer whatever their mistakes and for that they deserve some respect, even if I, or no one else didn’t always show it Maybe we are destined to be a 3rd division club or worse forever, but I don’t know what I am supposed to ‘DEMAND’ anymore. All I ever wanted was for us to be a better run football club and I don’t know how that fits/works now in the crazy world of football finance

What do you think they will do, invest big time or sell up? Why does it have to be either of those? No middle ground for you? HtE, i don't believe there is middle ground. The owners can keep saying the mantra of Evolution not Revolution, granted they have brought in staff, an academy side, new pies etc... but either they have to spend the money (10s of Millions) to move us into the present day or they might as well let someone else have a go - admittedly i doubt there is a queue of people looking to buy us. I have calmed down in my emotions on the subject over the past hour. Building a Training will cost a few million and building a 20k+ seater, modern football stadium which will allow us to fulfill our potential will cost considerably more. It is not my money being spent, it is not my money to spend, i wish i did have the money to build a stadium. If we see plans for training ground soon, brilliant, hopefully it goes through without anyone kicking off that that is where they let their dog take a dump on a Sunday morning currently.

Hi No, I am in the USA where it is middle of the night here. I am convinced that due to the negativity by so many who claim to be supporters, there will be nothing of consequence announced until there is a deal advanced enough to be made public. Be that the Mem, a new stadium, or anything else. I support the BOD fully, and understand why they are staying silent. After all although you may be loyal customers of Asda or Tesco - do they tell you what is happening behind the scenes - no! And we should expect nothing different - especially after all the rubbish thrown at the BOD by some. A very telling comment that we are now viewed as customers and not fans. Guess on those lines we should all up sticks and follow whatever club is offering the best value eh? What a sad outlook that is but very unsurprising from you. Precisely, hate this analogy when it's brought up as, apart from anything else, it's false. Football clubs, especially clubs like Rovers who are not at the very top, have an very different model that depends entirely on the goodwill of the fans, over and above issues of value (to a point).

There is always a middle ground. Build the training ground. Develop our own players. Continue to maximize income from current unsuitable ground. Explore moving or slowly redeveloping the current site. We are already doing the first 3 things on that list. We don't have to go from the Mem to shiney new stadium in 2 years.

Would you rather have a well run club that treats it supporters like customers or a poorly run club that endeavours to please and inform it's fanbase? Personally I think the Al Qadi's are somewhere in the middle when it comes to treating it's supporters and to me that's ok. We aren't taken for granted, communication is ok but at the same time the owners still protect the club's interests and leave the supporters out of the loop when it isn't necessary for them to be in it. This might come as a shock to some who are used to fan's owning the club but honestly I think it is the way forward.

What we were doing certainly wasn't working, so if nothing else it's at least an attempt to break away from a failing model.

We will be lucky if we are in a new stadium in another 10 years.. I just think we're lucky we've still got a club. With all the respect in the world, that is the least ambitious thing i've read all day. We probably wont be a football club, with the mounting debts in 10 years if we are still playing at the Mem. 3-5 years would be how long i would like to to think it could take.

Can someone start making some excellent excuses for all the delays with the training ground build and Mem redevelopment plans please ? I'm going off for a yearly sabbatical ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) ! perhaps something consequential might happen when I come back.
